Passage 1
श्रीशुक उवाच— साब्रवीज्जातमात्रैव भूमानं पुरुषं ततः। रामप्रेमोद्गमोद्भूतरोमाञ्चव्याप्तविग्रहम्॥१॥
Śrī Śuka said: “As soon as she was born, she addressed the mighty Puruṣa, whose body was covered in horripilation arising from the surge of Rāma-prema.
Passage 2
सरयूरुवाच— किं नु कुर्यां हे भूमन् किं च मे नाम निश्चितम्। भवत्पार्श्वेऽथवान्यत्र कुत्र मेऽवस्थितिर्भवेत्॥२॥
The Sarayū said: “Mighty Lord, what shall I do? What name has been fixed for me? Shall I remain beside you, or where else will my abode be?”
Passage 3
पुरुष उवाच— रामप्रेमोद्भवानन्दात्सुस्रुवुर्नेत्राणि नः पृथक्। तदुत्थवाष्पवारिभ्यः सम्भूता त्वं तरङ्गिणी॥३॥
The Puruṣa said: “From the bliss born of Rāma-prema, each of our eyes streamed. From the water of those rising tears you came forth as a river.
Passage 4
सरयूरिति ते नाम तस्मान्निश्चितमेव मे। नयनोत्थैर्जलैर्जाता तस्मान्नेत्रजलेति च॥४॥
Therefore I have firmly established your name as Sarayū. Since you were born from water arising in the eyes, you are also called Netrājalā, Eye-Water.
Passage 5
वसिष्ठश्च भवत्तीरे तपसा सिद्धिमेष्यति। वासिष्ठीति भुवि ख्यातं तव नाम भविष्यति॥५॥
Vasiṣṭha will attain perfection through austerity upon your bank; therefore your name Vāsiṣṭhī will become renowned on earth.
Passage 6
साकेतनगरे गत्वा रामस्य सुखवर्धिनी। रामगङ्गेति ते नाम भुवि ख्यातं भविष्यति॥६॥
Entering the city of Sāketa, you will increase Rāma's joy, and your name Rāma-Gaṅgā will become renowned on earth.
Passage 7
पूर्वं तु तमसा जाता ऐरावतरदाहतात्। महाशैलस्य शिखरात्पश्चात्त्वं विश्वपाविनी॥७॥
Earlier you arose as the Tamasā when Airāvata struck the summit of the great mountain; afterward you became purifier of the universe.
Passage 8
द्विवहेति च ते नाम लोके ख्यातं भविष्यति। प्रेमानन्दात्समुद्भूतां तस्मात्प्रेमजलेति च॥८॥
Your name Dvivahā, the Two-Flowing, will be famous in the world. Because you arose from the bliss of prema, you will also be called Premajalā, Love-Water.
Passage 9
अथ तेऽहं प्रवक्ष्यामि नामसाहस्रकं शुभम्। यस्य श्रवणमात्रेण प्रेमानन्दः प्रवर्धते॥९॥
Now I shall declare your auspicious thousand names. Merely hearing them causes the bliss of prema to increase.
Passage 10
सरयूः प्रेमसरयूः प्रेमानन्दसरोजला। प्रेमपूर्णा प्रेममयी प्रेमतोया महोदका॥१०॥
She is Sarayū and Love-Sarayū; her water-lotuses are the bliss of prema. She is full of love, made of love, with love for water, and rich in mighty waters.
Passage 11
रामगङ्गा रामनदी रामप्रेमा महानदी। सुधावर्णा चन्द्रवर्णा धनसाररसोदका॥११॥
She is Rāma-Gaṅgā, Rāma's river, Rāma-prema, and the great river; nectar-hued, moon-hued, with water tasting of fragrant camphor.
Passage 12
रसात्मिका रसमयी रसपूर्णा रसोदका। रसा रसप्रिया रस्या रसारम्या रसावहा॥१२॥
Her essence is rasa; she is made of rasa, full of rasa, and her water is rasa. She is rasa itself, lover of rasa, delightful, beautiful through rasa, and its bearer.
Passage 13
सुधामा वसुधा लक्ष्मीर्वसुधामा वसुद्रवा। सरिद्वरा सरिच्छ्रेष्ठा सरिद्रूपा सरोमयी॥१३॥
She is the abode of nectar, Vasudhā, Lakṣmī, the abode of riches, and flowing wealth; the excellent river, the best river, river-formed, and made of lakes.
Passage 14
रामकेलिकरी रामा रामचित्तप्रसादिनी। लोकसंतापहरिणी हनुमत्सेवितोदका॥१४॥
She furthers Rāma's play, is Rāmā herself, and gladdens Rāma's heart. She removes the world's affliction, and Hanumat serves her waters.
Passage 15
मरीचिमरुदाराध्या रामचन्द्रतनुप्रभा। द्रवद्रव्यमयी देवी दोलारूढामृतद्रवा॥१५॥
Marīci and the Maruts worship her; she is the radiance of Rāmacandra's body. The goddess is liquid substance itself, mounted upon a swing and flowing with nectar.
Passage 16
द्राविणी द्रविणावासा द्रवामृतमयी सरित्। सरणी सारिणी सारा साररूपा सरोवरा॥१६॥
She liquefies, is the abode of prosperity, and is a river made of flowing nectar. She is the course, the flowing one, the essence, essence-formed, and excellent among lakes.
Passage 17
पुरुषाश्रुमयी मोदा प्रमोदवनवाहिनी। कल्लोलिनी कलिहरा कल्मषघ्नी कलाधरा॥१७॥
She is made from the Puruṣa's tears, is delight, and flows through Pramoda forest. She is wave-filled, removes Kali, destroys impurity, and bears every art and phase.
Passage 18
कलामयी कलापूर्णा चन्द्रिका रामचन्द्रिका। वैकुण्ठवाहिनी वर्या वरेण्या वारिदेवता॥१८॥
She is made of the arts and phases and is complete in them; she is moonlight and Rāma's moonlight. She flows through Vaikuṇṭha, is excellent and most worthy of choosing, and is the deity of waters.
Passage 19
गुडूची गुडसुस्वादुर्गौडी गुडसमुद्भवा। वासिष्ठी च वरिष्ठश्रीर्वसिष्ठाराध्यदेवता॥१९॥
She is Gudūcī, sweet as jaggery, Gauḍī, and born from sweetness. She is Vāsiṣṭhī, the highest splendor, and the deity worshiped by Vasiṣṭha.
Passage 20
वसिष्ठावशिनी वश्या वश्याकर्षणकारिणी। सुवर्णा चैव सौवर्णी सुवर्णसिकतावहा॥२०॥
She brought Vasiṣṭha under her grace; she is graciously responsive and draws hearts to herself. She is golden, made of gold, and carries golden sand.
Passage 21
सुवर्णतटिनी चैव सुवर्णलवणोदका। विधिनेत्रजला वेधी विधिप्रेमा विधिप्रिया॥२१॥
She has golden banks and golden, savory water. She is the water of Brahmā's eyes, piercing insight, Brahmā's love, and beloved of Brahmā.
