Chapter context and opening material

After spending the night at Atri's hermitage, Rāma thanks the sage for his grace toward Sītā and the whole family. He promises that Rāvaṇa will fall by his own accumulated sin, then asks permission to continue to his forest dwelling. Atri cannot bear the thought of separation, so Rāma teaches him to behold the all-pervading Lord within the self—in any divine form or beyond all qualities. Rāma then bows to Atri and Anasūyā and departs with Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa. Morning at Atri's Hermitage
