Chapter Six — The Attained Nature and the Means of Attainment

The soul’s true purpose is service to the chosen Lord. Fully capable of every duty of service, the soul is a dependent portion of the two-armed Lord and must understand its own inner form as inspired and governed by him. (41, completed)

Sarva-bhūta-dayā caiva sarvatra sama-darśanam,
Anyatrānindanaṃ caiva sveśe snehādhikaṃ tathā. (42)

The soul’s attained nature is marked by ever-increasing affection, love, intimacy, and attachment toward its own Lord, Sita and Rama; compassion toward every living being; equal vision everywhere; and refusal to condemn others.

Gurāv īśvara-buddhiś ca tad-ājñā-paripālanam,
Sveśasya taj-janānāṃ ca sevanaṃ māyayā vinā. (43)

One must behold the Lord within the guru, obey the guru’s command completely, abandon deceit, self-interest, possessiveness, and maya, and lovingly serve both one’s Lord Sita-Rama and their devotees.

The commentator adds: “The true servant acts for the Master’s welfare, even if millions should find fault with him.”

Prabhoḥ kṛpāvalambitvaṃ bhoktavyaṃ tat-samarpitam,
Sac-chāstreṣu ca viśvāsaḥ prāpty-upāyam ihocyate. (44, continues)

The means of attainment is to depend upon the Lord’s grace, partake only of what has first been offered to him, and place one’s faith in true scriptures.
