Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— अथ रामो हनूमन्तं सुग्रीवं च महाबलम्। आदिदेश महाशैलैः सेतुबन्धनकर्मणे॥१॥
Brahmā said: Rāma then commanded mighty Hanumān and Sugrīva to undertake the work of binding a bridge with great mountains.
Passage 2
महाबल मरुत्पुत्र सुग्रीव कपिनायक। आदिश्यन्ताममी सर्वे कपयो भूरिविक्रमाः॥२॥
“Mighty son of the Wind, and Sugrīva, lord of the monkeys, let all these monkeys of immense prowess be given their orders.
Passage 3
आनयन्तु महाशैलान् क्षिपन्तु पयसां निधौ। सेतुर्विरच्यतामत्र लङ्कागमनहेतवे॥३॥
“Let them bring great mountains and cast them into the ocean. Let a bridge be built here to provide passage to Laṅkā.
Passage 4
महान्तो लघवश्चैव यावन्तो भुवि पर्वताः। आनीयन्ताममीभिस्ते दूरतो वा समीपतः॥४॥
“Let them bring every mountain on earth, great or small, from far away or close at hand.
Passage 5
वोढुं निजबलैः शक्या यावन्तः कपिपुङ्गवैः। गिरयो योजनायामा योजनद्वयविस्तृताः॥५॥
“Let the foremost monkeys carry whatever their own strength permits—mountains a yojana long and two yojanas wide;
Passage 6
त्रिचतुःपञ्चषट्सप्तयोजना अष्टयोजनाः। नवयोजनविस्तीर्णा दशयोजनविस्तृताः॥६॥
“mountains measuring three, four, five, six, seven, or eight yojanas, and those extending nine or ten yojanas.
Passage 7
एकादशद्वादशादियोजनाः शतयोजनाः। उत्पाट्योत्पाट्य ते शैला आनीयन्तां महोदधौ॥७॥
“Let those mountains measuring eleven, twelve, and more—even a hundred yojanas—be uprooted one after another and brought to the great ocean.
Passage 8
अप्रमेयबलो लोके वायुपुत्र महाबल। येऽन्यैर्न वोढुं शक्यास्तानानय त्वं महीधरान्॥८॥
“Mighty son of the Wind, your strength in this world is immeasurable. You bring the mountains that no one else can carry.
Passage 9
उच्चावचैस्ते गिरिभिः समीकृत्य विरच्यताम्। महासेतुः पयोराशौ यावत्सा रक्षसां पुरी॥९॥
“Level those mountains of differing heights and construct a great bridge across the ocean as far as the demons' city.”

इत्यादेशं रघुपतेः शिरसाऽऽदाय वानराः। सज्जाः सर्वेऽपि शैलानां समानयनकर्मणे॥१०॥
Receiving Rāma's command upon their heads, all the monkeys made themselves ready for the work of gathering the mountains. Hanumān and the Monkeys Carry Mountains
Passage 11
सुग्रीवेण कपीन्द्रेण समादिष्टा वनेचराः। अष्टदिक्षु प्रचलिताः शैलानानेतुमुत्वराः॥११॥
Commanded by Sugrīva, king of the monkeys, the forest dwellers hastened into all eight directions to bring mountains.
Passage 12
तेषां वायुसुतो वीरः श्रीमान् भूरिपराक्रमः। आदेशाद्रघुनाथस्य गिरीनानेतुमव्रजत्॥१२॥
Among them, the heroic son of the Wind, glorious and immensely valiant, departed at Rāma's command to bring mountains.
Passage 13
रक्तकक्षोटकधरो महामल्ल इवोद्धुरः। उत्पाट्य नानादेशेभ्य उवाह महतो गिरीन्॥१३॥
Wearing a red wrestler's loincloth and towering like a great champion, he uprooted and bore away enormous mountains from many regions.
Passage 14
स्रवन्निर्झरधाराढ्याः शृङ्गवन्तः सगद्रुमाः। सकन्दराः सगहनाः शिलासंघविचित्रिताः॥१४॥
They were rich with streaming waterfalls, crowned with peaks and trees, filled with caves and dense forests, and variegated with masses of rock.
Passage 15
नानाधातुरसोपेताः सानुभिर्गगनस्पृशः। अनेकयोजनायामाः सवृक्षवनकाननाः॥१५॥
They abounded in the essences of many minerals; their tablelands touched the sky, their extent covered many yojanas, and they bore trees, woods, and forests.
