Passage 1
कौशिक्युवाच— कुशिको नाम राजाभून्मान्धातृकुलभूषणः। पृथिवीं पालयामास धर्मेण नयविक्रमी॥१॥
Kauśikī said: “There was a king named Kuśika, an ornament of Māndhātṛ's lineage. Powerful in statecraft, he governed the earth according to dharma.
Passage 2
चिरेण लब्ध्वा तनयं विषयेषु व्यरज्यत। तपस्येव मनश्चक्रे सहस्राणि समा दश॥२॥
“After obtaining a son only after a long time, he became detached from sense objects. He fixed his mind solely on austerity for ten thousand years.
Passage 3
अन्तर्वृत्तिरुपासीनो ब्रह्माक्षरमहर्निशम्। विशुद्धपाणिपादाङ्गो जितवाक्कायमानसः॥३॥
“Turning his awareness inward, he meditated day and night upon imperishable Brahman. His hands, feet, and limbs were pure, and he had mastered speech, body, and mind.
Passage 4
शारीरं केवलं कर्म कुर्वाणो योगतत्परः। तपः सञ्चरतस्तस्य भूपतेर्मुनिवर्त्मनि॥४॥
“Intent on yoga, he performed only the bodily acts needed to remain alive and followed the sages' path of austerity.
Passage 5
तपस्तेजःप्रभावेण तापितं विश्वतो जगत्। तत इन्द्रश्चिन्तयान्तर्भयकम्पितमानसः॥५॥
“The power and heat of his austerity scorched the world in every direction. Indra then became anxious, his mind trembling inwardly with fear.
Passage 6
स्थानभ्रंशं शङ्कमानो मन्त्रयामास संस्थितः। ततस्तु भगवान् जीवो वाचस्पतिरुदारधीः। मन्त्रमूचे महेन्द्राय शङ्कमानाय भूरिशः॥६॥
“Fearing the loss of his station, Indra held counsel. Then the venerable and magnanimous Vācaspati, lord of life, offered extensive counsel to the deeply worried Mahendra.
Passage 7
बृहस्पतिरुवाच— मा भैषीः सुरशार्दूल कुशिकान्मुनिसत्तमात्। एष हि ब्रह्मनिष्ठोऽस्ति नितान्तं तपसि स्थितः। प्रत्यूह्यतां तपश्चास्य त्वमेधि च निरामयः॥७॥
Bṛhaspati said: “Tiger among gods, do not fear Kuśika, foremost among sages. He is wholly established in Brahman and utterly fixed in austerity. Let his penance be obstructed, and you will be free from danger.
Passage 8
इन्द्र उवाच— मयास्मै प्रेषितास्तात तपःप्रत्यूहसिद्धये। देवकन्याः स्मरोन्मत्ताः प्रवराप्सरसस्तथा॥८॥
Indra said: “Revered one, I sent celestial maidens and the foremost Apsarases, maddened with desire, to accomplish the obstruction of his austerity.
Passage 9
कुरङ्गाक्ष्यश्चन्द्रमुख्यः स्मितपूर्वाभिभाषिणीः। राजहंसाभगतयो जङ्घाकाण्डविराजिताः॥९॥
“They had doe-like eyes and moonlike faces and spoke only after smiling. Their gait resembled royal swans, and their shapely legs shone beautifully.
Passage 10
दिव्याम्बरधरा देव्यो दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनाः। पारिजातप्रसूनाढ्यमाल्यभूषणभूषिताः॥१०॥
“The goddesses wore celestial garments and were anointed with divine fragrances. Garlands rich in pārijāta blossoms and exquisite ornaments adorned them.
Passage 11
दिव्याः सुलाञ्छना नार्यो वशमोहनकारिणीः। कम्बुकण्ठ्यः शातकुम्भकुम्भस्तनमनोहराः॥११॥
“Those celestial women bore every auspicious mark and could captivate and subdue the mind. Their necks resembled conch shells, and their breasts were lovely like vessels of refined gold.
