Global chapter 433 of 51434 passagesSource PDF pages 133136
Chapter context and opening material

Source: Volume 3, physical PDF pages 133–136 (printed pages 119–122). Structure: 34 continuously numbered Sanskrit verses: Janaka's narration, Śiva's concluding instruction in the guise of a Brāhmaṇa, Vivasvān's appeal, and Manu's reply. Summary: Śiva's teaching makes Vaivasvata Manu immediately dispassionate. The disguised Brāhmaṇa tells him to carry revelation through reflection and deep contemplation to direct realization of Brahman, blesses him to become liberated, and departs for the Himalaya. When Manu ceases creating and the world begins to diminish, his father Vivasvān reminds him that all the gods execute Hari's command and that creation unfolds from divine speech. Manu answers that one must urgently raise oneself when dispassion arises, identifies Hari himself as the guru who appears through grace, and resolves to follow the mysterious Brāhmaṇa to the Himalaya.
