Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— रामस्य पादुकायुग्मे यावद्राज्यं प्रशासति। न भयं नेतयः काश्चित्प्रजानां न शुचो रुजः॥१॥
Brahmā said: While Rāma's pair of sandals governed the kingdom, the people faced no fear or calamity, no grief or disease.
Passage 2
न दारिद्र्यं न दौर्भाग्यं न मृत्युर्नाशुभाधियः। न मालिन्यं न पापौघं दुःखं नापि धनक्षयः॥२॥
There was no poverty, misfortune, death, or inauspicious thought; no impurity, mass of sin, suffering, or loss of wealth.
Passage 3
नापदो दौर्मनस्यं न नोद्वेगो न च बन्ध्यता। क्वचिदप्यभवल्लोके कोसलायां विशेषतः॥३॥
Nowhere in the world—and especially not in Kosala—was there adversity, dejection, agitation, or barrenness.
Passage 4
यद्येन याचितं सम्यक् तत्तस्मै प्रतिपादितम्। पादुकाभ्यां प्रसादेन नालभ्यं विद्यते क्वचित्॥४॥
Whatever anyone properly requested was granted to that person. By the sandals' grace, nothing remained unobtainable anywhere.
Passage 5
परचक्रप्रशमनं ताभ्यां सम्यक् कृतं भुवि। शशास विपुलं राज्यं पादुकायुगलं सदा॥५॥
They thoroughly subdued hostile armies on earth, and the pair of sandals continually governed the vast kingdom.
Passage 6
इन्द्रादयः सुरास्तत्र कल्पवृक्षप्रसूनकैः। अवर्षन् यत्र निहितं पादुकायुगलं प्रभोः॥६॥
Indra and the other gods showered blossoms from wish-fulfilling trees upon the place where the Lord's pair of sandals had been installed.
Passage 7
अवाद् वायुः सुखस्पर्शः सुगन्धिमन्दसुन्दरः। अष्टयोजनतस्तत्र यत्र ते निहिते शुभे॥७॥
A gentle, lovely, fragrant breeze, delightful to the touch, blew for eight yojanas around the place where the auspicious sandals were installed. Judgment and Divine Authority
Passage 8
संदिह्यमाने विषये जनो निश्चेतुमागमत्। तस्य तेऽतिशुभामाज्ञामादिषातां नभोगिरा॥८॥
When a matter was in doubt, a person would come for a decision, and the sandals would issue their supremely auspicious command to him through a voice from the sky.
Passage 9
धर्मार्थकाममोक्षेषु यच्च येनाभियाचितम्। तत्तस्मै प्रददावार्यपादुकायुग्ममुत्तमम्॥९॥
Whatever anyone sought among righteousness, prosperity, desire, and liberation, the noble and excellent pair of sandals granted to that person.
Passage 10
द्वयोर्विवदतोर्मध्ये एकश्चेहानृतं वदेत्। श्रीरामपादुकाभ्याशे ध्रुवं तस्य पराजयः॥१०॥
If, in a dispute between two people, one spoke falsely, that person's defeat before Śrī Rāma's sandals was certain.
Passage 11
स्वभासा भूरिमार्तण्डभानुमत्या विशुद्धया। भुवनं व्याप्य सकलं तस्थतुः पादुके प्रभोः॥११॥
The Lord's sandals remained there, pervading the entire world with their pure radiance, brilliant as a mighty sun.
Passage 12
ते एव गुरुरूपेण मन्त्रतन्त्रप्रकाशिके। काले तस्मिन्नवर्तेतां महावैभवभूषिते॥१२॥
At that time those very sandals, adorned with immense glory, functioned in the form of the guru, revealing mantra and sacred procedure. Bharata's Daily Worship
Passage 13
भरतः प्रातरुत्थाय कृतशौचो विधानतः। निमज्ज्य सारवे वारिण्याप्लुतः शुचिविग्रहः॥१३॥
Rising in the morning, Bharata completed his prescribed purification, immersed himself in the waters of the Sarayū, and emerged bathed and pure in body.
Passage 14
उपास्त पादुकायुग्मं सर्वाभयवरप्रदम्। गन्धैः पुष्पैस्तथा धूपैर्दीपैर्नैवेद्यकल्पनैः॥१४॥
He worshiped the pair of sandals, which granted every blessing and freedom from fear, with fragrances, flowers, incense, lamps, and prepared food offerings.
Passage 15
तयोर्निवेदितं भोज्यमभुङ्क्त स्वयमाहृतः। माल्यालङ्कारवस्त्रादि बभार वपुषा स्वयम्॥१५॥
He ate the food that had been offered to them and himself wore upon his body the garlands, ornaments, garments, and other articles.
Passage 16
एवं दिने दिने विद्वान् विधिवत् पादुके प्रभोः। उपासीनः पञ्चकालमवर्तत सुखान्वितः॥१६॥
Thus each day the wise Bharata duly worshiped the Lord's sandals at the five appointed times and lived filled with happiness.
Passage 17
रामस्य शैशवी लीलाः कैशोरीर्व्रजभूमिगाः। अगायत् सुखितावासैर्गोपैः सह मुदान्वितः॥१७॥
Filled with joy, he sang of Rāma's childhood and youthful pastimes in the land of Vraja together with the cowherds dwelling with Sukhita.
Passage 18
व्रजस्त्रीणां मनःप्रेम वीक्षमाणोऽतिवृद्धिमत्। दिने दिने सुखस्तोममवहत्सोऽतिविह्वलः॥१८॥
Seeing the love in the hearts of Vraja's women grow exceedingly, Bharata became deeply overwhelmed and bore an ever-increasing flood of happiness day after day.
