Chapter Two — Play in the Madhavi Forest
Pakṣi-saṃghaiś ca ninadair nāditaṃ paramādbhutam,
Madana-unmādana-karaṃ śrīmad-ūrjita-suprabham. (17)
The supremely wondrous grove resounded with many calls from flocks of birds. It awakened love’s ecstasy and shone with abundant, magnificent splendour.
Parasparaṃ bhāṣayantau keli-kautūhala-anvitau,
Tatra prema-rasāveśau viharantau su-dampatī. (18)
Conversing together, eager for the delights of play, the beautiful Husband and Wife wandered there immersed in the rasa of love.
Mahad vanaṃ samāyātau sarvābharaṇa-bhūṣitau,
Karpūra-pakva-tāmbūla-carvaṇād abhirājitau. (19)
Adorned with every ornament, the Couple entered the vast forest. Chewing prepared betel scented with camphor, they shone in beauty. With limbs adorned in every way and surrounded by flowering kadamba and other trees, they moved within the great grove.