Passage 22
उत्तरङ्गा च तरला तारकापतिनिर्मला। तमसा तामसहरा तमोहन्त्री तमोवहा॥२२॥
She has lofty waves and swift currents and is pure like the lord of stars, the moon. She is Tamasā, remover of darkness and tamas, destroyer and bearer-away of gloom.
Passage 23
तीक्ष्णा तीक्ष्णगतिस्तुङ्गा तुङ्गवीचिविनोदिनी। तुङ्गतीरा तुङ्गभवा तुङ्गतीरप्रसारिणी॥२३॥
She is keen, moves swiftly, is lofty, and plays in towering waves. Her banks are high, she arises from heights, and she spreads along elevated shores.
Passage 24
तुङ्गतोया तुङ्गवहा तुङ्गगा तुङ्गगामिनी। तडित्प्रभा तडिद्रूपा तडिद्वीचिस्तडिज्जला॥२४॥
Her water and current are lofty; she rises high and moves through the heights. She has lightning's radiance and form, lightning-like waves, and flashing water.
Passage 25
तप्तोदका तप्ततनुस्तापहा तापसाश्रया। तपःसिद्धिकरी तापी तपनातापहारिणी॥२५॥
Her water and body glow with heat; she removes affliction and shelters ascetics. She perfects austerity, is Tāpī, and takes away the sun's scorching heat.
Passage 26
तापसंतापहरिणी तपनोत्था तपोमयी। तापिनी तपनाकारा तप्तदुःखसुखकारिणी॥२६॥
She removes the ascetic's suffering, rises from the sun, and consists of tapas. She warms, has the sun's form, and turns burning sorrow into happiness.
Passage 27
तरङ्गिणी तरलिनी तरणी तारिणी तरिः। स्थेमा स्थिरगतिः स्थात्री स्थावरोत्था स्थिरोदका॥२७॥
She is wave-filled, swift, a vessel, a deliverer, and the boat itself. She is steadfast, steady in motion, sustaining, arising among immovables, and firm in her waters.
Passage 28
स्थैर्यकर्त्री स्थिराकारा स्थिरा स्थावरदेवता। पूता पूतगतिः पूतलोकपावनकारिणी॥२८॥
She gives stability, has a stable form, is firm, and is deity of the immovable. She is pure, moves in purity, and makes the purified worlds holy.
Passage 29
पाविनी पवनाकारा पवमानगुणप्रदा। शीतला शीतसलिला शीतलाकृतिवाहिनी॥२९॥
She purifies, has the wind's form, and grants the virtues of the purifying breeze. She is cool, cool-watered, and carries a cooling form.
Passage 30
मन्दा मन्दगतिमन्दा मन्दलस्वरपूरणी। मन्दाकिनी मदाघूर्णी मन्दमन्दगमोदका॥३०॥
She is gentle and gently moving, filling the air with a soft musical sound. She is Mandākinī, swirls away pride, and her waters move very softly.
Passage 31
मीनाढ्या मीनसुखदा मीनकेलिविधायिनी। महोर्मिमालिनी मान्या माननीयमहागुणा॥३१॥
She abounds in fish, gives them happiness, and supports their play. Garlanded with great waves, she is honored, venerable, and endowed with magnificent qualities.
Passage 32
मरुत्सेव्या मरुल्लोला मरुत्तनुप्रसेविता। इक्ष्वाकुसेविततटा ईक्षाकृतमहोत्सवा॥३२॥
The Maruts serve her; she dances with the wind and is served by those of wind-like form. Ikṣvāku worshiped her banks, and the sight of her becomes a great festival.
Passage 33
ईक्षणीया इक्षुमती इक्षुखण्डरसोदका। कर्पूरनीरा कर्पूरी कर्पूरधवलोदका॥३३॥
She is worthy of beholding, rich in sugarcane, and her water tastes like sugarcane juice. Her stream is camphor-like; she is fragrant as camphor and has camphor-white water.
Passage 34
नागकन्या नागरहा नगराजविमर्दिनी। पातालगङ्गा पूताङ्गी पूजनीया परापरा॥३४॥
She is the serpent-maiden, destroys serpents, and subdues serpent-kings. She is the Gaṅgā of the netherworld, pure-limbed, worthy of worship, both transcendent and immanent.
Passage 35
परावरैकनिलया पारावारविहारिणी। पारङ्गता परप्रेमा परप्रीतिविवर्धिनी॥३५॥
She is the single abode of higher and lower realities and plays across both shores and the ocean. She has crossed beyond, is supreme love, and increases love for the Supreme.
Passage 36
फेनजला फेनज्वला फाल्गुनस्य वरप्रदा। फेनावृता फेनसिता फेनोद्वमनकारिणी॥३६॥
Her water is foam and her foam blazes; she grants boons in Phālguna. Covered in foam, white with foam, she casts up billows of foam.
Passage 37
फूत्कारा फलुकरी फलिनी फलपूजिता। फणीन्द्रफणसंसेव्या फणिकङ्कणभूषिता॥३७॥
She sounds with a rushing breath, bestows fruit, is fruitful, and is worshiped with fruits. Serpent-kings serve her with their hoods, and serpent bracelets adorn her.
Passage 38
खराकारा खरतरा खरराक्षसहारिणी। खगेन्द्रभजनीया च खगवंशविवर्धिनी॥३८॥
She assumes a fierce form, is fiercer still, and destroys the demon Khara. The lord of birds worships her, and she makes the race of birds flourish.
Passage 39
खगारूढा खगैः स्तुत्या खगजा च खगामिनी। खसाराध्या खसवृता खसवंशैकजीवना॥३९॥
She rides upon a bird, is praised by birds, bird-born, and bird-going. The mountain people worship her; they surround her, and she alone sustains their lineage.
Passage 40
खेलागतिः खलहरा खलतापपरिहारिणी। खदिनी खादिनी खेद्या खेदहा खेलकारिणी॥४०॥
Her movement is play; she removes the wicked and dispels the pain they cause. She cuts down and consumes evil, is worthy of reverence, removes sorrow, and creates divine play.
Passage 41
गणनीया गणैः पूज्या गाणपत्यमहाफला। गणेशपूजिता गण्या गणदुःखनिवारिणी॥४१॥
She is worthy of being counted and is worshiped by the divine hosts; she grants the great fruit of Gaṇapati worship. Gaṇeśa worships her; she is estimable and removes the hosts' sorrow.
Passage 42
गुणाढ्या गुणसम्पन्ना गुणगुम्फितविग्रहा। गुणनीया गुरुगुणा गुरुपूज्या गुरुद्रवा॥४२॥