Passage 16
नानानिकुञ्जसहिता नानाधातुरसाकराः। समूलोत्पाटिताः शैला आनीयन्ते स्म वातिना॥१६॥
Mountains filled with many bowers and mines of varied mineral essences were uprooted with their roots and brought by the Wind's son.
Passage 17
सकृन्निर्धूय बाहुभ्यां महीध्रान् गगनस्पृशः। आदित्यरथचक्रेण निर्धृष्टाग्राननेकशः॥१७॥
With a single shake of his arms he loosened sky-touching mountains whose summits had repeatedly been grazed by the wheel of the sun's chariot.
Passage 18
उवाह शिरसांसाभ्यां कक्षाभ्यां ककुदा तथा। पाणिभ्यां चापि हनुमान् महाबलपराक्रमः॥१८॥
Hanumān, mighty in strength and valor, carried them on his head and shoulders, beneath his arms, upon his back, and in his hands.
Passage 19
पतन्निर्झरधाराभिः शमितोष्मपथिश्रमः। मूलक्षरद्धातुरसनानावर्णविचित्रितः॥१९॥
Their falling waterfall streams cooled his heat and weariness on the way, while mineral juices dripping from their roots painted him in many colors.
Passage 20
अनेकभूरुहच्छायाभिन्नसूर्यकरातपः। उड्डीय व्योममार्गेण त्वरितं स समाययौ॥२०॥
The shade of their many trees broke the sun's scorching rays as he flew swiftly through the sky and arrived.
Passage 21
अलौकिकं बलं तस्य परिच्छेत्तुं क ईश्वरः। गच्छतस्त्वरमाणस्य गिरीनुत्पाट्य बिभ्रतः॥२१॥
Who could measure his supernatural strength as he sped along after uprooting and bearing the mountains?
Passage 22
आगच्छतो निक्षिपतो यथास्थानं पयोनिधौ। अहो तस्य बलं भूरि रामकार्यविधित्सया॥२२॥
How immense was his strength as he came, set each mountain in its place in the ocean, and returned, intent upon accomplishing Rāma's work!
Passage 23
अनेकयोजनायामानवाह्यान् वानरैः परैः। नदीनिर्झरसंयुक्तान् कान्तारवनभूषितान्॥२३॥
He carried mountains many yojanas in extent that the other monkeys could not bear, mountains joined by rivers and waterfalls and adorned with wilderness forests.
Passage 24
नानादुर्गाञ्चितांस्तुङ्गान् नानावर्णशिलान्वितान्। अनेकयोजनैर्मूलैरन्तर्मग्नान् महीतले॥२४॥
They were lofty, marked by many inaccessible places and rocks of varied colors, and their roots plunged many yojanas deep within the earth.
Passage 25
समूलोत्पाटनोद्धतमहानिःस्वनभीषणान्। वित्रस्तसिंहशार्दूलानान्दोलितवनद्रुमान्॥२५॥
Their uprooting raised a tremendous, terrifying roar; their lions and tigers fled in fear, and their forest trees swayed violently.
Passage 26
क्षुभितानेकसत्त्वाढ्यान् दरीगह्वरदुर्गमान्। उड्डीनशरभोलूकगृध्रश्येनकदम्बकान्॥२६॥
Countless creatures upon them were thrown into turmoil; their valleys and caverns were difficult to enter, and flocks of śarabhas, owls, vultures, and hawks took flight.
Passage 27
महावराहमहिषतरक्षुगणसेवितान्। उत्थाप्यैककरेणैव महाद्रीन् सोऽवहद्बली॥२७॥
Those great mountains were inhabited by huge boars, buffaloes, and hyenas; the mighty Hanumān raised and carried them with a single hand.
Passage 28
एवं तेनोह्यमानेभ्यो व्योममार्गेण गच्छता। शैलेभ्यो विक्षताः खण्डाः पतिता अन्तराध्वनि॥२८॥
As he carried them along the path of the sky, broken masses fell from the mountains in mid-journey.
Passage 29
गण्डशैला चरतास्तेभ्यः केचिद्योजनविस्तृताः। धरण्यां चूर्णयामासुर्नानादेशवनद्रुमान्॥२९॥
Some moving boulders that fell from them were a yojana wide; striking the earth, they pulverized forest trees in many regions.
