Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— गोधनैर्गोष्ठपालैश्च श्रीनन्दनमुपागतम्। आज्ञाय रामो हर्षेण बभूव पुलकावृतः॥१॥
Brahmā said: Learning that Śrīnandana had arrived with the herds and cowherds, Rāma rejoiced and was covered with horripilation.
Passage 2
श्रीनन्दनो गोपवरः सदारस्तनयावृतः। ददर्श चित्रकूटाद्रिं सुखितेनोषितं पुरा॥२॥
Śrīnandana, foremost of cowherds, accompanied by his wife and children, beheld Mount Citrakūṭa, where Sukhita had already taken up residence.
Passage 3
स्थले स्थले गोपकुलैः समाकुलं व्रजाङ्गनागीतनिनादशोभितम्। उदारगोपालकवादितस्वनैः सवेणुशृङ्गादिकृतप्रतिध्वनिम्॥३॥
Every place was filled with cowherd families and beautified by the resonant songs of Vraja's women. The music played by noble cowherds—with flutes, horns, and other instruments—echoed everywhere.
Passage 4
गोष्ठैर्गवां गोपसमूहनिर्मितैः हरिन्महावेतसवंशमण्डपैः। हरिच्छदच्छन्नतमैरुपत्यकासु विस्तृतैः सर्वत एव शोभितम्॥४॥
The foothills shone on every side with cattle stations built by groups of cowherds: broad pavilions of fresh green cane and bamboo, densely roofed with green leaves.
Passage 5
कन्दरासु कृतावासं पुरा गोपैः कुटुम्बिभिः। शुभकोलाहलोपेतगह्वरप्रतिनादितम्॥५॥
Cowherd householders had made homes in the caves, and the mountain hollows echoed with their auspicious bustle.
Passage 6
विचित्रशृङ्गरुचिरं रामप्रासादशोभितम्। पुरा विनिर्मितोत्तुङ्गपर्णशालाकुटीगृहम्॥६॥
Its varied peaks were lovely, and Rāma's palace adorned it. Lofty leaf-halls, cottages, and houses had already been built.
Passage 7
सीताक्रीडनकैश्चित्रमृगैर्विश्वस्तमानसैः। आवृतं चारुचकितैः कूर्दमानैरितस्ततः॥७॥
It was surrounded by Sītā's playmates—beautiful, trusting deer—who bounded gracefully here and there with charming, startled glances.
Passage 8
जानकीमुखचन्द्रांशुपायिनां हृष्टचेतसाम्। चकोराणां समुदयैः सर्वतो मुखरीकृतम्॥८॥
Every side resounded with flocks of delighted cakora birds drinking the rays of the moon of Jānakī's face.
Passage 9
सीताव्रजाङ्गनाशश्वत्केलिकौतुकनादिभिः। नूपुरैः कृतझाङ्कारं राजहंससुखावहम्॥९॥
The anklets of Sītā and the women of Vraja rang through their perpetual, joy-filled play, bringing delight even to the royal swans.
Passage 10
सरोभिः फुल्लनलिनैः शीतलीकृतमारुतम्। मन्दाकिनीमुख्यसरिद्वारिपुष्टमहीरुहम्॥१०॥
Ponds of blooming lotuses cooled the breeze, while the waters of the Mandākinī and other rivers nourished the trees.
Passage 11
व्रजाङ्गनासमाजेन विश्वतो विहितोत्सवम्। कमलेशीमुख्यसखीवृन्दचित्रविचित्रितम्॥११॥
Assemblies of Vraja's women created celebration everywhere, and the groups of companions led by Kamaleśī made the scene wondrously varied.
Passage 12
शृङ्गेभ्योऽवतरन्तीनां जातरूपतनुत्विषाम्। आरोहन्तीनां च पृथगन्यासां चम्पकत्विषाम्॥१२॥
Some women, their bodies shining like gold, descended from the peaks, while others, radiant like campaka blossoms, climbed separately.
Passage 13
समन्ताद्व्रजदेवीनां विचरद्भिः कदम्बकैः। कीर्णनक्षत्रमालाढ्यमिव निस्तिमिरीकृतम्॥१३॥
Groups of Vraja's goddesses moved everywhere, making the mountain seem strewn with garlands of stars and wholly free from darkness.
Passage 14
विकीर्णदिव्यरत्नौघप्रोज्जागरतरद्युतिम्। रामाधिवाससम्पन्नमहामाङ्गल्यमण्डितम्॥१४॥
Scattered masses of celestial jewels gave it a brilliantly wakeful radiance, and Rāma's residence endowed it with the highest auspiciousness.
Passage 15
सर्वर्तुशोभया कीर्णं विस्तीर्णमधिभूनभः। विचित्रकौतुकयुतं स्वर्गस्थानमिवापरम्॥१५॥
Filled with the beauty of every season and extending across earth and sky, it was rich in wondrous delights, like another celestial realm.