She abounds in virtues, is complete in them, and her form is woven of virtues. She is worthy of praise, possesses the guru's qualities, is worshiped by gurus, and flows with spiritual gravity.
Passage 43
गुर्वी गीष्पतिसंसेव्या गिराचार्या गिराश्रया। गिरीन्द्रकन्दरावासा गिरीशसेवितोदका॥४३॥
She is weighty and venerable, served by Bṛhaspati, teacher of sacred speech, and refuge of the mountains. She dwells in the caves of the king of mountains, and Śiva serves her waters.
Passage 44
कोटिचान्द्रमसज्योतिः कोटिचान्द्रमहोज्ज्वला। कटाहभेदनपरा कठोरजवगामिनी॥४४॥
Her light equals ten million moons, and she shines with their immense brilliance. She breaks through the cosmic basin and advances with irresistible speed.
Passage 45
कठशाखापाठरता काठकानां वरप्रदा। काष्ठापरा काष्ठभेदा काष्ठाष्टकविनोदिनी॥४५॥
She delights in recitation of the Kaṭha branch and grants boons to the Kāṭhakas. She reaches the furthest limit, splits timber, and delights in the eightfold divisions of wood.
Passage 46
करवीरप्रसूनाढ्या करवालसितच्छविः। कम्बुश्वेता कम्बुकण्ठा कम्बुभृत्प्राणवल्लभा॥४६॥
She abounds in oleander blossoms and flashes like a sword. White as a conch and conch-necked, she is dear as life to the conch-bearing Lord.
Passage 47
धर्माढ्या धर्मशमनी धर्मपाठविनोदिनी। धर्मयोगसुसंतुष्टा घटाकारा घटोदका॥४७॥
She is rich in dharma, brings dharma to peaceful fulfillment, and delights in its recitation. Pleased by the yoga of dharma, she has the shape of a vessel and fills vessels with water.
Passage 48
घट्टिनी घट्टसुखदा घट्टपालवरप्रदा। घटकोटिसुसम्पन्ना घटाटोपजलोर्मिभृत्॥४८॥
She forms bathing ghāṭs, gives happiness there, and grants boons to their guardians. She fills millions of pots and bears magnificent, swelling waves.
Passage 49
चाञ्चल्यदारिणीन्द्राणी चाण्डालगतिदायिनी। चण्डातपक्लेशहरा चण्डा चण्डिममण्डिता॥४९॥
She tears away restlessness, is Indrāṇī, and grants a liberating destination even to an outcaste. She removes the torment of fierce heat, is fierce, and is adorned with power.
Passage 50
चाम्पेयकुसुमप्रीता चपला चपलाकृतिः। चम्पूग्रन्थविधानज्ञा चञ्चुपुटहृतोदका॥५०॥
She loves campaka flowers, is swift, and has a flashing form. She knows the composition of campū works, and birds carry her water in their beaks.
Passage 51
चंक्रमा चंक्रमकरी चमत्कारविवर्धिनी। चर्मकारकुलोद्धारा चर्मा चर्मण्वती नदी॥५१॥
She circles and sets all into motion, increasing wonder. She uplifts the community of leatherworkers; she is Carmā and the river Carmaṇvatī.
Passage 52
भूमेक्षणसमुद्धता भूगता भूमिपापहा। भूतलस्था भयहरा विभीषणसुखप्रदा॥५२॥
She arose when the earth beheld her, moves upon the earth, and removes its sins. Dwelling on the terrestrial plane, she dispels fear and gives happiness to Vibhīṣaṇa.
Passage 53
भूतप्रेतपिशाचघ्नी दुर्गतिक्षयकारिणी। दुर्गमा दुर्गनिलया दुर्गाराधनकारिणी॥५३॥
She destroys spirits, ghosts, and piśācas and brings bad destinies to an end. Difficult to approach, she dwells in the inaccessible and inspires the worship of Durgā.
Passage 54
दुराराध्या दुःखहरा दुर्गभूमिजयप्रदा। वन्या वनप्रिया वाणी वीणारवविनोदिनी॥५४॥
Though difficult to propitiate, she removes sorrow and grants victory in difficult terrain. She is wild, loves the forest, is sacred Speech, and delights in the sound of the vīṇā.
Passage 55
वाराणसीवासरता वासवी वासवप्रिया। वसुधा वसुधामा च वसुदात्री वसुप्रिया॥५५॥
She delights in dwelling at Vārāṇasī, is Vāsavī, and beloved of Indra. She is the earth, the abode of wealth, giver of riches, and lover of the Vasus.
Passage 56
वसुतेजा वसुपरा वसुवासविधायिनी। वैश्वानरी विश्ववन्द्या विश्वपावनकारिणी॥५६॥
She has the radiance of the Vasus, is devoted to them, and provides them an abode. She is the universal fire, praised by the world, and purifier of the universe.
Passage 57
वैश्वानररुचिर्विश्वा विश्वदीप्तिविशालिनी। विश्वासना विश्वसना विश्ववश्यत्वकारिणी॥५७॥
She shines like Vaiśvānara, is the universe, and is vast with cosmic brilliance. She is the seat and repose of all and draws the universe into willing harmony.
Passage 58
विश्वावसुप्रियजला विश्वामित्रनिषेविता। विश्वाराध्या विष्णुरूपा वषट्काराक्षरप्रिया॥५८॥
Her water is dear to Viśvāvasu, and Viśvāmitra serves her. The whole world worships her; she has Viṣṇu's form and loves the sacred syllables of vaṣaṭ.
Passage 59
पानप्रिया पानकर्त्री पातकीघहरिणी। नानायुधा नवजला नवीनगतिभूषिता॥५९॥
She delights in drinking and gives drink, removing the mass of sinners' faults. She bears many weapons, has ever-fresh water, and is adorned with renewed movement.
Passage 60
उत्तरङ्गातिविस्तारा स्वस्तहंससंवर्जिता। तुहिनाद्रिसमुद्भूता तुहिना तुहिनोदका॥६०॥
Her lofty waves spread immensely, and auspicious swans accompany her. She arises from the snowy mountain, is snow-cool, and bears snow-cold water.
Passage 61
कूलिनी कूलमिलिता कूलपातनतत्परा। कालात्मागमिनी काली कालिका कालरूपिणी॥६१॥
She possesses banks, meets their edges, and is intent on wearing them away. She moves as the soul of time, is Kālī and Kālikā, and assumes the form of time.
Passage 62
कौलालिनी कौलहरा कौलिताखिलपातका। कमला कमलाकारा कमलार्चितविग्रहा॥६२॥