Passage 12
उर्वशी तुर्वशी रम्भा मेनका पुञ्जिकस्थली। तिलोत्तमा घृताची चेत्याघास्ता वामलोचनाः॥१२॥
“Urvāśī, Turvaśī, Rambhā, Menakā, Puñjikasthalī, Tilottamā, and Ghṛtācī—all those beautiful-eyed women went.
Passage 13
तत्र गत्वा वनोद्देशे स वै यत्र तपस्यति। नृत्यगीतस्मितालापैश्चक्रिरे तस्य मोहनम्॥१३॥
“They entered the region of the forest where he practiced austerity and tried to enchant him with dance, song, smiles, and charming conversation.
Passage 14
न चचाल स तैर्भावैः पवमानैरिवाचलः। ततस्ता विफलायासा भूत्वाययुर्मम सन्निधौ॥१४॥
“He was no more moved by their enticements than a mountain is moved by the winds. Their efforts having failed, they returned to my presence.
Passage 15
जातश्चैव ततोऽत्यर्थं चिन्तयाहं समाकुलः। नूनं स्थानं मे कुशिको ग्रहीष्यति तपोबलात्॥१५॥
“I then became overwhelmed by extreme anxiety: ‘Surely Kuśika will seize my station through the power of his austerity.’ Bṛhaspati's Plan
Passage 16
बृहस्पतिरुवाच— काम आमन्त्र्यतां शीघ्रमस्मिन् कार्ये मनोभवः। रतिश्चैव वसन्तश्च तवाज्ञावशगा ह्यमी॥१६॥
Bṛhaspati said: “Quickly summon Kāma, the mind-born god, for this task. Rati and Spring also stand obedient to your command.
Passage 17
यदा तस्मिन् वने रम्ये वसन्तः कुसुमाकरः। आत्मानमादधीतोच्चैस्तदा कामो विजृम्भताम्॥१७॥
“When flower-bearing Spring fully manifests himself in that delightful forest, let Kāma expand his power.
Passage 18
रतिर्भगवती देवी स्वं रूपं काममोहनम्। पृथक् कृत्य निजांशेन दर्शनं यातु तं प्रति॥१८॥
“Let the divine goddess Rati project from her own being a separate form that enchants even Kāma and appear before the king.
Passage 19
क्रीडतात्सन्निधौ तस्य शमिष्ठस्य तपस्विनः। हावभावानुभावाद्यैर्मोहयत्वत्तरं मुनेः॥१९॥
“Let her sport near that peaceful ascetic and thoroughly bewilder the sage with gestures, expressions, outward signs of passion, and every other enticement.
Passage 20
एवं कृते तपोविघ्नाद्भविष्यति हितं तव। इत्युक्तो देवगुरुणा देवराजः प्रतापवान्॥२०॥
“Once his austerity is obstructed in this way, the outcome will favor you.” Thus the mighty king of gods was instructed by the gods' preceptor.
Passage 21
सस्मार रहसि स्थित्वा स्मरं प्रकृतिमोहनम्। स्मृतमात्रः स कन्दर्प आजगाम सुराधिपम्। ववन्दे शिरसा शक्रं प्राञ्जलिः पुरतः स्थितः॥२१॥
“Standing in seclusion, Indra remembered Smara, the enchanter of nature. The instant he was remembered, Kandarpa came to the lord of gods, bowed his head to Indra, and stood before him with joined palms.
Passage 22
काम उवाच— धन्योऽस्म्यनुगृहीतोऽस्मि यदहं भवता स्मृतः। तदेव भाग्यं भृत्यानां प्रभूणां यदपेक्षिता॥२२॥
Kāma said: “I am blessed and favored because you have remembered me. A servant's true fortune is to be needed by his master.
Passage 23
आज्ञाप्यतां प्रभो मह्यं मदर्हं यत्प्रयोजनम्। प्रायस्तव प्रसादेन देवेषु सायुधोऽप्यहम्। त्वदाज्ञावशगो भूत्वा करिष्ये विश्वतो जयम्॥२३॥
“Lord, command me in whatever purpose is worthy of my power. By your grace I stand armed even among the gods. Acting under your command, I shall gain victory throughout the world.”
