Passage 1
मुनय ऊचुः— स्त्रीत्वं वा पुंस्त्वमेवापि कामयानः स्वतन्त्रधीः। नायं पर्यनुयोगार्हः कामं दातुं ननु त्वया॥१॥
The sages said: “A self-governing person who desires either womanhood or manhood does not deserve reproach; surely your role is to grant the desire.
Passage 2
भजते येन भावेन भवन्तं भजनीयकम्। भजस्व तं तथा राम त्वं कल्पतरुसन्निभः॥२॥
“In whatever disposition someone worships you, the worthy object of worship, respond to that person in the same way, O Rāma, for you resemble a wish-fulfilling tree.
Passage 3
अथ नो राम रसिक यदाह गुणवद्भवान्। प्रमोदवनकान्तास्ताः कथं न तदुदाहरत्॥३॥
“O Rāma, connoisseur of rasa, if what you have just said is sound, why did you not say it concerning those beloved women of Pramoda forest?
Passage 4
यदात्थ स्त्रीं सावद्यं त्वमनवद्यौघमार्जनः। तन्नास्माकं वचो योग्यं मनवद्यपदस्पृहाम्॥४॥
“You, who wash away multitudes of faults, have called womanhood blameworthy. Such speech is not fitting for us, who long for your faultless feet.
Passage 5
विसस्मार किमेवं वाग्भवानात्मवचोऽमृतम्। यदुदीरितमस्मभ्यं भवता रासमण्डले॥५॥
“Have you forgotten the nectar of your own words, spoken to us within the circle of the rāsa?
Passage 6
वितीर्णोऽपि त्वया नाथ सर्वकामफलो वरः। स्मारितस्तव तेनार्थव्यासक्तस्य वराककैः॥६॥
“Lord, you already granted us a boon bearing the fruit of every desire. We poor ones, absorbed in its meaning, have merely reminded you.
Passage 7
अधुनापि किमेवं ते निर्बन्ध इव दृश्यते। जन्मान्तरेऽपि भाव्यर्थो भावनीयो न किं प्रभो॥७॥
“Why does this resistance still appear in you? Lord, should not an end destined for another birth still be contemplated now?
Passage 8
अथ सर्वज्ञमौलेस्ते दत्तस्याप्यनुनाथनम्। अचिरेणैव दानाय कृतमस्माभिरार्तकैः॥८॥
“O crown of the omniscient, we suffering sages have pleaded for the boon you already gave only so that it might be bestowed without delay.” Rāma Directs Them to Sītā
Passage 9
श्रीराम उवाच— साधु संस्मारितो मेऽद्य वितीर्णो वो वरो ह्ययम्। मया प्रमोदवनस्त्रीभिः खेलता रासमण्डले॥९॥
Śrī Rāma said: “Well done. Today you have reminded me of the boon I granted you while sporting with the women of Pramoda forest in the rāsa circle.
Passage 10
सुदुर्घटोऽप्यसावर्थो भवतां सम्भविष्यति। अनुमोदितमात्रस्तु महिष्या मे किलानया॥१०॥
“Though its fulfillment is extremely difficult, it will come to pass for you, provided that this queen of mine gives her approval.
Passage 11
मया दत्तोऽप्यसावर्थः प्रार्थनीयो मुहुर्द्विजाः। एतस्या मे परानन्दस्वामिन्या अधुना रहः॥११॥
“Twice-born sages, although I granted this end, you must now privately petition her, the sovereign of my supreme bliss.”
Passage 12
इत्युक्तास्तेऽग्नितनया द्विजन्मानो महात्मना। राघवेन्द्रेण वै सीतासापेक्षाखिलवृत्तिना॥१२॥
Thus the fire-born brāhmaṇas were instructed by great Rāghavendra, whose every action depended upon Sītā.
Passage 13
ज्ञात्वा तामेव निखिलकार्यसिद्धीश्वरीं प्रभोः। प्रेयसीमनवद्याङ्गीमस्तौषुः परमार्थतः॥१३॥
Recognizing the faultlessly beautiful beloved as the sovereign who fulfills all the Lord's purposes, they praised her in truth. Their Prayer to Sītā
Passage 14
मुनय ऊचुः— त्वमेव सर्वकार्येशी रामस्य परमात्मनः। अतस्त्वामेव शरणं प्रपन्नाः स्मो निरन्तरम्॥१४॥
The sages said: “You alone govern every purpose of Rāma, the Supreme Self. Therefore we have taken refuge in you alone forever.
Passage 15
त्वमेव देवि रामस्य विश्वेशस्य महात्मनः। पुरोऽस्मान् रह आनन्दे संस्मारय शुभाप्तये॥१५॥
“Goddess, when the private bliss of great Rāma, Lord of the universe, unfolds, remember us so that we may attain auspicious fulfillment.
Passage 16
करावलम्बनं मातः कारयास्मान्निजेशितुः। त्वदधीनः किलैषोऽस्मान्न त्यक्ष्यति कथञ्चन॥१६॥
“Mother, cause your own Lord to give us the support of his hand. He is under your sway and therefore will never abandon us.
Passage 17
महतीं मोचयास्माकमार्तानां विरहापदम्। यथा कथञ्चिद्धेह्यस्मान्निजे परिकरे सति॥१७॥
“Free us, afflicted as we are, from the vast calamity of separation. By whatever means, place us among your own attendants.