She moves among Kaula adepts, removes their faults, and washes away every sin subjected to her current. She is Kamalā, lotus-formed, and her form is worshiped with lotuses.
Passage 63
करालकमलावेशा कलिकेल्लोलकारिणी। करिणी कारिणी कीर्णा कीर्णरूपा कृपावती॥६३॥
She enters even a fearsome lotus and raises waves in the age of Kali. She is active and causative, widely scattered in manifestation, manifold in form, and compassionate.
Passage 64
कुलीना कुलवध्या च कुलगाथा कुलावती। खगेन्द्रगामिनी खल्या खलीना खलतापहा॥६४॥
She is noble, honored by families, their sacred story, and rich in lineage. She moves with the lord of birds, subdues baseness, restrains the wicked, and removes the pain they cause.
Passage 65
स्खलद्गतिः खमार्गस्था खिलाखिलकथानका। खेचरीमुक्तिरूपा खलोकारिणामिनी॥६५॥
Her current slips and leaps; she travels the path of the sky and contains every complete and fragmentary tale. She is sky-going liberation and is renowned among those who behold the celestial realm.
Passage 66
गङ्गाजला गीतगुणा गीता गुप्तार्थबोधिनी। गोपमानगुणग्रामा गोवर्णिनी च गरीयसी॥६६॥
Her water is Gaṅgā; her virtues are sung; she is the Gītā and reveals hidden meaning. She is a treasury of virtues honored by cowherds, praises the cows, and is most venerable.
Passage 67
ग्रहापहा ग्रहणकृत्सुधा गुह्यार्थदायिनी। गेहिनी गर्भिताबोधा गवेन्द्रगुहागामिनी॥६७॥
She removes harmful planetary influence, is the nectar received in sacred observance, and grants hidden meaning. She inhabits every home, contains profound knowledge, and enters the mountain caves of the lordly bull.
Passage 68
गोपीजनगणाराध्या श्रीरामगुणगायिनी। गुणागुणविधिनी गुण्या गुणग्रामनिषेविता॥६८॥
Hosts of gopīs worship her, and she sings Śrī Rāma's virtues. She orders qualities and their opposites, is praiseworthy, and is served by multitudes of virtues.
Passage 69
गुह्यमाता गुह्यतत्त्वा गूढा गूढार्थबोधिनी। घर्घरारवमुदिता घर्घराघटिताकृतिः॥६९॥
She is mother of the secret, its essential truth, profoundly hidden, and revealer of hidden meaning. She delights in the river's rumbling sound, and her form is shaped by that resonant roar.
Passage 70
घटीचक्रैकमिलिता घटा घंटालविग्रहा। घनाघनसना घोरा घनसारसमाकृतिः॥७०॥
She joins the turning wheel of time, is the water-pot, and has a form resonant with bells. She thunders among dense clouds, is awesome, and has the essence of camphor.
Passage 71
घोषा घोषवती घुष्या घोषेश्वरसुताप्रिया। घोराघनाशकरी घर्मातिशयहारिणी॥७१॥
She is proclamation, resounds, and is worthy of proclamation; she is dear to the daughter of the lord of herds. She destroys terrible sin and removes oppressive heat.
Passage 72
घृणाकरी घृणिमती घृणिघृणीन्द्रसुप्रिया। घ्राता धर्मदुहिता धातीताशा धनाघना॥७२॥
She creates compassion, is compassionate, radiant, and greatly beloved of the radiant lord. She receives fragrance, is the daughter of dharma, transcends limitation, and is a cloud of riches.
Passage 73
चान्द्री चन्द्रमती चन्द्रा चन्द्रिका चन्द्रिकाकृतिः। चन्द्रिका चन्द्रिकाकारा चन्द्रालोककारिणी॥७३॥
She is lunar, moon-minded, the moon, moonlight, and formed of moonbeams. She is radiance, shaped as moonlight, and spreads the moon's illumination.
Passage 74
चन्दनद्रवसंसीता चमत्कृतजलाशया। चिन्ता चिन्तहरा विद्या चिन्तामणिसमाकृतिः॥७४॥
She is cooled by liquid sandalwood, and her reservoir fills one with wonder. She is thought, remover of anxiety, sacred knowledge, and formed like the wish-fulfilling jewel.
Passage 75
चिन्ताहरा चिन्तनीया चराचरसुखप्रदा। चतुराश्रमसंसेव्या चतुराननसेविता॥७५॥
She removes care, is worthy of contemplation, and gives happiness to all that moves and does not move. The four āśramas serve her, and four-faced Brahmā worships her.
Passage 76
चतुरा चतुराकारा चीर्णव्रतसुखप्रदा। चूर्णा चूर्णौषधसमा चपला चपलाकृतिः॥७६॥
She is skillful and fourfold in form, granting joy to those who have fulfilled their vows. She is fine as medicinal powder, swift, and lightning-formed.
Passage 77
छलिनी छलहन्त्री च छलिताशेषमानवा। छद्मिनी छद्महरिणी छद्मसद्मविधायिनी॥७७॥
She moves through appearance yet destroys deception, and all humanity is entranced by her. She veils herself, removes disguise, and fashions the dwelling of mystery.
Passage 78
छन्ना छन्नगतिछिन्ना छिदाकर्त्री छिदाकृतिः। छन्नाकारा छल्लजला छन्नपातकहारिणी॥७८॥
She is concealed, breaks hidden courses, opens passages, and assumes the form of an opening. Veiled in form and rippling in water, she removes sins committed in secret.
Passage 79
जयघोषा जयाकारा जैत्रा जनमनोहरा। जन्मिनी जन्महरिणी जगत्त्रयविनोदिनी॥७९॥
She is the cry of victory, victory-formed, triumphant, and captivates people's minds. She gives birth, removes rebirth, and delights the three worlds.
Passage 80
जगन्नाथप्रिया लक्ष्मीर्जम्बूद्वीपसुखप्रदा। जम्बालिनी जवगतिर्जपाकुसुमसुन्दरी॥८०॥
She is beloved of Jagannātha, is Lakṣmī, and gives happiness to Jambūdvīpa. She is rich in rose-apples, swift-moving, and beautiful as the hibiscus flower.
Passage 81
जम्बीररससंतुष्टा जाम्बूनदविभूषणा। जटाधरा च जटिला जम्भारिकरपूजिता॥८१॥
She delights in citron juice and is adorned with Jāmbūnada gold. She wears matted locks, is an ascetic, and is worshiped by Indra, the foe of Jambha.