Passage 24
इन्द्र उवाच— अहं हि शङ्कमानोऽस्मि कुशिकस्य तपोबलात्। अत्युग्रं हि तपस्तस्य मदासनमभीप्सतः॥२४॥
Indra said: “I am afraid of the power of Kuśika's austerity. His penance is exceedingly fierce, and he desires my throne.
Passage 25
शतं क्रतूनां यः कुर्यात्ततः शङ्केतरामहम्। एवंविधस्तपस्वी यस्ततः शङ्केतमां स्मर॥२५॥
“I fear anyone who completes a hundred sacrifices; I fear an ascetic of this kind even more, O Smara.
Passage 26
प्रायः सम्प्रेषितास्तत्र कति चाप्सरसो मया। कुशिकस्य तपोविघ्नसिद्धये धृतचेतसः॥२६॥
“I already sent several resolute Apsarases there to accomplish the disruption of Kuśika's austerity.
Passage 27
ततस्ता विफलायासा भूत्वा प्राप्ता मदन्तिकम्। तदर्थं त्वं स्मृतोऽस्यद्य स्मर त्रैलोक्यमानजयिन्॥२७॥
“Their efforts failed, and they returned to me. Therefore I have remembered you today, O Smara, conqueror of the pride of the three worlds.
Passage 28
भवान् विदितः पूर्वं रुद्रो येन विनिर्जितः। शरीरं दाहयित्वापि देवकार्यं प्रसाधितम्॥२८॥
“You are known as the one who formerly conquered even Rudra. Although he burned your body, the gods' purpose was still accomplished.
Passage 29
तस्मात्त्वं कुशलः कामः कार्ये चैवंविधे मम। तारकाख्यः पुरा दैत्यः कार्तिकेयेन निर्जितः॥२९॥
“Therefore, Kāma, you are skilled in just such a task of mine. The demon named Tāraka was once defeated by Kārttikeya,
Passage 30
तदर्थं कार्तिकेयस्योत्पत्त्यै गौरी प्रयोजिता। स एव त्वं भवान् वीरो मत्कार्यं परिसाधकः॥३०॥
“and for that purpose you brought about the union with Gaurī that led to Kārttikeya's birth. You are that same hero, capable of accomplishing my present work.
Passage 31
अधुना ह्यस्य राजर्षेश्चित्तं मोहय दर्पक। इतो गत्वाऽऽश्रमं तस्य राजर्षेः सत्तपस्विनः॥३१॥
“Now, O Darpaka, bewilder this royal sage's mind. Go from here to the hermitage of that kingly sage and true ascetic.
Passage 32
मधुराज्ञापनीयस्ते विकासाय महीरुहाम्। लतामण्डपगुञ्जानां द्रुमगह्वरवेश्मनाम्॥३२॥
“You must command Spring to make the great trees bloom, together with the clustered vine bowers and the cavernous chambers formed by trees.
Passage 33
विकसितेषु वृक्षेषु मधुना मधुरश्रिया। गुञ्जत्सु मत्तभृङ्गेषु प्रवाति मलयानिले॥३३॥
“When Spring has opened the trees in sweet splendor, intoxicated bees will hum and the Malaya breeze will blow.
Passage 34
कोकिलेषु च कूजत्सु फुल्लत्सु कमलेषु च। मञ्जरीषु लसन्तीषु वासन्तीषु च निर्भरम्॥३४॥
“Cuckoos will call, lotuses will flower, and the abundant springtime clusters of blossoms will shine.
Passage 35
रतिस्तत्र निजांशेन तव भार्या प्रदीव्यतु। सन्निधौ तस्य राजर्षेर्विविधोत्सवकारिणी॥३५॥
“Let your wife Rati manifest there through a projected portion of herself, creating many alluring festivities in the royal sage's presence.
Passage 36
वेशयित्वा निजात्मानं क्रीडतां चित्तमोहिनी। त्वं च तस्मिन्नेव काले सज्जीकृत्य निजं धनुः॥३६॥
“Let that enchantress of the mind enter the projected form and sport before him. At that very moment, ready your own bow.
