Viṣṇu Grants Triyugā Companionship with Sahajā

Triyugā's unwavering answer ends Viṣṇu's test. The young Brahmin reveals himself as Ādi-Nārāyaṇa in a radiant four-armed form and explains that even the gods serve him, while Sahajā Lakṣmī eternally occupies his left side. He grants Triyugā the future fruit of her austerity: during the Rāma avatāra she will become Sahajā's companion and thereby attain him. Triyugā identifies their eternal Pramodā Forest forms as Sahajānandinī and Nandinī. Viṣṇu Reveals His Divine Form

Passage 1

त्रियुगोवाच— इत्युक्ते तु मया वाक्ये भगवान् कमलेक्षणः। प्रादुरासीद्वटुः साक्षादादिनारायणो हरिः॥१॥

Triyugā said: “When I had spoken these words, the lotus-eyed Lord in the form of the young Brahmin revealed himself directly as Hari, the primordial Nārāyaṇa.

Passage 2

शङ्खचक्रगदापद्मधारी शार्ङ्गविभूषितः। पल्लवारुणपादाब्जनखचन्द्रमरीचिभाः॥२॥

“He bore conch, discus, mace, and lotus and was adorned with the Śārṅga bow. Moonlike rays streamed from the nails of his lotus feet, red as tender leaves.

Passage 3

मणिमाणिक्यमञ्जीरराजहंसनिषेवितः। सरत्नकिङ्किणीजालनतगुल्फयुगान्वितः॥३॥

“Jeweled anklets attended his feet like royal swans, and networks of gem-set bells curved around his two ankles.

सुसूक्ष्मकटिनिर्बद्धपीताम्बरसमावृतः। रत्नकाञ्चीगुणोन्नद्धकटिसूत्रविराजितः॥४॥

“A yellow garment was finely bound around his slender waist, which shone with a waistband raised by strands of jeweled girdles.

Passage 5

सरिदावर्तगम्भीरनाभीपङ्कजभूषितः। वलित्रयसुशोभाढ्यः सिंहविक्रमणोदरः॥५॥

“His deep lotus navel resembled a river whirlpool, his abdomen was adorned with three graceful folds, and his waist bore the majesty of a lion.

Passage 6

रोमराजिलताशालिचित्रभः सोदरोदरः। श्रीवत्सवक्षाः श्रीसङ्गवामपार्श्वविराजितः॥६॥

“A lovely vine-like line of hair decorated his abdomen. The Śrīvatsa marked his chest, and Śrī's presence beautified his left side.

Passage 7

भृगुपादमहाराशिमहापादविभूषितः। कण्ठासक्तमहाज्योतिःकौस्तुभाख्यविराजितः॥७॥

“His great chest bore the celebrated mark of Bhṛgu's foot, and the brilliant jewel named Kaustubha shone at his throat.

पीताम्बरपरीधानो वनमालाविभूषितः। मधुरस्नेहविस्मेरपूर्णचन्द्रसमाननः॥८॥

“Clad in yellow silk and adorned with a forest garland, his face resembled the full moon, smiling with tender affection.

Passage 9

करुणार्णवकल्लोलहृत्तरङ्गप्रभावितः। रत्नमाणिक्यकुन्दादिपराभवद्रदप्रभः॥९॥

“His heart surged with waves from an ocean of compassion, and the radiance of his teeth surpassed jewels, rubies, jasmine, and every other white brilliance.

Passage 10

सुवर्णसूत्रोपवीती स्फुरन्मकरकुण्डलः। परिणद्धवृषस्कन्धस्तालव्रांशुर्महाप्रभुः॥१०॥

“He wore a golden sacred thread and flashing makara-shaped earrings. The mighty Lord's broad shoulders were firm like a bull's, and his arms were long as palm trunks.

Passage 11

कुण्डलच्छविसन्दोहचुरिताच्छकपोलभाः। बिम्बाधरप्रभाशोणदशनेन्दुसितप्रभः॥११॥

“The gathered light of his earrings played across his clear cheeks. His lips glowed red as bimba fruit and his moonlike teeth shone white.