जंगमा जितदैतेया जित्वरा जयवर्धिनी। जीवान्तरगतिर्जीव्या जीवाकर्षणतत्परा॥८२॥
She is mobile, has conquered the Daityas, is victorious, and increases triumph. She moves within living beings, sustains life, and draws souls toward herself.

ज्यानिनादैकमुदिता जरानाशनतत्परा। जलाश्रया जलकरी जालिनी जालवर्तिनी॥८३॥
She delights in the single twang of the bowstring and is intent on destroying old age. Water is her abode; she gives water, casts her net, and moves through its meshes.

जीमूतवर्षिणी जारा जारिणी जारवल्लभा। झञ्झारवा झणत्कारा झझरारावकारिणी॥८४॥
She rains from the clouds, wears away all things, causes that wearing, and is beloved of the consuming force. She roars like a storm, rings aloud, and produces the rushing sound of a cataract.
Passage 85
झिल्लीनिनादमुदिता झल्लरीनादतोषिणी। झरी झझरिकारूपा झांकाररवकारिणी॥८५॥
She delights in the chirping of crickets and is pleased by the sound of the large cymbal. She is a cascade, cataract-formed, and produces a resonant jingling roar.

टांकारिणी टंकहस्ता टापिनी टापगामिनी। टंटंनिनादमुदिता ठंठंशब्दप्रबोधिनी॥८६॥
She rings with the sound ṭāṃ, bears a chisel in hand, strikes onward, and moves with resounding steps. She delights in the sound ṭaṃ-ṭaṃ and awakens beings with the sound ṭhaṃ-ṭhaṃ.

ठाकुरा ठकुराज्ञा च ठंठंनिनदकारिणी। डमरूवादनपरा डक्काडांकारकारिणी॥८७॥
She is the sovereign Lady and the lord's command, producing the sound ṭhaṃ-ṭhaṃ. Intent on playing the ḍamaru, she makes the ḍakkā drum resound ḍāṃ.
Passage 88
डाकिनी डामराचार्या डी डमडमरवोत्कटा। ढक्का ढकारवाढ्या च ढंढाढुंढरवासिनी॥८८॥
She is Ḍākinī, teacher of the Ḍāmara tantra, the syllable ḍī, and fierce with the roll of drums. She is the great drum, rich in the sound ḍha, and dwells amid reverberating thunder.

ढढिप्रणयदक्षा च ढुंढिराजप्रपूजिता। तत्तातता महाताता तेजिनी तेजसान्विता॥८९॥
She is skilled in producing deep percussion and is worshiped by King Ḍhuṇḍhi, Gaṇeśa. She sounds ta-ta and tā-ta, is the great protector, radiant, and filled with splendor.

तोयान्विता तोयकरी तटपातनकारिणी। तरुणी तरुसंछन्ना तलशीतलनीरिणी॥९०॥
She is filled with water, gives water, and wears away her banks. Ever youthful, covered by trees, she carries cool water along her bed.

तुलसीसौरभाढ्या च तुलारहितरूपिणी। तन्वी तन्मात्राकारा तपस्या तपसि स्थिता॥९१॥
She abounds in the fragrance of tulasī and has an incomparable form. Slender, formed of the subtle elements, she is austerity itself and abides in tapas.
Passage 92
थेईथेईशब्दरता थंथूंशब्दसुखावहा। दयावती दुःखहरा द्राविणी द्रवदेवता॥९२॥
She delights in the dance-syllables theī-theī and brings joy with the sound thaṃ-thūṃ. Compassionate, she removes sorrow, causes the heart to melt, and is the deity of all that flows.

दीनदारिद्र्यहरिणी दमिनी दमकारिणी। दूरागता दूरगता दूरिताशेषपातका॥९३॥
She removes the poverty of the wretched, is self-controlled, and produces restraint. She comes from afar, travels far, and carries every sin far away.
Passage 94
दुर्वृत्तघ्नी दैत्यहरा दारिणी दावहारिणी। देवदारुवनप्रीता दोषघ्नी दीप्तिकारिणी॥९४॥
She destroys misconduct and demons, tears obstacles apart, and extinguishes forest fire. She loves deodar forests, destroys faults, and produces radiance.

दीपमाला द्वीपचारा दुरिता दुरितापहा। धन्या धनवती धीरा धीमती धेनुमण्डिता॥९५॥
She is a garland of lamps, moves among islands, confronts evil, and removes it. Blessed and wealthy, she is steadfast, wise, and surrounded by cows.

धयिनी धारिणी धात्री धात्रीतरफलाशिनी। धाराधारा धराकारा धराधरविचारिणी॥९६॥
She nourishes, supports, and is the universal nurse; she enjoys the āmalaka and other fruits. She bears streams upon streams, has the earth's form, and wanders among mountains.
Passage 97
धाविनी धावनकरी धनेश्वरवरप्रदा। धर्मप्रदा धर्मरता धार्मिका धार्मिकप्रिया॥९७॥
She runs swiftly and sets others in motion, granting boons to the lord of wealth. She gives dharma, delights in dharma, is righteous, and loves the righteous.
Passage 98
धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाख्या धमनी धमनीगतिः। धत्तूरफलसम्प्रीता धृताध्यानपरा धृतिः॥९८॥
She is known as dharma, artha, kāma, and mokṣa; she is the vital channel and moves through every channel. Pleased by dhattūra fruit, she is intent on sustained meditation and is constancy itself.

धारणा धीर्धराधीशा धीगम्या धारणावती। नम्या नमोनमःप्रीता नमा नमगतिनर्वा॥९९॥
She is concentration, wisdom, sovereign of the earth, accessible through insight, and endowed with sustaining power. Worthy of reverence, she delights in repeated salutations and leads the humble by a fresh path.

Lotus-eyed, she carries water, flows through lowlands, and has a spotless form. She is Nārāyaṇī, human wisdom, Woman divine, and remover of hell.

नवीना नवपद्माभा नाभीष्टगतिदायिनी। नगोद्धृता नगारूढा नागलोकातिपाविनी॥१०१॥
She is ever new, shines like a fresh lotus, and grants one's cherished destination. Raised from the mountain and mounted upon it, she supremely purifies the serpent world.