Passage 30
सानवः कटकाश्चैव शिलाः काश्चन विस्तृताः। पतिताः पर्वताग्रेभ्यो भूमिभागानचूर्णयन्॥३०॥
Broad tablelands, slopes, and rocks fell from the mountain summits and crushed entire tracts of ground.
Passage 31
आबद्धरक्तकक्षोटो वहन्नुरोल्बणान् दिवि। शुशुभेऽनेकशिखरः सांध्यमेघ इवोन्नतः॥३१॥
With his red loincloth fastened, Hanumān carried massive peaks through the sky and, bristling with many summits, shone like a towering evening cloud.
Passage 32
अन्येऽपि कपयः शूरा महाबलपराक्रमाः। अन्योन्यविक्रमोत्साहा गर्जन्तः सुमहोद्धताः॥३२॥
The other heroic monkeys, too, were immensely strong and valiant. Inspired by one another's prowess, they roared in tremendous excitement.
Passage 33
उन्मुखद्विविदो दामश्वेतनीलाङ्गदादयः। स्वस्वयूथ्यैः समुदिताः सर्वेऽपि सुमहाबलाः॥३३॥
Unmukha, Dvivida, Dāma, Śveta, Nīla, Aṅgada, and the others assembled with their respective companies, all of them exceedingly powerful.
Passage 34
महाभुजा महाकाया महोत्साहकृतोद्यमाः। उत्पाट्य नानादेशेभ्य आनयन् पर्वतोत्तमान्॥३४॥
Great-armed and immense in body, they applied themselves with fierce enthusiasm, uprooting the finest mountains from many lands and bringing them in.
Passage 35
गिरयो ये समीपस्थास्त आनीता महाबलैः। ततो दूरात्समानीताः सुमहाजवशालिभिः॥३५॥
The powerful monkeys first brought the mountains that stood nearby; then, with tremendous speed, they fetched others from far away.
Passage 36
अवहन् शिरसा सर्वे गिरीनुच्चावचान् बहून्। रामदत्तबलोपेता जविनो वानरोत्तमाः॥३६॥
Endowed with strength bestowed by Rāma, the swift foremost monkeys carried many mountains, high and low, upon their heads.
Passage 37
ऋक्षेशो जाम्बवान्नाम महाकायो महाबलः। वृद्धोऽपि स्वामिनः कार्ये युवेव स निरीक्ष्यते॥३७॥
Jāmbavān, lord of the bears, was immense in body and strength. Though old, he appeared young when engaged in his master's work.
Passage 38
प्रावृषेण्यघनाकारस्निग्धश्यामलविग्रहः। आत्मयूथ्यैर्महादृक्षैः सहितोऽद्रीनुपानयत्॥३८॥
His smooth dark body resembled a rain cloud; accompanied by the great bears of his own company, he brought mountains forward. The Mountains Are Torn from the Earth
Passage 39
दिगन्तेभ्यः समानिन्युः पर्वतान् सुमहायतान्। नानासानुदरीवेश्मगह्वरद्रुमसंकुलान्॥३९॥
From the horizons they brought mountains of enormous extent, crowded with many plateaus, valleys, cavernous dwellings, and trees.
Passage 40
धरणीं रञ्जयामासुस्तेभ्योऽखण्डनिपातिभिः। गैरिकाद्यैः सुनिबिडमहाधातुगणद्रवैः॥४०॥
Unbroken streams of ochre and other dense mineral liquids fell from them and colored the earth.
Passage 41
नानावर्णाः कपिवरा लिप्ताः पर्वतधातुभिः। सांध्या इवाभ्रनिवहाः पर्यशोभन्त वर्त्मनि॥४१॥
Smeared with the mountains' minerals, the foremost monkeys took on many colors and shone along the road like masses of evening clouds.
Passage 42
प्रावृषेण्यघनश्यामा ऋक्षमल्ला महाजवाः। सांध्यैरिवार्ककिरणैर्लिप्ताः पर्वतधातुभिः॥४२॥
The mighty, swift bears were dark as rain clouds and, stained by mountain minerals, seemed bathed in the sun's evening rays.
Passage 43
पर्यशोभन्त गगने संचरन्तो महाबलाः। अनायासोद्वोढमहाशैलभाराः सहस्रशः॥४३॥
Thousands of immensely strong monkeys moved through the sky, shining as they effortlessly bore the weight of great mountains.
