Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— स्वगृहागतमाज्ञाय शेषं नागपुरीपतिम्। आत्मनः श्वसुरं साक्षान्मेघनादः समाययौ॥१॥
Brahmā said: Learning that Śeṣa, lord of the serpent city and his own father-in-law, had come to his home, Meghanāda went to meet him.
Passage 2
रक्षःपतिकुमारेण जामात्रा नागनायकः। अमिलत्परमप्रीतो दोर्भ्यामालिङ्ग्य भूरिशः॥२॥
The serpent lord met his son-in-law, prince of the Rākṣasas, with immense joy and repeatedly embraced him with both arms.
Passage 3
श्वसुरं स्वागताद्यैः स मानयित्वा महामनाः। हृष्यन्निदमुवाचोच्चैस्तत्प्रसादाभिलाषुकः॥३॥
After honoring his father-in-law with words of welcome and the other courtesies, noble Meghanāda joyfully spoke, desiring his favor.
Passage 4
मेघनाद उवाच— अकस्मादुपपन्नं मे यन्नित्यमभिकाङ्क्षितम्। भवतो दर्शनं साक्षात्कल्याणगणभूयसः॥४॥
Meghanāda said: “What I have always longed for has unexpectedly come to me: the direct sight of you, who abound in every auspicious quality.
Passage 5
श्रीमन्नागपुरीनाथ त्वया सम्भालिता जनाः। नित्यं ससुखमेधन्ते धनापत्यगृहादिभिः॥५॥
“Illustrious lord of the serpent city, the people protected by you continually flourish in happiness, wealth, children, homes, and every blessing.
Passage 6
कस्ते न दर्शनं वाञ्छेदरिमङ्गलदायकम्। जनानां गृहमेधीयव्यापारव्याकुलात्मनाम्॥६॥
“Who would not desire your sight, which brings abundant auspiciousness to people whose minds are occupied with household affairs?
Passage 7
यस्मै प्रसीदसि ब्रह्मन् दृशा कल्याणवर्षिणः। स सर्वभुवनेष्वद्धा मान्यते नरपुङ्गवैः॥७॥
“Brahmin, the one whom you favor with your blessing-showering glance is truly honored by eminent men throughout all the worlds.
Passage 8
भव मे वरदः साक्षाद्भूष्णोर्बहुलसम्पदः। निग्रहानुग्रहैकर्तुर्यतः स्वाधीनधीरसि॥८॥
“Be directly the giver of a boon to me so that I may flourish in abundant prosperity, for your independent wisdom alone can restrain or favor.

