Supplement — Śrī Hanumān Cālīsā, Continued

Loving the play of being, consciousness, and bliss, you are supremely detached from every worldly splendour.
Your essential self clings to Sita’s feet and regards every living soul as a portion of her portion.

You assumed a monkey body for Rama’s work, finding supreme joy in the servant’s disposition.
Holding the forms of Sita and her Beloved within your heart, you accomplish every undertaking.

Your intelligence, strength, and radiance are immeasurable; you are the star of Kesari and Anjani’s eyes.
You crossed the ocean, burned Lanka, and brought back news of Janaka’s daughter.

You take no pride in strength or heroism; your only pride is Rama’s grace.
Lest even that sacred pride be forgotten, you meditate eternally upon Sita and her Beloved.

You honour the Vedas and Agamas as dearly as your own breath and always proclaim Sita-Rama in manifest divine form.
The four states and the three divisions of time cannot be understood without Hanuman’s grace.

When Hanuman’s grace becomes complete, the heart directly experiences the loving play of Sita and her Beloved.
Birth and action are then known as divine, and the soul beholds its bliss-giving divine form.

Whoever beholds such a soul is liberated while living and forever receives happiness.
Such is supremely generous Hanuman, abode of happiness and free from every demand for honour.

Supremely merciful and gracious Hanuman, for what reason have you forgotten me, O joyful one?
Refuge, refuge—I now cry only for refuge. Forget every virtue and fault of mine.

Vasudeva joins his hands and says: Hanuman, hear this prayer of mine.
Let material desire taste like poison; by your grace may love for Sita’s feet arise.

Let me cast away the world as one rejects vomit, holding always within my heart the form of Sita and her Beloved.
Your grace alone is my support; I have left aside every confidence in ritual means, repetition, austerity, and yoga.

Closing couplets

1. In the sky of the heart, upon the ground of devotion, Sita and her Beloved perform their loving play. The grace of the primal guru Hanuman is a beautiful, joy-giving garland for the heart.

2. Whoever holds Hanuman’s grace in the heart and recites this Cālīsā finds the lovely and excellent form of service sleeping peacefully within the heart.

3. Vasudeva desires this alone; let every other desire burn away. By the grace of the guru, may unwavering devotion to the feet of Sita and Rama become firm.