Passage 37
एकदैवाखिलान् बाणान् मुञ्चेथाः श्लक्ष्णकोपतः। एवं कृते तपोविघ्नो भवितास्य तपस्विनः॥३७॥
“With subtle force, release all your arrows at once. When this is done, the ascetic's austerity will be broken.
Passage 38
भविता च हितं मह्यं त्वत्कृतं मनसोद्भव। ओमित्युक्त्वा ततः कामः कुशिकस्य तपस्विनः॥३८॥
“Mind-born god, the deed you perform will benefit me.” Kāma replied, “So be it,” and turned toward the ascetic Kuśika.
Passage 39
आश्रमं प्रययौ वीरो रत्या च मधुना सह। मधुमाज्ञापयामास विकासाय महीरुहाम्॥३९॥
“The hero went to the hermitage with Rati and Spring. He commanded Spring to bring the great trees into bloom. Spring and Rati Overcome Kuśika

विभासिरे पलाशानि शोणितानि समन्ततः। मृगेन्द्रनखसङ्काशद्वितीयाचन्द्रकान्तिभिः॥४०॥
“Red palāśa blossoms shone everywhere, their crescent forms gleaming like the claws of a lion.
Passage 41
केतकीकाननान्युच्चैः पुष्पितानि समन्ततः। तदीयरजसोद्भूतो वायुः सुधूसरः॥४१॥
“Groves of ketakī flowered profusely on every side, and the wind became pale with pollen rising from them.
Passage 42
मलयानिलसंस्पर्शाज्जना मुमुदिरे भृशम्। जुगुञ्जुर्भ्रमरा मत्ताश्चुकूजुश्चैव कोकिलाः॥४२॥
“People delighted greatly at the touch of the Malaya breeze. Intoxicated bees hummed, and cuckoos called.
Passage 43
शुकसारिकहंसाद्याः प्रमत्ताः परितोऽभवन्। सरांसि फुल्लपद्मानि प्रसन्नोदकभाञ्जि च॥४३॥
“Parrots, mynah birds, swans, and the other birds grew exhilarated all around. The lakes bore open lotuses and clear water.
Passage 44
चञ्चरीकचयाक्षिप्तरजांसि कमलानि च। सहकारद्रुमवती सद्यो मञ्जरिताभवत्॥४४॥
“Swarms of bees scattered the pollen of the lotuses, and the land rich in mango trees was suddenly covered in blossom clusters.
Passage 45
माधवी विकसितपुष्पसौरभ्यरजसाञ्चिता। कुशिकाश्रमवीथीषु प्रववौ वातघोरणी॥४५॥
“Carrying the fragrance and pollen of fully opened mādhavī flowers, a circling breeze blew through the pathways of Kuśika's hermitage.
Passage 46
मृगाः खगा वराहाश्च मातङ्गाश्च मृगाधिपाः। स्वस्वकान्ताः समालिङ्ग्य वने सुखमशेरत॥४६॥
“Deer, birds, boars, elephants, and lions each embraced their mates and rested happily in the forest.
Passage 47
एवं सम्प्रसृते मधौ रतिपतिः स्वांशेन मायां रतिं तत्रैवावतरीतुमद्रुततमामाज्ञापयामास ताम्। सात्यर्थं विपुलस्तनोन्नतिमती मन्दं चरन्ती मुनेः पार्श्वे भावतरङ्गिणी समलसत्क्रीडामनोज्ञाकृतिः॥४७॥
“When Spring had spread in this way, Rati's lord commanded her to descend there at once as a magical projection of herself. Full-breasted and moving slowly near the sage, she shone with waves of emotion in an enchanting form made for amorous play.
Passage 48
कामश्चावततार सज्यधनुषा संवीज्य पञ्चाशुगान् स्तत्रत्यान् कुशिकाश्रमोपवनगान् विप्रान् मुनीन् मारयन्। तत्साहाय्यवशादभूद्रतिरपि प्रत्युद्गनम्रेक्षणा वक्रेन्द्रीकलितावगुण्ठनपटा साकूतमन्दस्मिता॥४८॥
“Kāma descended with his bow strung and loosed his five arrows, striking the priests and sages in the gardens around Kuśika's hermitage. Empowered by his aid, Rati approached with modestly lowered glances, her veil curved like the crescent moon and a suggestive gentle smile upon her face.