Passage 44
गच्छतामागच्छतां च वहतां धरणीधरान्। सिन्धौ निक्षिपतां वेगात्तथैव प्रतिगच्छताम्॥४४॥
They went and returned, bearing mountains, casting them swiftly into the ocean, and immediately setting out again.
Passage 45
शैलान् समुत्पाटयतां व्याधूय पृथुदोर्बलैः। सम्मर्दः सुमहानासीत्कपीनामनुगर्जताम्॥४५॥
As they shook and uprooted mountains with the strength of their broad arms, a tremendous crush arose among the roaring monkeys.
Passage 46
सम्भ्रमः सुमहानासीत्तेषामथ परस्परम्। अहं पूर्वमहं पूर्वमिति वर्त्मनि धावताम्॥४६॥
Great commotion arose among them as they raced along the road, each crying, “I will be first! I will be first!”
Passage 47
आमूलोत्पाट्यमानेभ्य आधूयाधूय वानरैः। चलायमानशृङ्गेभ्यो ध्रियमाणेभ्य उच्चकैः॥४७॥
The monkeys shook the mountains again and again as they tore them up from the roots and bore their swaying peaks high aloft.
Passage 48
आकम्पितवनश्रेणिधुतवृक्षेभ्य एव च। पर्वतेभ्यो निपतिताः समन्तादवनीतले॥४८॥
From the mountains whose forest rows trembled and whose trees were shaken, things fell on every side across the ground:
Passage 49
फलानां च दलानां च पुष्पाणां दृषदामपि। महाधातुरसानां च वृष्टयः परितो दिशम्॥४९॥
showers of fruit, leaves, flowers, and stones, together with streams of rich mineral essences, rained throughout the directions.
Passage 50
महौषधीनां दिव्यानां ज्वलन्तीनां निशागमे। मणिमाणिक्यरत्नानां सरिन्निर्झरपाथसाम्॥५०॥
Divine herbs that shine at night, jewels, rubies, gems, and the waters of rivers and waterfalls also poured down.
Passage 51
आच्छादितं महीपृष्ठं ताभिर्वर्त्मनि वर्त्मनि। पशवः पक्षिणश्चैव भ्रममाणाः क्षतौकसः॥५१॥
They covered the earth's surface all along the way, while animals and birds wandered bewildered, their homes destroyed.
Passage 52
आक्रन्दं चक्रिरे भूरि सुमहारवभीषणाः। समूलोत्पाटितानां च पर्वतानां सहस्रशः॥५२॥
They raised dreadful, mighty cries amid the thousands of mountains that had been uprooted entire.
Passage 53
अन्त्राणीव व्यदृश्यन्त मूललग्नानि कोटिशः। धातुद्रवजलान्यद्धा क्षरन्ति प्रक्षरन्ति च॥५३॥
Countless roots exposed to view resembled entrails, while liquid minerals and waters streamed and poured from them.
Passage 54
केचिच्च पर्वतवराः समूलोत्पाटनक्षताः। दरीमुखेभ्यः ससृजुर्महान्तं भीममारवम्॥५४॥
Some noble mountains, wounded by being torn out from their roots, emitted a tremendous, terrible cry from the mouths of their caves.
Passage 55
असह्योत्पाटनोद्धतपीडासंव्याप्तविग्रहाः। चकम्पिरे गिरिवराः शिरोभिरिव सानुभिः॥५५॥
Their bodies overcome by the unbearable pain of violent uprooting, the great mountains trembled with their plateaus as though shaking their heads.
Passage 56
आकल्पस्थितिसंवासयमुमुक्षव आतुराः। क्रन्दन्तः पीडया भूरि दरीमुखकृतारवाः॥५६॥
Distressed at being forced to abandon the homes they had occupied since the beginning of the age, they cried intensely in pain through their cavern mouths.
Passage 57
उत्पाटिता हठात्तेऽपि बलाढ्येन हनूमता। क्षरत्क्षतजसम्पृक्ता निर्यद्धातुरसद्रवाः॥५७॥
Even those mountains were forcibly uprooted by mighty Hanumān; they streamed with the blood of their wounds and exuded liquid mineral essences.
Passage 58
जवादुत्पाट्यमानानां केषांचिदवनीभृताम्। सजीवानां समभवत्त्रैलोक्यव्यापनो रवः॥५८॥
As certain living mountains were uprooted at speed, their cry spread through all three worlds.