एतावान्मेऽनुतापश्च त्वत्कृपाभाजनस्य किम्। हृदये स्थास्यति ब्रह्मन् यत्परोत्कर्षदर्शनम्॥९॥
“Brahmin, why should the sorrow of seeing another's superiority remain in the heart of one who has become the vessel of your grace?
Passage 10
जिगीषामि जगत्सर्वं ससुरासुरमानुषम्। केवलं स्वात्मवीर्येण त्वत्कृपासाधनं यदि॥१०॥
“I wish to conquer the entire world of gods, Asuras, and humans through my own valor alone—if that valor can become the instrument of your grace.
Passage 11
भवतः कृपया श्रीमन् सत्सम्बन्धप्रसूतया। किं न जेया मया युद्धे सुरकिन्नरमानुषाः॥११॥
“Illustrious lord, through your grace born of our blessed relationship, what gods, Kinnaras, or humans could I not conquer in battle?
Passage 12
सदैवानुगृहाण त्वमतो मां भगवन् भृशम्। यत इन्द्रपुरीं जित्वा तत्सम्पदमिहानये॥१२॥
“Therefore, revered lord, bestow your full favor upon me so that I may conquer Indra's city and bring its wealth here.
Passage 13
नित्यमाराध्नतां नॄणां भवान् कामवरप्रदः। अत आराधनं कर्तुमिच्छामि तव साम्प्रतम्॥१३॥
“You grant desired boons to those who continually worship you. Therefore I now wish to undertake your worship.
Passage 14
भगवन् भवतो वीर्यं तेजश्चाप्रतिमं भवे। तदेव साधनं भूयान्मम लोकस्य निर्जये॥१४॥
“Revered lord, your power and radiance are unequaled in this world. May that very power become my means for conquering the worlds.
Passage 15
यद्विचिन्त्य मया ध्यातं भगवंस्तव दर्शनम्। तन्मे सुनिश्चितं भूष्णुर्दर्शनेनानुग्रहात्तव॥१५॥
“Lord, the purpose for which I contemplated and sought your sight has now become certain of fulfillment through the grace of seeing you.
Passage 16
इति सम्प्रार्थ्य बहुधा शेषं प्रार्थितसिद्धिदम्। सपर्यया रुचिरया सुस्वागतमथाग्रहीत्॥१६॥
Having petitioned Śeṣa, fulfiller of requests, in many ways, Meghanāda received him with beautiful worship and gracious hospitality. Śeṣa Grants Victory and Sovereignty
Passage 17
सोऽतिप्रसन्नो नागेन्द्रस्तस्मै कामवरं ददौ। जामात्रे भक्तिनम्राय स्वकृतापचितये मुहुः॥१७॥
Highly pleased, the serpent king granted desired boons to his son-in-law, who bowed in devotion and repeatedly rendered him honor.
Passage 18
शेष उवाच— भवान् विजयतां वीर पुरीमिन्द्रस्य दुर्जयाम्। आनयस्व बलाच्चैव बन्दीकृत्य सुरश्रियम्॥१८॥
Śeṣa said: “Hero, may you conquer Indra's unconquerable city and forcibly bring away the fortune of the gods as your captive.
Passage 19
अन्येषां चापि देवानां वसतीस्त्वं महाभुज। बलेनैव पराभूय तच्छ्रियं स्वात्मसात्कुरु॥१९॥
“Mighty-armed one, overpower the abodes of the other gods by force as well and make their prosperity your own.
Passage 20
अनन्यवीरस्त्रैलोक्ये भव सम्प्रति दोर्बलात्। एकराट् च तव ख्यातस्तातो भवतु भूतले॥२०॥
“Through the strength of your arms, become a hero without equal in the three worlds, and let your father be renowned on earth as its sole emperor.
Passage 21
देवानां किन्नराणां च नराणां यक्षरक्षसाम्। सुश्रोण्यश्चन्द्रवक्त्रास्त्वां सेवन्तां प्रतिवासरम्॥२१॥
“May moon-faced, shapely women of the gods, Kinnaras, humans, Yakṣas, and Rākṣasas attend you every day.
Passage 22
किङ्कराः सन्तु ते देवा यक्षगन्धर्वकिन्नराः। ग्रहाः सूर्यादयो नागा नगाश्चैव सविग्रहाः॥२२॥
“May gods, Yakṣas, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, the planets beginning with the Sun, Nāgas, and embodied mountains become your servants.
Passage 23
तत्तल्लोकश्रियः सन्तु सदने तव सन्ततम्। यं यं कामयसे कामं तं तमाप्नुहि मद्गिरा॥२३॥
“May the splendors of all their worlds remain constantly in your dwelling. Through my word, attain every desire that you form.

इन्द्रश्चन्द्रश्च सूर्यश्च शमनो यादसां पतिः। वसवो मरुतश्चैव याश्चान्या गणदेवताः॥२४॥
“May Indra, the Moon, the Sun, Yama, Varuṇa, the Vasus, the Maruts, and all the other hosts of deities—

स्वैः स्वैः परिग्रहैर्युक्तास्तवैव वचसि स्थिताः। उपानच्चामरच्छत्रताम्बूलाम्बरधारणैः॥२५॥
“Together with their respective households, remain obedient to your command, bearing your sandals, fly-whisk, parasol, betel, and garments.

स्नानशय्यासनालेपपानभोजनकल्पनैः। नित्यं परिचरन्तु त्वां त्यक्तवीर्याः सचेतसः॥२६॥

धारितं शिरसा लोकनिर्जयाय रणे रणे। अन्यैश्चासुरराजेन्द्रैर्मानुषेन्द्रैः पुरा युगे॥२८॥
“Who bore it upon his head for the conquest of the worlds in battle after battle; other great Asura kings and human sovereigns also wore it in ancient ages.
Passage 29
धारितं पूजितं चैव भुवनोत्कर्षलब्धये। धारयस्व निजे शीर्षे तादृग्भूष्णुस्त्वमप्युत॥२९॥
“They wore and worshiped it to attain supremacy in the worlds. Place it upon your own head and prosper in the same way.
Passage 30
मन्त्रविद्या च ते वीर सद्यः प्रत्ययदायिनीम्। ददामि यत्प्रभावेण सर्वान् कामानवाप्स्यसि॥३०॥
“Hero, I also give you mantra knowledge that yields immediate proof of its power. Through its influence you will attain every desire.
Passage 31
जप्त्वा मन्त्रमिमं प्राज्ञ पुरश्चर्याविधानतः। होष्यसि प्रचुरैर्हव्यैः समिद्धे जातवेदसि॥३१॥
“Wise one, recite this mantra according to the prescribed preparatory rite, then offer abundant oblations into the kindled fire.