नन्दिनी नादिनी नादा निन्दानादविवर्जिता। नागरी नागरप्रीता नागराजप्रपूजिता॥१०२॥
She gives joy, resounds, is sound itself, and is free from every note of blame. She is cultured and urban, loves city-dwellers, and is worshiped by the serpent-king.

नागकेसरमालाढ्या नागेन्द्रमदगन्धिनी। पूर्णिमा परमाकारा परापरविवेकिनी॥१०३॥
She is decked with garlands of nāgakesara flowers and fragrant like the ichor of a lordly elephant. She is the full moon, the supreme form, and discerns the higher and lower realities.

प्रभातिनी प्रभावन्ध्या प्रभासा पुरुषेष्टदा। पुरुषार्थप्रदा पूता पंक्तिपावनकारिणी॥१०४॥
She is the dawn, rich in radiance, and the luminous Prabhāsa; she gives the Puruṣa's cherished blessing. She grants the aims of human life, is pure, and sanctifies the assembled line.

फलाढ्या फलदात्री च फणीन्द्रवरदायिनी। फालिनी फलपुष्पाङ्का फाल्गुनस्फीतकीर्तिदा॥१०५॥
She abounds in fruits and bestows results, granting boons to the serpent lord. Fruitful and marked by fruit and flower, she gives flourishing fame in Phālguna.
Passage 106
बलिपूज्या बलिहिता बलदेवप्रपूजिता। बाला बालरविप्रख्या बालरामगुणप्रदा॥१०६॥
She is worshiped with offerings, benefits the mighty, and is worshiped by Baladeva. She is the Maiden, radiant as the young sun, and grants the virtues of Rāma in childhood.

बलाकिनी बहुलगा बहुला बहुलाभदा। बाहुक्रीडामहोर्मिश्च बह्वी बाहुलमासगा॥१०७॥
She is accompanied by cranes, flows abundantly, is manifold, and grants abundant gain. Her great waves play like arms; she is vast and flows through the month of Bāhula.

भाविता भावुककरी भर्मदा भर्गपूजिता। भवहर्त्री भवप्रीता भवानी भुवनोद्धता॥१०८॥
She is contemplated, awakens deep feeling, grants sustenance, and is worshiped by Bharga, Śiva. She removes worldly becoming, loves existence, is Bhavānī, and uplifts the worlds.

भूतिकर्त्री भूतिहर्त्री भूतिनी भूतसेविता। भूधरा भूधरोद्भेदा भूतनाथार्चितोदका॥१०९॥
She creates prosperity and withdraws it, embodies all beings, and is served by them. She supports the earth, cleaves mountains, and the Lord of beings worships her waters.

She has abundant water, moves upon the earth, and gives delight to kings. Charming, greatly energetic, venerable, and great-souled, she captivates the mind.

माहात्म्यवर्धिनी मोहा मोदिनी मोहनाशिनी। मुग्धा मुग्धगतिमध्या मध्यलोकप्रियावहा॥१११॥
She increases sacred greatness, is enchantment, gives joy, and destroys delusion. Enchanting and graceful in her course, she bears what is dear to the middle world.

मधुरा मधुरालापा मधुरापतिवल्लभा। माधुर्यवारिधिर्माध्वी माध्वीककुसुमोत्कटा॥११२॥
She is sweet, speaks sweetly, and is beloved of the Lord of Mathurā. She is an ocean of sweetness, honeyed, and lavish with flowers rich in nectar.

मधूकपुष्पमुदिता मदिरारसघूर्णिता। मादिनी मालतीमाला मल्लीमाल्यप्रपूजिता॥११३॥
She delights in madhūka blossoms and swirls like the essence of wine. She exhilarates, wears a mālatī garland, and is worshiped with jasmine wreaths.
Passage 114
मन्दारपुष्पपूज्या च मन्दा मन्दाकिनीप्रिया। मन्दराचलसंस्थाना मन्दिरान्तरमोदिनी॥११४॥
She is worshiped with heavenly mandāra flowers, moves gently, and loves Mandākinī. She abides upon Mount Mandara and brings delight within the temple.
Passage 115
यवसावलिसम्भिन्ना यमुनाजलकेलिनी। यमभीतिप्रशमिनी यमिनी यमिनां हिता॥११५॥
She parts rows of river grass and plays in the Yamunā's water. She calms fear of Yama, is self-restrained, and benefits all who practice restraint.
Passage 116
योगमार्गप्रदा योग्या योगाचार्यप्रपूजिता। योक्त्री योगबलप्रीता योगिकार्थप्रकाशिनी॥११६॥
She grants the path of yoga, is worthy of union, and is worshiped by masters of yoga. She joins beings together, delights in yogic power, and reveals meaning to yogins.

यादवेन्द्रमनोरम्या यादोवरविभूषिता। यत्तत्पदार्थरूपा च यास्काचार्यहितप्रदा॥११७॥
She charms the lord of the Yādavas and is adorned with excellent aquatic creatures. She embodies the meanings of “that” and “this” and grants insight taught by the sage Yāska.

यश्या यशःप्रदा यम्या यज्ञा यज्ञविवर्धिनी। रमा रामा रता रम्या रमणी रमणीयभूः॥११८॥
She is glorious, gives fame, is disciplined, is sacrifice itself, and makes sacrifice flourish. She is Ramā and Rāmā, devoted and delightful, a lovely woman and a beautiful realm.

रामणीयकराशिश्च राशीशारुचिदायिनी। रामप्रिया रामरता रामरामा रमारुचिः॥११९॥
She is a treasury of loveliness and gives the moon its radiance. She loves Rāma, delights in Rāma, is Rāma's own Rāmā, and bears Lakṣmī's splendor.

रुच्या रुचिप्रदा रोचिप्रदा रोचितविग्रहा। रूपिणी रूपनिरता रूपकार्थसुखावहा॥१२०॥
She is beautiful, gives beauty and light, and her form shines. She possesses form, delights in beauty, and gives happiness through form and meaning.

रञ्जिनी रजनीरूपा रजताचलसुन्दरी। रजोगुणवती रक्षा रक्षोघ्नी राजसी रतिः॥१२१॥
She delights, assumes the form of night, and is beautiful as the silver mountain. She bears the quality of rajas, is protection, destroys demons, is royal, and is love.

लावण्यकृल्लवणहा लक्ष्मीर्लक्ष्यानुबन्धिनी। लक्ष्मणस्य प्रीतिकरी लक्ष्मणा लक्ष्मणाश्रया॥१२२॥
She creates loveliness, removes salinity, is Lakṣmī, and stays bound to the goal. She gives joy to Lakṣmaṇa, bears auspicious marks, and is Lakṣmaṇa's refuge.

