Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— एवं समाहितो भ्राता रामेण प्रभुणा स्वयम्। लीलातिरोधानभवं संक्लेशं विरहात्मकम्। मुमोच लक्ष्मणः सद्यो बहुधा सम्प्रबोधितः॥१॥
Brahmā said: Thus steadied by Lord Rāma himself and instructed in many ways, Lakṣmaṇa at once released the anguish of separation born from the withdrawal of līlā.
Passage 2
सहजानन्दिनीं शक्तिं ज्ञात्वास्य परमात्मनः। सर्वां लीलां नित्यतया मन्यमानः सुनिर्भयः॥२॥
Knowing Sahajānandinī to be the power of this Supreme Self and regarding the whole līlā as eternal, he became entirely fearless.
Passage 3
तदिच्छामात्रतश्चास्यास्तिरोभावं विदन्नभूत्। सर्वत्र विगताशङ्कुस्तदेकाश्रयतत्परः॥३॥
Understanding that its withdrawal occurs solely through Rāma's will, he became free from doubt everywhere and wholly intent upon that one refuge.
Passage 4
लक्ष्मण उवाच— सत्यं तव परा लीला कालमायातिगा प्रभो। सेवास्ति जीवनं नाथ भक्तानां प्रेमचेतसाम्॥४॥
Lakṣmaṇa said: Truly, Lord, your supreme līlā transcends time and māyā. Service is the very life of devotees whose hearts are filled with love.
Passage 5
गतं विरहकातर्यं त्वत्स्वरूपप्रबोधनात्। नित्यमेव भवत्सङ्गे रमयामि च राघव॥५॥
Through your revelation of your true nature, the tormenting fear of separation has departed. Rāghava, I shall delight forever in your company.
Passage 6
एकान्तिनो वयं दासा भवत्सङ्गे रमामहे। नित्यानन्दसुखे मग्ना निर्भयाः स्म प्रभो सदा॥६॥
We are your single-hearted servants and delight in your company. Immersed in the happiness of eternal bliss, Lord, we are forever without fear.
Passage 7
लीलापरिकरैः साकं सदैव रमसेऽनिशम्। विशिष्टमेव रूपं ते प्रमुद्वनमहीतले॥७॥
You sport ceaselessly and forever with the līlā retinue. Your distinctive form remains upon the sacred ground of Pramudvana. Source note: The photographed root prints प्रमुद्वन in passage 7. The form is preserved rather than silently regularized to the more frequent प्रमोदवन.
Passage 8
इत्युक्त्वा लक्ष्मणो रामं सरयूतीरमाश्रितः। निजप्रासादवर्ये स रेमे परमनिर्वृतः॥८॥
Having spoken thus to Rāma on the bank of the Sarayū, Lakṣmaṇa returned to his excellent palace and rested there in supreme contentment.
Passage 9
आमन्त्र्य रामं भ्रातरं स्वपुरं समगात्ततः। सुवर्णरत्नप्रासादप्रभाद्योतितदिक्तटम्॥९॥
Taking leave of his brother Rāma, he went to his own city, whose horizons were illuminated by the brilliance of palaces made of gold and jewels.
Passage 10
अनेकवापिकावारिफुल्लेन्दीवरपङ्कजम्। गुञ्जद्भ्रमरसंदोहसम्बद्धकुसुमाकरम्॥१०॥
Its many pools were filled with blossoming blue and red lotuses, and its flower gardens were joined with swarms of humming bees.
Passage 11
अनेकवाटिकावृन्दविकासिबहुभूरुहम्। अनेकलक्ष्मीप्रसरं गायत्किन्नरसुन्दरम्॥११॥
Multitudes of gardens flourished there with many trees; streams of manifold splendor spread everywhere, while beautiful kinnaras sang.
Passage 12
गन्धर्वललनागीतगम्भीरध्वनिमञ्जुलम्। चलत्कुरङ्गनयनामञ्जीरध्वनिनादितम्॥१२॥
It was lovely with the deep sound of songs by gandharva maidens and resonant with the anklets of women whose moving eyes resembled deer.
Passage 13
नर्तकीनृत्यवलितं विलासशतसंकुलम्। ऊर्मिलाभोगललितं कोकिलाकुलनादितम्॥१३॥
It was encircled by dancers and filled with hundreds of graceful pleasures, made charming by life with Ūrmilā, and ringing with the calls of hosts of cuckoos.
Passage 14
विचित्रचित्ररचनारमणीयकसंयुतम्। त्रैलोक्यलक्ष्मीशोभाढ्यं बहुसम्पद्विराजितम्॥१४॥
It possessed the beauty of wondrous paintings and designs, abounded in the splendor of all three worlds, and shone with immense wealth.
Passage 15
सारिकावदनोत्थेन रामनाम्ना निनादितम्। स्थले स्थले क्वणद्वीणासम्बद्धरामनामकम्॥१५॥
The Name of Rāma arose from the beaks of sārikā birds, while at every place sounding vīṇās accompanied that same divine Name.
Passage 16
रत्नप्रासादकिरणप्रकाशितदिगन्तरम्। मणिकुट्टिमसंक्रान्तलक्ष्मणप्रतिमाकुलम्॥१६॥
Rays from jeweled palaces lit the distant quarters, and gem-studded floors were filled with reflected images of Lakṣmaṇa.
Passage 17
नित्यवसन्तसदनं नित्यवर्षासुखप्रदम्। आरामनृत्यत्रमदमयूरगणसंकुलम्॥१७॥
It was the dwelling of perpetual spring and always offered the delight of the rains; its gardens were crowded with companies of intoxicated dancing peacocks. Source note: The second half is densely printed as आरामनृत्यत्रमदमयूरगणसंकुलम्. The English follows its unambiguous garden and dancing-peacock imagery without conjecturally rewriting the compound.
Passage 18
लक्ष्मणः स्वपुरं गत्वा विरेजे रामसेवकः। यथा भोगवतीमध्ये वासुकिर्नाम सर्पराट्॥१८॥
Returning to his own city, Lakṣmaṇa shone as Rāma's servant, like the serpent-king Vāsuki in the midst of Bhogavatī.
Passage 19
तत्र श्रीरामसहितो रेमे भोगैरनेककैः॥१९॥
There he delighted together with Śrī Rāma amid many enjoyments. Structural note: The primary witness prints passage 19 as this single numbered line. It is preserved as an independent unit rather than merged with either neighboring passage.
Passage 20
लीलामहारसालं तं भावयानः प्रतिक्षणम्। किञ्चित्समुद्विग्नमना रामसान्निध्यनिर्वृतः॥२०॥
At every moment he contemplated that great treasury of līlā-rasa. Though a little concern still stirred his mind, he remained content in Rāma's presence.
