Chapter context and opening material

Rāma suddenly vanishes from the sight of his companions from Vraja. Overcome by separation, they search Citrakūṭa's caves, groves, peaks, and riverbanks, then appeal to Atri for help. The sage praises their single-hearted love and teaches them to recognize Rāma as the Supreme Person dwelling within and without every being. He also explains Rāma's mission through Daṇḍaka, the coming destruction of Rāvaṇa, and Hanumān's future service, thereby steadying their grief. Rāma Disappears
