The Manifestation of Ayodhyā and the Descent of Sarayū

Global chapter 438 of 514165 passagesSource PDF pages 149160
Chapter context and opening material

Source: Volume 3, physical PDF pages 149–160 (printed pages 135–146). Structure: 165 continuously numbered Sanskrit verses: Manu resumes creation; Brahmā foretells the solar dynasty; Rāma manifests Ayodhyā from his lotus; Manu appoints Vasiṣṭha as priest; Vasiṣṭha brings the eternal Sarayū to Ayodhyā; and Manu and the citizens receive and praise her. Summary: Vivasvān completes the instruction he received from Rāma, and Manu undertakes creation without grief. Brahmā establishes him in Ayodhyā and foretells Ikṣvāku's line and Rāma's advent. Rāma then manifests Ayodhyā from the lotus in his hand, revealing it as the earthly appearance of his eternal realm. Manu appoints Vasiṣṭha as dynastic priest and asks him to bring a sacred river to the city. Vasiṣṭha performs severe austerity; Rāma directs Sarayū—the liquid form of divine love—to follow him. After defining the limits of Yama's jurisdiction, Rāma sends her to Ayodhyā, where Manu and the citizens welcome her as the city's eternal, liberating river. Manu Resumes Creation