Passage 59
आनीता बलिभिः कैश्चित्पर्वताः कोटिसानवः। लिखन्तः सानुभिर्व्योम मूलैः पातालसंस्पृशः॥५९॥
Some powerful monkeys brought mountains with millions of tablelands, their heights scoring the sky and their roots touching the netherworld. Nala Begins Laying the Bridge
Passage 60
आनीतान् सुमहावेगैस्तैर्गिरीन् गगनोच्छ्रितान्। आदायैककरेणैव न्यक्षिपन्नीरधौ नलः॥६०॥
Nala took in one hand the sky-towering mountains brought at tremendous speed and cast them into the ocean.
Passage 61
यथा कारुः प्रयत्नतो यथास्थानं शिलागणान्। तथैव पर्वतांस्तुङ्गान् शतयोजनविस्तृतान्॥६१॥
Just as a craftsman carefully places groups of stones in their proper positions, so Nala handled lofty mountains a hundred yojanas wide.
Passage 62
यथास्थानं युनक्त्येष समादायैकपाणिना। परेण पाणिना कांश्चिदधिकान्निरकृन्तत॥६२॥
Taking them in one hand, he fitted each into its proper position; with the other hand he cut away whatever portions were excessive.
Passage 63
यथादेशं यथास्थानं यथाभागं यथायति। बबन्ध पर्वतैः सेतुं नलो नाम कपीश्वरः॥६३॥
According to direction, place, and allotted portion, as the work advanced, the monkey lord named Nala bound the mountains into a bridge.
Passage 64
प्रददौ हनुमांस्तस्मै शैलान् सूर्यरथस्पृशः। तदीयतुरगोत्कीर्णशृङ्गाग्रान् दृषदो यथा॥६४॥
Hanumān supplied him mountains that touched the sun's chariot, their summits scored by its horses as though they were mere stones.
Passage 65
अनायासं समुद्धृत्य करेणैकेन मारुतिः। स तान् युयोज जलधौ तथैवादाय पाणिना॥६५॥
The son of the Wind effortlessly lifted them with a single hand, and Nala likewise took them in his hand and joined them together in the ocean.
Passage 66
दक्षेण पाणिना चैव छित्त्वा छित्त्वाधिकांशकान्। चतुरस्रान् समीकृत्य निचिक्षेप पयोनिधौ॥६६॥
With his right hand he repeatedly cut away excess portions, made the mountains square and even, and cast them into the ocean.
Passage 67
पूर्वं तु कतिचित्क्षिप्ताः पर्वताः सुमहोन्नताः। न्यमज्जन् नीरधेर्नीरे आपातालतलस्पृशि॥६७॥
At first, however, several very lofty mountains that were thrown in sank through the ocean's water until they touched the floor of the netherworld.
Passage 68
ततश्चिन्तामवापैष नलो नाम कपीश्वरः। हनूमन्तमुवाचाथ विषण्ण इव चेतसा॥६८॥
The monkey lord Nala then became worried and spoke to Hanumān with a dejected heart:

कियद्यावदहं शैलैः पूरयामि पयोनिधिम्। निक्षिप्तमात्रा लीयन्ते यदिहानेकपर्वताः॥६९॥
“How long and how far must I fill the ocean with mountains, when so many disappear here as soon as they are cast in?
Passage 70
कतिभिः पर्वतैरेष सिन्धुर्यास्यति पूर्णताम्। मन्ये भूरिगभीरोऽयमापातालतलावधिः॥७०॥
“With how many mountains will this ocean ever become full? I believe it is immensely deep, extending down to the netherworld's floor.
Passage 71
ततोऽस्य पूरणे यत्नः कथं कार्यो मरुत्सुत। सुहृदित्थं विषीदामि कथं सेतुश्च सेत्स्यति॥७१॥
“How, then, can we undertake to fill it, son of the Wind? My friend, I despair—how will the bridge ever be completed?” Hanumān Reveals the Power of Rāma's Name
Passage 72
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा हनूमानाह सत्वरम्। किंचिद्विहस्य सप्रेम रामनामप्रभाववित्॥७२॥
Hearing his words, Hanumān—who knew the power of Rāma's name—smiled slightly with affection and replied at once:
Passage 73
सत्यं गभीरः पयसां निधानभूतोऽयमब्धिर्ध्रुवमप्रमेयः। पाताललोकावधिसप्तलोकनिधानभूता धरणी किलास्मिन्॥७३॥
“It is true: this ocean is deep, the repository of the waters, and unquestionably immeasurable. Within it lies the earth, which supports the seven worlds and extends down to the realm of Pātāla.
