Chapter context and opening material

Source: Volume 3, physical PDF pages 165–169 (printed pages 151–155). Structure: 67 continuously numbered Sanskrit verses: Padmagiri's daughter grows into divine youth; Nārada identifies Rāma as her destined bridegroom; Rāma visits Sarayū's bank; the maiden reveals her former birth; Rāma promises her a place in Pramoda forest and the rāsa; and they marry by the Gandharva rite. Summary: Reborn as Padmagiri's daughter, Sarayū matures with beauty in which the eight yogic powers symbolically appear. Her father worries that no worthy husband exists, but Nārada prophesies that Daśaratha's son Rāma will marry her and carries the message to Ayodhyā. Rāma later sees the maiden alone on Sarayū's bank. She recalls her former life as Vasiṣṭha's daughter and asks him to accept her. Rāma recognizes her, promises that she will join his eternal rāsa in Pramoda forest, and accepts her garland in a Gandharva marriage. Padmagiri's Daughter Comes of Age
