Global chapter 485 of 51433 passagesSource PDF pages 340351
Chapter context and opening material

Source: Volume 3, physical PDF pages 340–342 and 351 (printed pages 327–330). Physical pages 343–350 repeat physical pages 335–342 (printed pages 322–329) and are excluded; the chapter's terminal printed page resumes at physical page 351. Structure: Thirty-three continuously numbered Sanskrit passages. Summary: Ātreya asks Rāma for the divine eye by which his supreme form can be seen. Rāma grants it, and the sage beholds within him the earth, worlds, gods, cosmic Person, devouring Time, Virajā, the fourteen worlds, Akṣara Brahman, and innumerable incarnations. Beyond these he sees Rāma with Sahajānandinī in Pramodavana: the divine pair amid their companions, rasa dance, sacred groves, river, pools, and eternal līlā retinue. The vision resolves the cosmic and intimate forms as the fullness of the one Rāma.

Passage 1

Ātreya said: Grant me, Rāma, the supreme eye made of divine knowledge, which beholds your essential form alone. Bestow it by your grace, Puruṣottama.

Passage 2

Know me as surrendered at your feet, Rāghava. Lord of Ramā, enable me to behold you fully.

Passage 3

No one other than you can reveal your own essential form. Terrified by the dreadful ocean of becoming, I have therefore sought refuge in you.

Passage 4

Without refuge in you, the irresistible force of Time destroys a person. Therefore protect me and make me imperishable. Source note: The edition tightly prints the final imperative expression as निर्जिकीकरम्. Its governing plea is clear—Ātreya asks Rāma to save him from Time and bring him beyond decay—so the visible reading is retained without conjectural replacement.

Passage 5
