Rāma's sandals answer the drought by becoming rain clouds. Divine rain restores rivers, fields, plants, and even scorched seed; crops sprout on bare rock and unsown land grows fruitful. Brahmā closes the episode by celebrating devotion to Rāma and his sandals as the source of welfare, steadfast dharma, and victory. The Divine Rain

Passage 1

ब्रह्मोवाच— अथ तत्पादुकायुग्मं सच्चिदानन्दविग्रहम्। कृपया सर्वलोकानां मेघीभूय ववर्षतुः॥१॥

Brahmā said: Then that pair of sandals, the embodiment of being, consciousness, and bliss, compassionately became clouds and rained for all the worlds.

Passage 2

अकस्माज्जलदस्तोम आवृत्य व्योममण्डलम्। जगर्ज सर्वलोकानां मनःप्रत्ययकारणम्॥२॥

Suddenly a mass of clouds covered the vault of heaven and thundered, giving confidence to the hearts of all the people.

Passage 3

ततो वृष्टिरभूद्दिव्या फलौषधिविवर्धिनी। प्लुष्टान्यपि महीपृष्ठे बीजानि प्रारुहन् क्षणात्॥३॥

Then divine rain fell, increasing fruit and medicinal plants. Even seed scorched upon the earth sprouted in an instant.

Passage 4

सरांसि सरितः कुल्याः क्षेत्राणि गिरिनिर्झराः। दिव्यमेघजलैः सद्य आप्लुताः पुपुषुः श्रियम्॥४॥

Lakes, rivers, canals, fields, and mountain streams, immediately filled by the divine cloud-water, flourished in beauty.

Passage 5

पादपाश्चैव वल्लर्य ओषध्यो गुल्मजातयः। फलपुष्पप्रभूतश्रीसंछन्ना रेजिरेतराम्॥५॥

Trees, vines, herbs, and kinds of shrubs shone exceedingly, covered in abundant splendor of fruit and flowers.

Passage 6

क्षेत्राणि च निराशानां कृषकाणामकालजाः। समृद्धीः फलपुष्पाणां दधिरे सुखकारिणीः॥६॥

The fields of farmers who had lost hope bore unexpected, joy-giving abundance of fruit and flowers.

Passage 7

फलौषधिभराक्रान्ता मेदिनी सर्वकामधुक्। चकार सर्वलोकानां चेतोनयनसम्मुदम्॥७॥

Laden with fruit and medicinal plants, the earth became a fulfiller of every desire and brought delight to the hearts and eyes of all people.

Passage 8

येषु क्षेत्रेषु बीजानि दग्धानि तपनातपैः। तेष्वेव द्विगुणा सम्पद्बीजानां पर्यदृश्यत॥८॥

In the very fields where seed had been burned by the sun's heat, a twofold abundance of seed appeared.

Passage 9

सर्वतो धान्यसम्पत्तिर्भव्यासीदद्भुतोत्तमा। शिलातलेष्वपि तदा बीजरोहो व्यदृश्यत॥९॥

Everywhere arose magnificent and supremely wondrous stores of grain; even upon rocky surfaces, seed sprouts could then be seen.

Passage 10

अनुप्तान्यपि चोप्तानि क्षेत्राणि फलवृद्धिभिः। महतीं सम्पदं बभ्रुर्दिव्यवृष्टिसमुद्भवाम्॥१०॥

Passage 11

किमेतदद्भुतं तस्मिन् प्रसन्ने पादुकाह्वये। रामस्य सर्वकामानां श्रेयसामभिवर्षके॥११॥

What is astonishing in this, when that power called Rāma's sandals is gracious, showering every desired blessing and welfare?

Passage 12

प्रसन्ने पादुकायुग्मे रामस्य परमात्मनः। किं दुर्ग्रहाः प्रकुर्वन्ति नॄणां भक्तिमतां भुवि॥१२॥

When the pair of sandals of Rāma, the Supreme Self, is gracious, what can hostile planets do to devoted people upon earth?

Passage 13

ईतयो भीतयः सर्वा व्याधयः परमाधयः। सद्य एव निवर्तन्ते प्रसन्ने पादुकाह्वये॥१३॥

Every calamity, fear, disease, and extreme affliction immediately turns away when the power called the sandals is gracious.

Passage 14

येऽर्चयन्ति रघुवरस्य महानुभाव- सच्चित्सुखैकनिधिपादुकयोर्युगं तत्। तेषां भवन्ति धनधान्यसमृद्धियोगा धर्मे च निश्चलतरा मतिरुत्तमा स्यात्॥१४॥

Those who worship that pair of sandals of Raghu's mighty Lord—the sole treasury of being, consciousness, and bliss—gain abundant wealth and grain, and their excellent understanding becomes utterly steadfast in dharma.

Passage 15

येषां सदैव कुलदेवतमेष देवः सर्वावतारनिविडाद्भुतसच्चरित्रः। रामो नितान्तरमणीयगुणाम्बुराशिस्- ते सम्मता दिविषदामपि पुरुषाग्र्याः॥१५॥

Those whose perpetual family deity is this Lord Rāma—whose wondrous true deeds contain all incarnations and who is an ocean of utterly enchanting virtues—are esteemed as foremost people even by the gods.

Passage 16

कल्याणमन्दिरमनन्तसुखैकहेतु- मापत्समूहहरणाय निबद्धकक्षम्। श्रीरामचन्द्रमपहाय जनः कमन्यं कालप्रभावकवलीकृतमाश्रयेत॥१६॥

Leaving Śrī Rāmacandra—the abode of welfare, sole cause of endless happiness, and one firmly resolved to remove every calamity—what other person, swallowed by the power of time, should anyone seek as refuge?

Passage 17

ब्रह्मादिदेवतसु पूजितयोः प्रकामं श्रीरामचन्द्रपदपादुकयोः प्रसादात्। केचिज्जनाः सुकृतिनो ननु कालमूर्ध्नि पादौ निधाय भुवनेषु जयन्ति नित्यम्॥१७॥

Through the grace of Śrī Rāmacandra's foot-sandals, abundantly worshiped among the gods headed by Brahmā, certain meritorious people place their feet upon the head of Time and triumph forever throughout the worlds.

Passage 18

आसादितामरगणप्रचुरप्रतिष्ठं तत्सर्वकामपरिपूरणकल्पवृक्षम्। अज्ञानपाशहरणं च रघुप्रवीर- श्रीपादुकायुगलमात्मनि सेवनीयम्॥१८॥

One should inwardly serve that pair of glorious sandals of Raghu's hero, which has attained immense honor among the gods, is a wish-fulfilling tree satisfying every desire, and removes the bonds of ignorance.

Passage 19

रामे विहाय धरणीवलयैकराज्यं प्राप्ते वनं जनकराजसुतानुजाभ्याम्। तत्पादुकायुगलमात्तनिजानुभावं चक्रे प्रजासुकुशलानि विपद्गरोऽपि॥१९॥

When Rāma relinquished sole sovereignty over the circle of earth and went to the forest with Janaka's daughter and his younger brother, his pair of sandals, assuming its own power, brought complete welfare to the people even amid severe calamity.