राकानिशागमद्योतपराभवपरायणः। रत्नमालासमाबद्धधम्मिलमधुराकृतिः॥१२॥

“His radiance surpassed the coming of a full-moon night, and jeweled strands bound his sweetly formed topknot.

स्फुरन्मकरिकापत्रललाटार्धनिशाकरः। नासामणिमनोज्ञश्रीर्भ्रूचापशरलोचनः॥१३॥

“A shining makarikā ornament formed a half-moon upon his forehead. A jewel beautified his nose, while his brows were bows and his eyes their arrows.

Passage 14

प्रसन्नः पुण्डरीकाक्षो वामाङ्गश्रीविभूषितः। मुक्ताहारसमालम्बी वैजयन्तीभरान्वितः॥१४॥

“The serene lotus-eyed Lord was adorned by Śrī upon his left side, with hanging pearl necklaces and the abundant Vaijayantī garland.

Passage 15

मलयागुरुकाश्मीरचन्दनालेपसुन्दरः। ईदृशं तं समालोक्य कोटिकन्दर्पसुन्दरम्॥१५॥

“He was beautified by ointments of Malaya sandal, aloe, saffron, and fragrant paste. I gazed upon him, more beautiful than ten million gods of love.

Passage 16

मोहिता कामभावेन नाहं वक्तुं क्षमाभवम्। ततो मां भगवानूचे स्मयमान इदं वचः॥१६॥

“Overwhelmed by loving desire, I could no longer speak. Smiling, the blessed Lord then addressed me. The Lord Grants Her Future Attainment

Passage 17

एष ते दुर्घटो भूरि मनोभिलषितो वरः। यन्मां कामयसे तन्वि वरत्वेन श्रियः पतिम्॥१७॥

The Lord said: “‘Slender maiden, the abundant boon your heart desires is exceedingly difficult: you seek me, the Lord of Śrī, as your bridegroom.

Passage 18

ब्रह्मादयोऽपि मां देवा दास्यत्वेन भजन्ति च। श्रियोऽन्या हि कथं शक्ता लब्धुमीदृग्विधं वरम्॥१८॥

“‘Brahmā and the other gods worship me only in servitude. How could another besides Śrī be capable of obtaining such a bridegroom?

Passage 19

कथं च निष्फलो भूयान्मयि सम्भ्राजितो वरः। तस्मात्सारस्वते कल्पे त्रिंशे त्रेताभिधे युगे॥१९॥

“‘Yet how could a boon earnestly sought from me remain fruitless? Therefore, in the thirtieth Tretā age of the Sārasvata kalpa,

रामावतारे सम्प्राप्य कृतकृत्या भविष्यसि। इयं मे सहजा लक्ष्मीः साक्षाद्वामाङ्गसङ्गिनी॥२०॥

“‘You will attain the Rāma avatāra and become fully fulfilled. This Sahajā Lakṣmī is directly my eternal companion upon my left side.

Passage 21

तया सहितया भूत्वा मम तोषं करिष्यसि। अस्याः सख्यं परिप्राप्य मम सङ्गमवाप्स्यसि॥२१॥

“‘By remaining with her you will bring me delight. After attaining her companionship, you will attain union with me.’

Passage 22

इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे विष्णुः स्वयमन्तर्दधे विभुः। यत्र यत्र भवत्येषा तत्र तत्र भवाम्यहम्॥२२॥

“Having said this, the all-pervading Viṣṇu disappeared. Wherever Sahajā exists, I too am present there.

Passage 23

प्रमोदविपिने चैषा सहजानन्दिनी स्वयम्। प्रमोदविपिने चाहं नन्दिनी नाम तत्सखी॥२३॥

“In Pramodā Forest she herself is Sahajānandinī, while there I am her companion named Nandinī.

Passage 24

इदानीं त्रियुगा नाम जातास्याः सख्यहं नृप। रक्षणीया त्वया भद्र कन्यावन्मिथिलाभूपते॥२४॥

“Now, King, I have appeared as Triyugā, her friend. Noble lord of Mithilā, protect me as you would your own daughter.”
