Chapter Two — The Divine Madhavi Forest
Yatra bhūḥ kāñcanī divyā khacitā maṇi-mālakaiḥ,
Nānā-vedī-dīpyamānā maṇi-kuṭṭima-śālinī. (12)
There the divine golden earth was inlaid with many jewelled garlands, bright with numerous altars and paved in many-colored powdered gems.
Mayūra-kīra-kalanaiḥ maṇḍitā madhura-svaraiḥ,
Sakhīnāṃ gana-gāmbhīrya-saundarya-paripūrikā. (13)
Sweet cries of peacocks and parrots adorned the ground, whose beauty was completed by the profound splendour of the hosts of companions.
Sukhāstaraṇa-vistīrṇā paryaṅka-rūpa-śobhitā,
Tatra Rāmo mahā-bāhū ramate ramatāṃ varaḥ. (14)
Spread with pleasant coverings and graced by couch-like seats, that land became the playground of long-armed Rama, foremost of all lovers.
Tataḥ prāpto vanaṃ divyaṃ Mādhavī-mañju-maṇḍitam,
Nānā-maṇi-gaṇākīrṇaṃ vistṛtaṃ paramāsanaiḥ. (15)
He next reached the divine Madhavi forest, beautifully adorned and spacious, filled with hosts of jewels and supreme seats.
Mattāli-mālā-saṃjuṣṭaṃ kuñja-puñjaiḥ suveṣṭitam,
Mahāhlāda-karaṃ kāntaṃ kāntā-cittāpahārakam. (16)
Garlands of intoxicated bees and clusters of bowers surrounded it. Lovely and increasing supreme delight, it stole the hearts of lovers.
