Chapter Five — Water Play

Tāṃ tu kācit kare dhṛtvā cānītā Rāghavāntike,
Lajjayādho-mukhī bhūtvā nimajjati jale ’male. (16)

Another companion took the embarrassed woman by the hand and brought her near Raghava. Overcome with modesty, she lowered her face and submerged herself in the clear water.

Cibuke dvāṅguliṃ dattvā gaṇḍaṃ gaṇḍe niyujya tāḥ,
Yathā kamala-vakrānte cañcarīkāś cucumbire. (17)

They placed two fingers beneath the chin, pressed cheek to cheek, and kissed like bees settling upon the curved petals of a lotus.

Susnātā vāribhiḥ klinnā nīrahā vivṛtānatā,
Rukmāṅgī sūkṣma-vasanā nagnā magnā jale punaḥ. (18)

One golden-limbed woman had bathed completely; her fine garment, drenched and clinging, left her form almost uncovered. Ashamed at appearing naked, she quickly sank beneath the water once more.

Evaṃ nānāvidhānena krīḍayitvā punaḥ punaḥ,
Uttasthau tīram atulaṃ tābhiḥ saha vilāsa-kṛt. (19)

After sporting with them again and again in many different ways, the master of loving play emerged with the companions upon the incomparable riverbank.