Passage 16
लतामण्डपसंकीर्णं विचित्रभवनान्वितम्। सर्वतः पुष्पसन्दोहसौरभ्यलहरीयुतम्॥१६॥
It was crowded with vine pavilions and varied dwellings, while waves of fragrance from masses of flowers flowed on every side. The Families Climb to Meet Rāma

दृष्ट्वा गिरिवरं दूरादाराच्च सकुतूहलम्। रथादवततारैष जायया सुतयान्वितः॥१७॥
Having gazed eagerly upon the excellent mountain from afar and then from near, Śrīnandana descended from the chariot with his wife and daughter.
Passage 18
पुरन्ध्रीभिः समायुक्ता देवी श्रीराजिनी ततः। आरुरोह गिरिं यत्नाद् रघुनाथदिदृक्षया॥१८॥
Then Goddess Śrī Rājinī, accompanied by the women, climbed the mountain eagerly, longing to see Raghunātha.
Passage 19
स्वयं श्रीसहजानन्दा रामाकृष्णादिसङ्गता। जगाम दयितं द्रष्टुं द्योतयन्ती दिशस्त्विषा॥१९॥
Śrī Sahajānandā herself went with Rāmā, Kṛṣṇā, and the other companions to see her beloved, illuminating the directions with her radiance. Rāma Welcomes the Arrivals
Passage 20
रामः सम्प्रेष्य सौमित्रिं पुरस्तात् ससुहृद्गणम्। अत्यादरेण जग्राह सर्वान् साधुसमागतान्॥२०॥
Rāma sent Lakṣmaṇa ahead with a group of friends and then received all the worthy arrivals with the highest honor.
Passage 21
ते रघूद्वहमालोक्य पूर्णचन्द्रमुखं दृशा। सर्वे सुनिर्वृता आसन् गोपाः श्रीनन्दनादयः॥२१॥
When Śrīnandana and the other cowherds saw the scion of Raghu, whose face was a full moon, they all attained profound contentment.
Passage 22
श्रीराजिनीमुखा गोप्यश्चिरेण विरहातुराः। सहजानन्दिनीसख्यः सर्वा आसन् सुनिर्वृताः॥२२॥
The gopīs led by Śrī Rājinī, and all Sahajānandinī's companions who had long suffered separation, likewise became completely fulfilled.
Passage 23
गोष्ठपालाश्च गणशो दृष्ट्वा रामं सुहृत्तमम्। अत्यर्थं मुदिताः सर्वे मयूरा इव वारिदम्॥२३॥
Seeing Rāma, the dearest friend, the assembled cowherds rejoiced exceedingly, like peacocks beholding a raincloud.
Passage 24
परिरभ्य स तान् सर्वानत्युत्कण्ठावशोन्मुखान्। सुखयामास रामेन्दुश्चन्दनेनेव वर्ष्मणा॥२४॥
Moonlike Rāma embraced them all as they raised their faces in overwhelming longing, delighting them with his body as sandal paste delights the limbs.
Passage 25
सम्प्रश्नालिङ्गनालोकसत्कारैर्बहुमानिताः। मनोरथोदधेः पारं सुखमापुर्व्रजौकसः॥२५॥
Greatly honored by his inquiries, embraces, glances, and welcome, the residents of Vraja reached the far shore of the ocean of their longing and found joy. The Two Communities Reunite
Passage 26
महतीं सम्पदं वीक्ष्य चित्रकूटे सीतापतेः। रमावासं सुसञ्जातं मेने श्रीनन्दनस्तदा॥२६॥
Seeing the great splendor of Sītā's lord at Citrakūṭa, Śrīnandana thought the place had become a true abode of Lakṣmī.
Passage 27
वनश्रियं समालोक्य सर्वर्तुसुखदायिनीम्। प्रमोदविपिनस्यांशं मुमुदे गोपपुङ्गवः॥२७॥
Beholding the forest beauty that bestowed happiness in every season, the foremost cowherd rejoiced, recognizing it as a portion of Pramoda-vana.
Passage 28
सुखितेन स सङ्गम्य गोपराजेन धीमता। सुखितोऽभूद्विशेषेण तत्र श्रीनन्दनेश्वरः॥२८॥
Meeting wise Sukhita, king of the cowherds, Lord Śrīnandana became especially happy there.
Passage 29
परस्परं तौ मिलितौ समाजौ श्रीनन्दनश्रीसुखितेशयोर्यत्। कामप्यभिरव्यां दधतुर्महीध्रे रामस्तदालोक्य चिरं मुमोद॥२९॥
When the two communities of Śrīnandana and Śrī Sukhita met one another, they bore an indescribable cowherd splendor upon the mountain. Rāma gazed upon them and rejoiced for a long time. *Thus ends Chapter 74 of the Dakṣiṇa-khaṇḍa of the Śrīmad Ādi Rāmāyaṇa, in the dialogue of Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍa, concerning the reunion of the two cowherd communities.*
