Chapter context and opening material

The violent churning devastates the ocean's creatures and reduces its plants and herbs into the essence from which nectar will arise. Before the nectar, Surabhi, Uccaiḥśravas, Airāvata, the Pārijāta tree, hosts of Apsarases, and finally Lakṣmī emerge. The sages receive Surabhi, Bali claims the horse, elephant, and tree while the gods wait strategically, and all three worlds prepare Lakṣmī's consecration. The Ocean's Creatures Are Overwhelmed