Passage 49
ततो मुनिः पूर्णितमानसोऽभवत्कन्दर्पबाणाहतमर्मचञ्चलः। कथं कथञ्चित्प्रविधाय निग्रहं शेके न कर्तुं मनसः प्रतिक्रियाम्॥४९॥
“The sage's mind was then overwhelmed, his vital core agitated by Kāma's arrows. However he struggled to restrain himself, he could not counter the movement of his mind.
Passage 50
ततः समुन्मूल्य धृतिं धृतीश्वरो दृशौ समुन्मील्य रतिं व्यलोकयत्। पुरः स्फुरत्काञ्चनविद्युदाकृतिं साक्षान्मनोमोहनमञ्जुलोज्ज्वलाम्॥५०॥
“His fortitude uprooted, the once steadfast king opened his eyes and saw Rati before him, shining like golden lightning—radiant, beautiful, and visibly enchanting the mind.
Passage 51
दृष्ट्वा तपस्वी स तु पर्यतप्यत प्रभूतयश्चेषुविनोदविह्वलः। धृतिं विधातुं न शशाक पङ्किलो रसेन रागेण च रञ्जितो बलात्॥५१॥
“Seeing her, the powerful ascetic burned with longing and was overwhelmed by the play of Kāma's arrows. Stained and forcibly colored by passion and rasa, he could no longer maintain his composure.

ऊचे शनैस्तां सुभगामनिन्दितां बालां मनोज्ञाचरितां तडिल्लताम्। कासि त्वमम्भोजदलायतेक्षणे मदक्षिकपुरन्दरजीविमोक्षिणी॥५२॥
“He softly addressed that fortunate and faultless young woman, whose charming movements resembled a vine of lightning: ‘Who are you, lotus-petal-eyed one, who steals away the very life of the lord before you?
Passage 53
अनेन तव रूपेण तत्क्षणात्कवलीकृतम्। धैर्यं मम वरारोहे तपश्च प्रविनाशितम्॥५३॥
“‘Excellent-hipped woman, your beauty swallowed my courage in a single instant and destroyed my austerity.
Passage 54
पुनरङ्कुरिता नैव भविष्यति मतिर्मम। हावैर्भावैस्तव ग्रस्ता दवदग्धा लता यथा॥५४॥
“‘My resolve, seized by your gestures and emotions, will never sprout again, just as a forest-fire-burned vine cannot grow anew.
Passage 55
कृपय कृपय मह्यं कासि चार्वङ्गि भूयाः किमपि सुखवती त्वं भूरिकल्याणिनी च। इह हि तव पदाभ्यां शोणिताभ्यां किलाभ्यां मम गृहवसुधेयं मार्जिता रञ्जिता च॥५५॥
“‘Show me compassion, lovely-limbed woman. Whoever you may be, may you possess happiness and abundant blessing. The earth of my dwelling has been swept clean and colored beautifully by your two red feet.
Passage 56
कलय कलय कामिन्युत्कलां दृष्टिमेतां मयि गगनसुमध्ये कुम्भवक्षोजकुम्भे। दलय दलय भामिन्यातुरत्वं मदीयं परिहर मम दुःखं मान्मथं दुश्चिकित्सम्॥५६॥
“‘Pass this ardent gaze over me, passionate woman, as you stand slender-waisted beneath the sky with breasts like golden jars. Break apart my torment, beautiful one, and remove this affliction of Kāma that is so difficult to cure.
Passage 57
तनुरियमनवद्या तावकी कोमलाङ्गि स्फुटममिततपोभिः कापि दुष्प्रापरूपा। मम जनुषि समस्ते नानुभूतेदृशीयं मधुरिमपरिसम्पत्कम्बुकण्ठित्रपाढ्ये॥५७॥
“‘Tender-limbed woman, this faultless body of yours is a form obtainable only through immeasurable austerities. In my entire life I have never experienced such a treasury of sweetness, graced by a conch-like neck and modesty.