ललामा लोचनभवा लोला लोलोर्मिमालिका। लीलावती लाभकरी लोभनीयगुणावहा॥१२३॥
She is a crest-jewel, born from the eyes, restless, and garlanded with dancing waves. Full of divine play, she brings gain and bears irresistible virtues.

लज्जावती लोकवती लोकालोकपरस्थिता। लोकनीया लोकहिता लोकेशवरदायिनी॥१२४॥
She is modest, contains the worlds, and abides beyond Lokāloka mountain. Worthy of the world's regard, she benefits all beings and grants boons to the lords of the worlds.

लालित्यकारिणी लीला लोपामुद्रासुखप्रदा। वनजा वनरम्या च वानीरवनगामिनी॥१२५॥
She creates grace, is divine play, and gives happiness to Lopāmudrā. Forest-born and delightful in woodland, she moves through groves of river reeds.

वानरेश्वरसुप्रीता वाग्वती विन्ध्यवासिनी। वाराणसीपुण्यकरी वारिगा वारिवाहिनी॥१२६॥
She greatly pleases the lord of the vānaras, is eloquent, and dwells in the Vindhyas. She makes Vārāṇasī holy, moves as water, and carries the stream.

वारिवाहगणश्यामा वारणेन्द्रसुखप्रदा। वातरंहा वातगतिर्वामाराज्यसुखप्रदा॥१२७॥
She is dark like a host of rainclouds and gives joy to the lord of elephants. She checks harmful winds, moves like the wind, and grants the happiness of a gracious kingdom.

वलिता वनिता वाणी वाणीवल्लभवल्लभा। वाहिनी वहनोद्धत्या वदावदविवादभूः॥१२८॥
She bends in curves, is Woman divine and sacred Speech, and is beloved of the beloved of Vāṇī. She flows, rises in her bearing, and is the ground of every discourse and debate.

शमिनी शामिनी श्यामा श्यामायामप्रबोधिनी। शमीकमुनिसंसेव्या शमीवृक्षोद्भवा शमा॥१२९॥
She pacifies, brings repose, is dark-hued, and awakens awareness in the dark expanse. The sage Śamīka serves her; she springs from the śamī tree and is peace itself.

शनेश्चरा शनिहरा शनिग्रहभयापहा। शमनातिहरा शम्पा शतह्रदविलासिनी॥१३०॥
She moves slowly like Śani, removes Saturn's affliction, and dispels fear of his planetary influence. She takes away excessive chastisement, flashes like lightning, and sports among a hundred pools.
Passage 131
शेषाशेषगतिः शोष्या शेषपुत्री शकदिप्रभा। श्मशानचारिणी शून्या शून्याकाशनिवासिनी॥१३१॥
She is the end and the path of all that remains, draws up moisture, and is daughter of Śeṣa, radiant with mighty light. She moves through cremation grounds, is emptiness, and dwells in the vacant sky.
Passage 132
शरातिहा शरीरातिहारिणी शरभेश्वरी। शल्यापहा शलभहा शलदानवनाशिनी॥१३२॥
She removes the pain of arrows and the body's suffering and is sovereign over Śarabha. She extracts thorns, destroys locusts, and annihilates the demon Śala.
Passage 133
षण्मुखी षण्मुखहिता षडक्षीणा षडङ्गभूः। षष्ठीशनाथसंसेव्या षष्ठीपूजनकारिणी॥१३३॥
She is six-faced, benefits six-faced Skanda, has six eyes, and embodies the six limbs of sacred learning. Served by the Lord of Ṣaṣṭhī, she inspires the worship of the sixth-day goddess. The printed scan repeats the verse number 132 here; 133 is supplied from the otherwise continuous sequence.
Passage 134
षड्वर्गजायिनी षट्का षड्वषट्कप्रपूजिता। सिता सीता सुता सूता सतां पूज्या सतां गतिः॥१३४॥
She conquers the six inner enemies, is sixfold, and is worshiped through the six vaṣaṭ invocations. She is white, is Sītā, daughter and mother, worshiped by the good and their supreme path.
Passage 135
सदाहास्यक्रिया सत्या सती सत्यार्थदायिनी। सरणिः सरयूः सीरा सलिलौघप्रवाहिनी॥१३५॥
Her action is ever smiling; she is truth, the faithful goddess, and giver of truth's meaning. She is the path, Sarayū, the furrow, and the bearer of surging waters.

सद्धर्मचारिणी सूभिः सुपास्या सूपपादिता। सुलभा सुखदा सुग्रा संग्रामभयहारिणी॥१३६॥
She practices true dharma, is well worshiped by the virtuous, and is properly established. Easily attained, she gives happiness, leads well, and removes fear in battle.
Passage 137
सुतरा सुतरा सोमा सोमनाथप्रपूजिता। सामिधेनी समित्प्रीता समिधा च समेधिनी॥१३७॥
She carries safely across, is a blessed daughter, is Soma, and is worshiped by Lord Somanātha. She is the kindling hymn, delights in sacrificial fuel, is the fuel itself, and blazes brightly.
Passage 138
समा समाना समगा सम्मत्ता सुमता सुभा। सुमार्च्या सुषुमाधारा सरोजावलिपूजिता॥१३८॥
She is equal, impartial, evenly flowing, fully honored, rightly understood, and auspicious. Worthy of excellent worship, she supports the suṣumṇā channel and is worshiped with rows of lotuses.
Passage 139
हरिप्रिया हिमवहा हिमानी हिमतोयगा। हरिदष्टकसंकीर्त्या हरिदश्वप्रपूजिता॥१३९॥
She is beloved of Hari, carries snow, is a glacier, and flows with icy water. She is praised with Hari's eightfold hymn and worshiped by the Sun, whose horses are tawny.

हंभारवैकसुप्रीता हिन्दोलाकेलिकारिणी। हिंसादोषप्रशमिनी हिंस्रमुक्तिप्रदायिनी॥१४०॥
She especially delights in the lowing of cows and sports upon a swing. She calms the fault of violence and grants liberation even from cruel impulses.
Passage 141
हारिणी हरसंस्तुत्या हकाराक्षरसंस्तुता। हत्याहरा हठरिपुर्हरचापप्रभञ्जिनी॥१४१॥
She carries away bondage, is praised by Hara, and is extolled through the syllable ha. She removes the sin of killing, defeats obstinacy, and breaks Hara's bow.

