Supplement — Śrī Hanumān Cālīsā

Homage to Hanuman.

Opening couplet

Victory, victory, victory to mighty Hanuman, rasika of Sita and Rama—son of Anjani and the Wind, treasury of mercy and compassion.

Forty verses

Victory to gracious Hanuman, sustained by the compassionate glance of Sita’s Beloved.
Embodied form of that gracious glance, remove the fear of becoming from those who bow to you.

Supremely detached amid the realm of sovereignty, you are deeply enamoured of the sweetness of the Divine Couple.
Without your grace no one enters Avadh, even after making millions of efforts.

Sanaka, Brahma, and the sovereign sages remain immersed day and night in the truth of Brahman.
Taking Hanuman as their guru, they came to know something of the mystery of Sita and Rama.

Receiving your grace, they recovered their true form and fixed the heart upon service to Sita and her Beloved.
Moment after moment they looked into the hearts of the Divine Couple, and the mind ceased wandering in the world.

Liberated while living, they attained unobstructed movement and sang the Couple’s virtues throughout the three worlds.
Whoever meditates upon such a Hanuman becomes liberated even in this life.

The person upon whom your grace descends is bound within the cord of grace.
The moment you make one’s relationship with Rama firm, the ruin accumulated over many births is repaired.

You burn the Lanka of bodily pride and reveal the soul’s true nature as a portion belonging to Sita.
Worldly splendour then inspires fear, while love for Sita’s feet awakens.

Waking and sleeping, such a soul sings Sita’s virtues and offers mind, intellect, and consciousness to Rama.
Recognizing the grace of both within the heart, one delights forever in the paired lotus feet.

The supreme goal of human life is the spontaneous arising of devotion to Sita and her Beloved.
Knowing me fallen and unworthy, show compassion and accept me as your servant.

Sita and her Beloved sport within the heart; may the generous soul behold them with the inward eyes of the mind.
Assuming three forms for their service, Charushila bestows joy through her grace.

The changes of birth and death are cut away, and both sides remain beyond all blame.
Beyond every worldly splendour stands Sita-Rama, the pure abode of being, consciousness, bliss, and happiness.