Passage 58
इह हि तव मनोज्ञा यत्त्रपा पद्मपत्रप्रतिमसुनयनन्यक्कारिणी नो तदर्हा। जहिहि जहिहि कान्ते नूनमेनां विमूढां प्रविश ननु मदङ्कं वर्ष्मणा कोमलेन॥५८॥
“‘The captivating modesty that lowers your lotus-petal eyes is not fitting here. Beloved, cast off that bewildering shyness and enter my lap with your tender body.’
Passage 59
एवं वदन् मुनिस्तत्र स्खलन्निजवीर्यतः। ततस्तया चिरं रेमे साक्षाद्रत्या स्मरो यथा॥५९॥
“Speaking in this way, the sage fell away from his own spiritual strength. He then sported with her for a long time, like Smara himself with Rati.
Passage 60
चिरेण रममाणस्य विधूतस्य तपोबलात्। बहुशोऽगुः समास्तस्य राजर्षेः प्रतिभावतः॥६०॥
“As the once radiant royal sage continued in pleasure, shaken from the power of his austerity, many years passed.
Passage 61
तयोः संयोगतो जाता कन्यैका रतिरूपिणी। जातमात्रां तु तां न्यस्य रतिरन्तर्दधे ततः॥६१॥
“From their union a single daughter was born in Rati's likeness. As soon as the child was born, Rati left her there and vanished.
Passage 62
साहं कुशिकराजस्य कन्या जनकभूपते। मातृहीनां तु मां दृष्ट्वा स मुनिः पर्यपालयत्॥६२॥
“King Janaka, I am that daughter of King Kuśika. Seeing me without a mother, the sage raised and protected me.
Passage 63
दिने दिनेऽहं ववृधे वर्तमाना तदाश्रमे। कदाचित्प्रौढवयसि स्थिताहं दिव्यरूपिणी॥६३॥
“Living in his hermitage, I grew day by day. In time I reached maturity, possessing a divine form. Kauśikī Worships Sahajānandinī
Passage 64
अपश्यमग्नितनयांस्तदाश्रमसमीपतः। सहजापरितोषाय चिरेणैव तपस्यतः॥६४॥
“Near that hermitage I saw the sons of Fire, who had long been practicing austerity to please Sahajā.
Passage 65
अमी अग्निकुमारा हि षष्टिसाहस्रसंख्यकाः। रामरासपरिप्राप्त्यै सहजाराधनोत्सुकाः॥६५॥
“Those sons of Fire numbered sixty thousand. Eagerly worshiping Sahajā, they sought complete attainment of Rāma's rasa.
Passage 66
तानपृच्छं ततो गत्वा के यूयमिति बालकान्। ते मामूचुः कृपावन्तो भक्तवत्सलमानसाः॥६६॥
“I approached those youths and asked, ‘Who are you?’ Compassionate and tender-hearted toward devotees, they answered me.
Passage 67
रामरासपरिप्राप्त्यै कुर्मः श्रीसहजास्तवम्। तच्छ्रुत्वाहं च राजेन्द्र तदुक्ते साधने रता॥६७॥
“‘We praise glorious Sahajā to attain the fullness of Rāma's rasa.’ Hearing this, O king, I devoted myself to the discipline they described.
Passage 68
पञ्चवर्षसहस्राणि पर्यतोषयमीश्वरीम्। सहजानन्दिनीं नाम रामशक्तिं मनोहराम्॥६८॥
“For five thousand years I sought to please the sovereign goddess Sahajānandinī, the enchanting power of Rāma.
Passage 69
क्रमेण सा ततस्तुष्टा प्रत्यक्षा दर्शनं ययौ। शावरीरूपमास्थाय चरन्ती गहने वने॥६९॥
“In due course she became pleased and appeared visibly before me, assuming the form of a Śabara huntress wandering in the deep forest.
Passage 70
गुञ्जाहारवृतोरस्का शिखिपिच्छावतंसिनी। राङ्कवं निर्मलं चर्म वसाना सुभगाकृतिः॥७०॥
“A necklace of guñjā berries covered her breast, and peacock feathers adorned her hair. Dressed in a spotless antelope hide, she possessed an exquisite form.
