The fallen rākṣasas are cremated, and Rāma returns to Mount Suvela amid the praise of celestial hosts. Vibhīṣaṇa initially refuses Laṅkā's throne because he desires only service at Rāma's feet; Rāma commands him to rule without delusion and grants him the status of an eighth long-lived sage. Lakṣmaṇa then brings Sītā from the Aśoka grove. She enters the fire, emerges in her divine purity, and rejoins Rāma as heaven and earth proclaim her spotless character.