Passage 18
त्वं देवि महनीयासि महतोऽस्य महात्मनः। एकधानेकधा चामुं रमयस्यभितो रमे॥१८॥
“Goddess, you are the glorious power of this great Supreme Being. O Ramā, both as one and in many forms, you delight him on every side.
Passage 19
यथा त्वमाभीरवधूः प्रसादतः सदान्वगृह्णाविरहादिभोगिनीः। तथैव नः षष्ठिसहस्रसङ्ख्यकान् द्विजान् स्वदृष्ट्यानुगृहाण जानकि॥१९॥
“Just as you continually favor the cowherd women who experience separation and union, so, Jānakī, favor with your glance us sixty thousand brāhmaṇas.
Passage 20
त्वमेव सहजानन्दा श्रीनन्दनसमुद्भवा। रक्ताशोकलतासद्मनिवासमुदिताशया॥२०॥
“You alone are Sahajānandā, manifested in the house of Śrīnandana, your heart delighted while dwelling in the bower of red aśoka vines.
Passage 21
त्वमेव परमा लक्ष्मीर्जगत्त्रयविभूषिणी। त्वामाराधयतां नॄणां न भवन्ति मनोरुजः॥२१॥
“You alone are the supreme Lakṣmī, ornament of the three worlds. Those who worship you suffer no affliction of mind.
Passage 22
कथय निजदयां नो भूरिविश्लेषदुःखं यदपनयति कारुण्याकरस्ते प्रियोऽसौ। सदयमनिशमस्मानाविश त्वं परा श्रीर्विचलति तव भर्तुर्नैकपत्नीव्रतं यत्॥२२॥
“Show us your compassion, which removes the great pain of separation, and let your beloved, the treasury of mercy, favor us. Supreme Śrī, graciously enter our hearts always, for your husband's vow of one wife cannot be altered without you.”
Passage 23
इति संस्तुवतो विप्रान् मुनीनग्नेः कुमारकान्। सीता कृपाकटाक्षेण वीक्षाञ्चक्रे कृपावती॥२३॥
As the fire-born brāhmaṇa sages praised her, compassionate Sītā looked upon them with a merciful sidelong glance. The Future Fulfillment
Passage 24
अथ रामोऽब्रवीद्विप्रान् सिद्धं वः कामितं द्विजाः। अस्याः कृपाकटाक्षेण तद्गच्छत निजाश्रमान्॥२४॥
Then Rāma said: “Twice-born sages, by her merciful glance your desire is fulfilled. Return now to your respective hermitages.
Passage 25
आगामिनि विधौ प्राप्य कल्पं सारस्वतं द्विजाः। अनुग्रहाय वो नूनं सङ्गं दाताहमात्मना॥२५॥
“When the coming Sārasvata age arrives, I shall certainly grant you my personal company as a blessing.
Passage 26
प्रमोदविपिने रम्ये सरय्वां वै तपोधनाः। अनेनैव स्वरूपेण रमयिष्यामि वो ध्रुवम्॥२६॥
“Treasures of austerity, in lovely Pramoda forest beside the Sarayū, I shall surely delight you in this very form.
Passage 27
तावत्तपस्यत योगीन्द्राः कायवाक्चित्तशोधनम्। दण्डकारण्यमध्यस्थाः यूयं सुविपुलं तपः॥२७॥
“Until then, great yogins, remain in Daṇḍakāraṇya and practice abundant austerity that purifies body, speech, and mind.
Passage 28
हित्वा गुणमयान् देहांस्तत ऊर्ध्वं मत्सविधोचितम्। स्त्रीभावमेत्य सर्वेऽपि यूयं मां समवाप्स्यथ॥२८॥
“After abandoning bodies made of material qualities, all of you will assume a feminine devotional form suited to nearness with me and will attain me.
Passage 29
इति वः पूर्वमप्युक्तं मया किल रासमण्डले। अधैर्याद्विरहोद्भूतात्पुनरप्यागताः स्थ माम्॥२९॥
“I already told you this within the rāsa circle. Yet impatience born of separation has brought you back to me.”
Passage 30
इमां देवीमाराधयत मदभेदेन सततं परप्रेम्णा साक्षात्परमसहजानन्दवपुषम्। कृपादृष्ट्यैवास्याः परिणतमनःकाम्यविषयाः सुसिद्धाशेषार्थाः सपदि परमां प्राप्स्यथ मुदम्॥३०॥
“Continually worship this goddess, whose form is supreme Sahajānandā and who is nondifferent from me, with the highest love. By her merciful glance your matured inward desire will be fulfilled; every purpose accomplished, you will immediately attain supreme joy.”
Passage 31
इति भूयः सुविश्वस्ता लब्धकामवरा द्विजाः। प्रणम्य सीतां रामं च स्वानि स्वान्याश्रमाण्यगुः॥३१॥
Thus fully reassured and having received the boon they desired, the brāhmaṇas bowed to Sītā and Rāma and returned to their respective hermitages. Thus ends Chapter 134, “Rāma's Reassurance to the Fire-born Sages,” in the dialogue of Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍi in the Dakṣiṇa-khaṇḍa of the glorious Ādi Rāmāyaṇa.