Passage 71
मृगपोतं गुणैर्बद्धं वहन्ती शुकशालिनी। सुवर्णमञ्जरीरत्नमञ्जरीगुम्फितालका॥७१॥
“She carried a young deer bound gently with cords and was accompanied by a parrot. Clusters of gold and jewels were woven through her locks.
Passage 72
रसालमञ्जरीमञ्जुकर्णाभूषणभूषिता। श्रीरामसख्यनिरता मृगयाक्रीडनत्परा॥७२॥
“Delicate mango blossoms formed her lovely ear ornaments. Absorbed in companionship with Śrī Rāma, she appeared intent upon the sport of the hunt.
Passage 73
फलपुष्पलतापत्रसर्वस्वैर्मण्डिताकृतिः। मां निरीक्ष्य स्मयन्ती सा द्रुमशाखावलम्बिनी॥७३॥
“Her form was adorned with every kind of fruit, flower, vine, and leaf. Leaning from a tree branch, she looked upon me and smiled.
Passage 74
श्रीसहजोवाच— रामरासपरिप्राप्तिर्दुर्लभा तव भामिनि। तथापि मां समाराध्य सुलभा भविता तव॥७४॥
Śrī Sahajā said: “Beautiful one, the complete attainment of Rāma's rasa is difficult for you. Nevertheless, by worshiping me it will become easy for you.
Passage 75
भाविन्यनन्तरे यर्हि गोपः श्रीनन्दनाभिधः। तस्य पत्न्यां तु राजिन्यां भवितास्मि न संशयः॥७५॥
“In a future age there will be a cowherd named Śrīnandana. Without doubt, I shall be born through his wife Rājinī.
Passage 76
रामरासविनोदाय तर्हि त्वं मामुपेष्यसि। कौशिकी मत्सखी भूत्वा रमयिष्यसि रामिणम्॥७६॥
“You will then come to me for the joyous play of Rāma's rasa. Becoming my companion Kauśikī, you will delight the divine lover.
Passage 77
अभिरामं रामचन्द्रं रामा भूत्वा सीतापतिम्। इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे सद्यः श्रीमती सहजेश्वरी॥७७॥
“Becoming a beautiful beloved, you will delight charming Rāmacandra, Sītā's lord.” Having spoken thus, the glorious sovereign Sahajā immediately vanished. River Birth and Descent into Janaka's Home
Passage 78
तद्रूपदर्शनोद्भूतकन्दर्पविवशाकृतिः। अहं च द्रवतां याता नदीरूपेण संस्थिता॥७८॥
“The sight of her form awakened such overpowering divine desire that my body melted. I became fluid and remained in the form of a river.
Passage 79
सहजानन्दिनीशक्तिक्रीडास्थानं महावनम्। क्षालयन्ती भुजाकारैस्तरङ्गैर्वायुनेरितैः॥७९॥
“With wind-driven waves shaped like arms, I washed the great forest that serves as the playground of Sahajānandinī's power.
Passage 80
त्रिसन्ध्यं मुनिशार्दूलं तोषयन्ती क्रियाविधौ। चिरमेव स्थिता राजन् कुशिकस्याश्रमं प्रति॥८०॥
“At the three daily junctures I served the tiger among sages in his prescribed rites. King, I remained beside Kuśika's hermitage for a very long time.
Passage 81
तस्मादहं श्रीसहजाख्यशक्तेः सखी चिरं रामरसार्त्यभिज्ञा। इमामिहोत्तीर्य विचिन्त्य गृहेऽवतीर्णास्मि तव क्षितीन्द्र॥८१॥
“Thus I am a longtime companion of the power named Śrī Sahajā and understand the longing for Rāma's rasa. Having crossed beyond this river condition and remembered her promise, I have descended into your home, lord of the earth.
Passage 82
नूनमेतदभेदेन पालनीयास्मि वत्सल। श्रीरामानन्दरसिका साधिनी सहजासखी॥८२॥
“Affectionate king, you must surely protect me without distinction from your other daughter. I am Sahajā's companion, a practitioner who relishes the blissful rasa of Śrī Rāma.”
