Chapter context and opening material

Source: Volume 3, physical PDF pages 189–192 (printed pages 175–178). Structure: Thirty-eight continuously numbered Sanskrit verses. Verses 1–6 describe Sahajā's advent in Nandana and Rājinī's home; verses 7–18 portray auspicious changes and the cowherd community's celebration; verses 19–28 preserve hymns by Brahmā, Vāṇī, and Mahādeva; and verses 29–38 conclude the divine celebration, naming rite, childhood growth, and the gods' return. Summary: In the Sārasvata age, Vivasvān and Prabhā became the cowherd Nandana and Rājinī. Sahajā, ocean of beauty, sweetness, and virtue, appeared in their home with sixteen companions. The earth, waters, fire, wind, devotees' minds, cows, cowherds, and gopīs all became auspicious, while Lakṣmī moved among the festival offerings. Brahmā, Vāṇī, Mahādeva, Viṣṇu, and other gods came in feminine dress and praised her as Rāma's rasa-formed beloved, the sovereign of the rāsa-play, and the easily attained mistress of Pramodavana. On the thirteenth day, Brahmā and the yogic sages held her naming rite: she is Rāmā because she delights Rāma and Sahajā because she appeared together with divine radiance. She grew naturally in beauty and eternal līlā, delighting trees, birds, and animals with her companions. Sahajā Appears in Nandana's Home