तत उत्थास्यति क्षिप्रं रथः स्वर्णपरिच्छदः। दिव्यायुधगणोपेतः सपताकः सवाहनः॥३२॥
“From that fire a gold-fitted chariot will quickly arise, furnished with hosts of divine weapons, banners, and draft animals.
Passage 33
मेघगम्भीरनिर्घोषः सुरासुरविभीषणः। त्रासनः सर्वलोकानां शब्दमात्रेण भूयसा॥३३॥
“Its rumble will be deep as thunderclouds and terrifying to gods and Asuras; its tremendous sound alone will frighten all the worlds.

तेजसाप्रतिमश्चैव रंहसा चाप्रतीहतः। यमास्थाय भवान् जेता सुरेशं युद्धदुर्मदम्॥३४॥
“Peerless in radiance and irresistible in speed, it will carry you to victory over the lord of the gods, whose battle pride is so difficult to subdue.
Passage 35
तत्रैव रथवर्ये तु दिव्यं चापं तथेषुधी। अक्षयौ बाणपूर्णौ च लब्धासि त्वं महामते॥३५॥
“Within that excellent chariot, noble-minded one, you will obtain a divine bow and two inexhaustible quivers filled with arrows.

तैः शरैः समरेषु त्वां वर्षन्तं रणदुर्दिने। प्रावृषेण्याम्बुधरवत् को नु द्रक्ष्यति सम्मुखे॥३६॥
“When on the dark day of battle you rain those arrows like a monsoon cloud, who will dare face you?
Passage 37
उपशक्रपुरीं प्राप्य दुष्प्रेक्ष्यं त्वां स्वतेजसा। चापज्यां रणयन्तं च ज्ञास्यन्ति सुरयोषितः॥३७॥
“When you reach Indra's city, terrible to behold in your own radiance and making your bowstring resound, the women of heaven will recognize your arrival.

वित्रस्तास्तास्तदा सद्यः पतीनालिङ्ग्य वक्षसि। कर्णौ पिधाय स्थास्यन्ति कथमप्यस्तधैर्यकाः॥३८॥
“Their courage lost, they will immediately embrace their husbands' chests in terror and somehow remain standing with their ears covered.
Passage 39
तासां च पतयस्ते वै सुराः समरकातराः। अशक्तास्तव पुरः स्थातुं देवं प्रार्थ्य कथञ्चन॥३९॥
“Those gods, their husbands, will be terrified of battle and unable to stand before you, though they somehow entreat their deity for aid.
Passage 40
कन्यारत्नानि रत्नानि समादाय करद्वये। बद्धाञ्जलिपुटाः सौम्या उपस्थास्यन्ति भृत्यवत्॥४०॥
“Carrying jewel-like maidens and treasures in both hands, they will approach gently with joined palms like servants.
Passage 41
किं बहूक्तेन वीर्येण मम मन्त्रप्रभावतः। इन्द्रोऽपि भगवान् साक्षात्त्वया योद्धुं न शक्यते॥४१॥
“Why say more? Through my power and the mantra's efficacy, even Lord Indra himself will be unable to fight you.

भवतोऽतिप्रियां चैनां मम पुत्रीं सुलोचनाम्। देव्योऽपि मौलिमणिभी रञ्जयिष्यन्ति पादयोः॥४२॥
“The goddesses themselves will color the feet of my daughter Sulochanā, your most beloved wife, with the jewels upon their crowns.
Passage 43
भुवनेषु तव ख्यातिर्मम प्रीत्यै भविष्यति। इति ते संददाम्यद्धा भूयः कामवरानहम्॥४३॥
“Your renown throughout the worlds will bring me delight. Thus I truly bestow these many desired boons upon you.”

इति स प्रणयात्सुलोचनाया मुदितस्तत्पतये वरान् विशिष्टान्। प्रददौ बहुधा भुजङ्गमेन्द्रः स च तुष्टाव तमुच्चकैश्चिराय॥४४॥