क्षेम्या क्षेमकरी क्षेमा क्षुधाक्षोभविनाशिनी। क्षुण्णा क्षोदा क्षीरनिधिः क्षीरसागरवासिनी॥१४२॥
She is well-being, produces welfare, is peace itself, and destroys the agitation of hunger. She is churned and finely divided, an ocean of milk, and dwells in the Milk Ocean.

क्षीवा क्षुतिक्षुरप्रस्या क्षिप्रा क्षिप्रार्थकारिणी। क्षोणिः क्षोणिहिता क्षामा क्षपाकरनिभोदका॥१४३॥
She is exhilarated, keen-edged against hunger, swift, and swiftly fulfills one's purpose. She is the earth, benefits the earth, is slender, and her water resembles the moon.
Passage 144
क्षारा क्षाराम्बुनिधिगा क्षपासंचारकारिणी। अमला अम्लसलिला अदःशब्दार्थरूपिणी॥१४४॥
She is saline, reaches the salt ocean, and moves through the night. Stainless, with tangy water, she embodies the meaning of the word “that below.”
Passage 145
अकाराक्षररूपा च ह्याकाराक्षररूपिणी। आर्द्राम्बरा आमजला आषाढी आश्विनात्मिका॥१४५॥
She has the form of the letter a and also the form of long ā. Her garment is wet, her water healing, and she embodies the months Āṣāḍha and Āśvina.
Passage 146
आग्रहायणरूपा च आतुरत्वविनाशिनी। आसुरी आसुरिसुता आगुतुष्टा इलेश्वरी॥१४६॥
She assumes the form of Mārgaśīrṣa and removes sickness. She is power among the Asuras, their daughter, satisfied by sacred invocation, and sovereign of the earth.

इन्द्रिया इन्द्रसम्पूज्या इषुसंहारकारिणी। इत्वरी इनसंसेव्या इरा इनवरेन्दिरा॥१४७॥
She is the power of the senses, worshiped by Indra, and destroys volleys of arrows. She moves at will, is served by the Sun, is sacred speech, and is the splendid Lady of the solar lord.

ईश्वरी ईतिहन्त्री च ईरिणी ईस्वरूपिणी। उदकौघप्रवहिणी उत्तङ्कमुनिपूजिता॥१४८॥
She is sovereign, destroys calamities, impels onward, and has the form of the vowel ī. She sends forth masses of water and is worshiped by the sage Uttaṅka.

उत्तराद्रिसुता उन्ना उत्तीर्णा उत्तरप्रदा। उत्तप्तकाञ्चननिभा ऊहिनी ऊहकारिणी॥१४९॥
She is daughter of the northern mountain, elevated, fully crossed beyond, and gives the highest answer. She resembles molten gold, inspires discernment, and brings understanding.

ऊषरा ऊषरक्षेत्रा ऊतिरूपी ऋभूस्तुता। ऋतप्रवर्तिनी ऋक्षा ऋक्षेन्द्रकुलपूजिता॥१५०॥
She is the arid tract and its field, embodies protection, and is praised by the Ṛbhus. She sets cosmic order in motion, is the constellation, and is worshiped by the lineage of the lord of bears.

ऋकाराक्षररूपा च ऋकारी ऋस्वरूपिणी। लृतका लृतकाचार्या लृकाराक्षरवासिनी॥१५१॥
She has the form of the letter ṛ, produces its sound, and embodies that vowel. She also manifests and teaches the rare vowel lṛ and dwells within its written syllable.

एषा एषितवेदार्था एवमेवार्थरूपदा। एवकारार्थगम्या च एतच्छब्दार्थरूपिणी॥१५२॥
She is “this,” seeks and reveals the Veda's meaning, and gives the reality expressed by “just so.” She is reached through the force of “eva” and embodies the referent of “etat.”

एता ऐता ऐक्कतिश्च ऐन्द्री ऐंकाररूपिणी। ओता ओकाररूपा च ओषधीशप्रपूजिता॥१५३॥
She is this present one, unity, Indra's power, and the form of the syllable aiṃ. She is woven through all, has the form of o, and is worshiped by the moon, lord of herbs.
Passage 154
औन्नत्यकारिणी अम्बा अम्बिका अङ्कवर्जिता। अन्तकप्रेयसी अङ्क्या अन्तका अन्तवर्जिता॥१५४॥
She produces exaltation, is Mother and Ambikā, and is beyond numerical marking. Dear to Death, yet worthy of being marked and counted, she ends all things while herself remaining without end.
Passage 155
अःकारमुदिता चैव सर्ववर्णस्वरूपिणी। सर्वशास्त्रार्थरूपा च सर्वकल्याणकारिणी॥१५५॥
She delights in the sound aḥ and embodies every letter. She is the meaning of all sacred texts and the maker of every blessing. The Fruit of Her Thousand Names
Passage 156
इदं श्रीसरयूदेव्या नामसाहस्रमुत्तमम्। मया निगदितं श्रुत्वा सर्वपापैर्विमुच्यते॥१५६॥
This supreme thousand-name hymn of the goddess Śrī Sarayū has been declared by me. Whoever hears it is freed from every sin.
Passage 157
बहूनि तव नामानि अनन्तान्येव सर्वशः। त्वं गङ्गा यमुना चैव गोदा चैव सरस्वती॥१५७॥
Your names are many and in every respect infinite. You are Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Godāvarī, and Sarasvatī.
Passage 158
नर्मदा चैव कावेरी भीमा कृष्णा च पार्वती। सिन्धुः सिन्धुसुता चैव सर्वदेवस्वरूपिणी॥१५८॥
You are Narmadā, Kāverī, Bhīmā, Kṛṣṇā, and Pārvatī; you are Sindhu and Sindhu's daughter, embodying every deity.
Passage 159
यस्त्वां स्मरति वै नित्यं मनुजो रामसेवकः। सर्वविघ्नहरा तस्य भविष्यसि न संशयः॥१५९॥
For the human devotee of Rāma who remembers you every day, you will remove every obstacle—of this there is no doubt.
Passage 160
प्रातरुत्थाय च नरो योऽवगाहेत वै त्वयि। तस्य सर्वाघहन्त्री त्वं रामभक्तिं प्रवर्तयेः॥१६०॥
When a person rises in the morning and immerses himself in you, you destroy all his sins and awaken devotion to Rāma within him.
Passage 161
दर्शनात्स्पर्शनाच्चैव स्मरणान्नामकीर्तनात्। रामप्रेमप्रदा नित्यं त्वं सर्वशुभकारिणी॥१६१॥
Through seeing you, touching you, remembering you, and chanting your names, you forever bestow Rāma-prema and bring every blessing.