Passage 74
न भूमिमाश्रित्य समुद्र एष समुद्रमाश्रित्य परिस्थिता भूः। अगाधमेतज्जलमप्रमेयमेकत्वमाप्तं सरयूजलेन॥७४॥
“The ocean does not rest upon the earth; the earth stands supported by the ocean. This water is bottomless and immeasurable, and it is one with the waters of the Sarayū.
Passage 75
न पर्वतैरेष हि पूरणीयो नलास्य विद्धि त्वममेयमम्भः। कः पूरयेत्कल्पशतेन सिन्धुं ततो भवेद्व्यर्थतमः प्रयत्नः॥७५॥
“Nala, this ocean cannot be filled with mountains; know its waters to be immeasurable. Who could fill the ocean in a hundred cosmic ages? Such an effort would therefore be utterly futile.
Passage 76
एकं तु निश्चित्य वदाम्युपायं शीघ्रं विरच्येत यथैव सेतुः। प्रयोजनं नो नहि सिन्धुपूर्तौ सेतोर्विधाने वयमात्तयत्नाः॥७६॥
“I will tell you one certain means by which the bridge may quickly be made. Our purpose is not to fill the ocean; our effort is directed toward constructing a bridge.
Passage 77
इदं सुगोप्यं भवते वदामि प्रसंगतः सेतुनिबन्धनेऽस्मिन्। न वाच्यमेतद्भवता परस्मै भक्त्योपसन्नाय तु वाच्यमेव॥७७॥
“In connection with building this bridge, I shall tell you something deeply secret. You must not disclose it to another, except to one who approaches with devotion.
Passage 78
रामेति मन्त्रं कवयो वदन्ति यद्द्व्यक्षरं नाम रघूद्वहस्य। अस्मत्प्रभोरस्य महामहिम्नो मनुष्यलिङ्गस्य परस्य पुंसः॥७८॥
“The sages call the two-syllabled name of the scion of Raghu—Rāma—a mantra. It belongs to our supremely glorious Lord, the transcendent Person who bears a human form.
Passage 79
तदेव सम्यग्विलिखोऽल्पबुद्धे प्रत्यद्रिपाषाणशिलासु तावत्। भवाम्बुधिं येन जनास्तरन्ति किं तारणं दुष्करमस्य तेषाम्॥७९॥
“Write that name clearly upon every mountain, boulder, and stone, simple-minded friend. People cross the ocean of worldly existence through it—what difficulty could there be in carrying these across?
Passage 80
ग्राव्णां गणेभ्योऽपि जनस्य पापान्यतीव भारेण समाकुलानि। लघूक्रियन्ते मनुजा यदेतैर्भृशं विलुप्तैरिह तन्न चित्रम्॥८०॥
“A person's sins are burdened by a weight greater even than masses of stone. If people become light when those sins are utterly erased by this name, there is nothing astonishing in that.
Passage 81
इदं मतं मे भृशमाददानः संतारय ग्रावगणान् पयोधौ। ततो विनिर्माय सुखेन सेतुं लङ्कां परिप्रापय रामसेनाम्॥८१॥
“Embrace this counsel of mine completely and make the masses of stone cross the ocean. Then build the bridge with ease and carry Rāma's army all the way to Laṅkā.
Passage 82
सद्यस्तव प्रत्यय एष भूयान्नल स्वमुक्त्यै च परस्य मुक्त्यै। अज्ञानसंज्ञां हृदयस्य गाढां ग्रन्थिं विनिर्भिद्य सुखं प्रयाहि॥८२॥

इति स तदुपदिष्टं वाक्यमाकर्ण्य सद्यो मनसि कपिवरेण्यो विस्मितः सम्बभूव। रघुपरिवृढनाम्नो भूरि जिज्ञासमानः किमपि स महिमानं भूय एनं बभाषे॥८३॥
Hearing the teaching in Hanumān's words, that foremost monkey was at once filled with wonder. Eager to know still more of the glory of the exalted Raghu lord's name, Nala addressed him again.
