श्रीराम उवाच— अथान्यदपि वक्ष्यामि माहात्म्यमिह सम्भवम्। चैत्रे जन्मोत्सवं कुर्याद्विधिना मम यः सदा॥१॥
Śrī Rāma said: Now I shall tell another glory that arises here. Whoever regularly celebrates my birth festival in Caitra according to the prescribed rite—
Passage 2
नित्यं प्राप्नोति मत्पित्रोः प्रेमानन्दं स मानुषः। वैशाखे मासि यः कुर्याच्चन्दनैश्चार्चनं मम॥२॥
that person continually receives the loving joy of my parents. Whoever worships me with sandal paste in the month of Vaiśākha—
Passage 3
स लभेद्भवसन्तापशान्तिं नैवात्र संशयः। ज्येष्ठे मासि च यः कुर्याच्चन्दनागुरुमिश्रितैः॥३॥
obtains relief from the anguish of worldly existence; of this there is no doubt. And whoever in the month of Jyeṣṭha, with mixtures of sandal and aloe—
Passage 4
जलयन्त्रोद्भवैस्तोयैर्ज्योत्स्नाभिर्मम तोषणम्। विषयेषु वितृष्णत्वं स लभेन्नियतं नरः॥४॥
pleases me with water issuing from fountains and with moonlight, that person assuredly becomes free of thirst for sense objects.
Passage 5
आषाढे मासि यः कुर्याच्छीतलान् व्यजनानिलान्। भवतापोद्भवा बाधा तस्य नो जायते क्वचित्॥५॥
Whoever in the month of Āṣāḍha offers the cool breeze of fans is never afflicted by suffering born of the heat of worldly existence.
Passage 6
श्रावणे मासि कुर्वीत हिन्दोलैः परिदोलनम्। वामे श्रीसहजानन्दायुक्तस्य मम सर्वदा॥६॥
In the month of Śrāvaṇa one should continually swing me upon swings, with Śrī Sahajānandā beside me on my left.
Passage 7
विचित्रवस्त्राभरणैः पवित्रारोपणैस्तथा। शाद्वले हरिते कुञ्जे हरिद्रुहमञ्जुले॥७॥
One should serve with varied garments and ornaments and with the placing of sacred threads, in a grassy green bower lovely with green trees.
Passage 8
इन्द्रगोपौघयुक्तायां भुवि वर्षति वारिदे। तस्याहं सर्वदा तुष्टः प्रयच्छामि परां मुदम्॥८॥
When the cloud rains and the ground is covered with swarms of indragopa insects, I remain ever pleased with that worshipper and grant supreme joy.
Passage 9
भाद्रे मासि च यः कुर्यात्प्रमोदविपिनस्य मे। वनैर्द्वादशभिः साकं यात्रां चैव प्रदक्षिणाम्॥९॥
Whoever in the month of Bhādra makes pilgrimage to and circumambulates my Pramoda forest together with its twelve woods—
Passage 10
तस्य किं नु फलं वाच्यमश्वमेधसहस्रकैः। वाजपेयमखैर्लक्षैः सोमकोटिभिरेव च॥१०॥
how could that person's reward be put into words? A thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices, a hundred thousand Vājapeya rites, and ten million Soma rites—
Passage 11
न पुण्यं समतां याति जलस्थानावगाहनात्। आश्विने शुक्लपक्षे तु दशम्यां विजयोत्सवम्॥११॥
do not equal the merit gained by immersion at that sacred water place. In the bright fortnight of Āśvina, on the tenth lunar day, one should celebrate the Festival of Victory.
Passage 12
यः कुर्यात्तु विधानेन स लभेद्विजयं भुवि। रामपूजनवेलायां रथारूढं तु मां स्मरेत्॥१२॥
Whoever performs it according to rule obtains victory upon earth. At the time of Rāma's worship one should remember me mounted upon a chariot.
Passage 13
स्वस्तिवाचनमन्त्राद्यैर्जयघोषैश्च भूरिशः। प्रस्थापयेन्मां महत्या वेष्टितं कपिसेनया॥१३॥
With benedictory recitations and mantras, and with abundant cries of victory, one should send me forth surrounded by the great monkey army.
Passage 14
भक्तेः प्रतिकृतिं कुर्यात् सर्वामन्यूनभावतः। कृत्वा च गोमयैर्लङ्कां ध्वंसयेद्गजवाजिभिः॥१४॥
One should make a complete representation of devotion, omitting nothing in spirit. Having fashioned Laṅkā from cow dung, one should demolish it with elephants and horses.
Passage 15
संस्कुर्याच्च ध्वजपटानुत्तुङ्गास्तरणादिभिः। इदं कृत्यं महोपानामावश्यकमुदाहृतम्॥१५॥
One should also adorn the banners with lofty hangings and the like. This rite is declared essential for great observances.
Passage 16
कार्तिके दीपमालाभिरन्नकूटोत्सवेन वा। कृत्वा मत्तोषणं मर्त्यः कोटियज्ञफलं लभेत्॥१६॥
In Kārttika, by pleasing me with rows of lamps or with the Annakūṭa festival, a mortal obtains the fruit of ten million sacrifices.
Passage 17
नित्यं रासविलासाद्यं रमयेच्चन्द्रिकामये। देवोत्थानविधानेन तत उत्थापयेच्च माम्॥१७॥
One should continually delight me with rāsa play and other sports in a moonlit setting, and then awaken me according to the Devotthāna rite.
Passage 18
कृत्वैवं शारदीं पूजां मत्प्रेम लभते नरः। हेमन्ते शिशिरे चैव तूलवस्त्रैर्विशेषतः॥१८॥
Having performed autumn worship in this way, a person obtains love for me. In Hemanta and Śiśira, especially with cotton garments—
Passage 19
गर्भालयसमावेशैर्हसन्तीभिश्च भूरिशः। उष्णोदकैः कृष्णभोज्यैर्नानाभोगविधानतः॥१९॥
by bringing me into an inner chamber, with many portable braziers, with warm water, with foods called kṛṣṇabhojya, and through arrangements of manifold enjoyments—
Passage 20
कालागुरुप्रधूपैश्च ताम्बूलीवीटिकार्पणैः। सेवते मां सदा भक्त्या तस्य पुण्यं न गण्यते॥२०॥
and with incense of black aloe and offerings of prepared betel rolls, whoever always serves me devotedly gains merit beyond calculation.
Passage 21
अथ प्राप्ते वसन्ते च वसन्तोत्सवरीतिभिः। सेवयेन्मां सदा भक्त्या दोलादिपरिदोलनैः॥२१॥
Then, when spring arrives, one should always serve me devotedly according to the customs of the spring festival, swinging me upon swings and in other ways.
Passage 22
एष वो विधिरुद्दिष्ट ऋतुसेवनपूर्वकम्। अनेन विधिना नित्यं तोषयेन्मां समाहितः॥२२॥
This rite, together with seasonal service, has been taught to you. With collected attention one should always please me by this procedure.
