Passage 1
ब्रह्मोवाच— एवं स भगवान् तस्यामयोध्यायां पुरीमणौ। निवसन् बुभुजे भोगान् सीतया सह निर्वृतः॥१॥
Brahmā said: “Thus the venerable Rāma dwelt in Ayodhyā, jewel among cities, and joyfully enjoyed its delights together with Sītā.
Passage 2
लाल्यमानो महाराजकौशल्याभ्यां दिवानिशम्। सेव्यमानो मुनिव्रातैः सेवमानः स्वयं च तान्॥२॥
“Day and night he was cherished by the great king and Kauśalyā, served by hosts of sages, and personally served those sages in return.
Passage 3
स्वेच्छया कतिचिद्वर्षान् लीलया सोऽत्यवाहयत्। युवराजपदं धाम्नालङ्कुर्वाणोऽखिलेश्वरः॥३॥
“By his own will, the Lord of all passed several years in līlā, adorning the station of crown prince with his splendor.
Passage 4
दिने दिने देवतानां सपर्या मुनीन्द्राणां वरिवस्या च शश्वत्। त्रैलोक्यमानन्दयितुं च तस्य दिने दिनेऽभून्नव उत्सवः प्रभोः॥४॥
“Every day brought worship of the gods and continual service to the eminent sages. To delight the three worlds, each day became a new festival of the Lord.
Passage 5
यद्रामणीयकममुष्य कदापि केनाप्यालोकितं तदपरे दिवसे न तत्स्यात्। आधिक्ययुक्तमिव नव्यतया व्यलोकि लोकोत्तराखिलगुणस्य रघूद्वहस्य॥५॥
“Whatever loveliness anyone beheld in him at one moment was no longer the same the following day. In the scion of Raghu, whose every virtue surpassed the world, it appeared ever new and increasingly abundant.
Passage 6
एवं सीता प्रिया चक्षुश्चकोरी पूर्णचन्द्रमाः। रेमे निरवधिक्रीडानन्दसन्दोहसागरः॥६॥
“Thus Rāma, the full moon for the cakora bird of his beloved Sītā's eyes and an ocean of boundless masses of playful bliss, delighted with her.
Passage 7
अलौकिकैर्लौकिकैश्च विलासैर्विश्वमोहनैः। स्फुटसर्वरसानन्दैर्मोदयामास जानकीम्॥७॥
“Through divine and apparently worldly sports that enchanted the universe and openly revealed the bliss of every rasa, he gave delight to Jānakī.
Passage 8
त्रैलोक्यं मोदयामासुश्चत्वारो भ्रातरो गुणैः। तेषां रामो विशेषेण शरण्यः शरणार्थिनाम्॥८॥
“The four brothers delighted the three worlds through their virtues. Among them Rāma was especially the refuge of all who sought protection.
Passage 9
सर्वानन्दप्रदः सर्वजनतापनिवारणः। सर्वत्र समदृष्ट्यैव करुणामृतसागरः॥९॥
“He granted joy to all, removed every person's suffering, viewed everyone equally, and was an ocean of the nectar of compassion.
Passage 10
लक्ष्मणो भगवान् साक्षात्सर्वासुरभयप्रदः। सत्कालकारणीभूतः साधुमार्गप्रवर्तकः॥१०॥
“The venerable Lakṣmaṇa was himself a source of terror to every asura, a maker of auspicious times, and one who set people upon the path of the good.
Passage 11
भरतो भगवान् सर्वप्रजारञ्जनशीलवान्। प्रजानां वृद्धिकरणः सर्वभाग्यविवर्धनः॥११॥
“The venerable Bharata possessed a nature that delighted all the people. He caused his subjects to flourish and increased every kind of good fortune.
Passage 12
शत्रुघ्नः सर्वसद्धर्मपालनोर्जितमानसः। असद्धर्मनिराशात्मा स्वभावात्साधुधर्मभृत्॥१२॥
“Śatrughna's powerful mind was devoted to protecting every true dharma. His being rejected false dharma, and by nature he upheld the way of the saints.
Passage 13
सर्वेऽप्युदारा गम्भीरा धीरा वीराः सुखप्रदाः। सुदर्शनाः सुवयसः सर्वसम्पत्तिपोषकाः॥१३॥
“All four were generous, profound, steadfast, heroic, and givers of joy. They were beautiful to behold, eternally youthful, and nourished every prosperity.
Passage 14
ब्रह्मण्याः साधुवादैकभाजनाः साधुपालकाः। कल्पवृक्षस्वभावाश्च सर्वसौख्यविवर्धनाः॥१४॥
“They cherished sacred learning, were the sole objects of saintly praise, and protected the good. Their nature was like wish-fulfilling trees, and they increased every happiness.
Passage 15
सुशीलाः सर्वलोकानां तापत्रयनिवारकाः। चित्रामितचरित्राश्च महामाना महौजसः॥१५॥
“Noble in conduct, they removed the threefold suffering of all the worlds. Their wondrous deeds were immeasurable, their dignity great, and their power immense.
Passage 16
भूभारहरणोद्युक्ताः सर्वासुरभयप्रदाः। सतां द्विजानां देवानां धर्मस्यास्य विवर्धनाः॥१६॥
“Intent upon relieving the earth's burden, they terrified every asura and increased the dharma of saints, brāhmaṇas, and gods.
Passage 17
सीतया सहितो रामो लक्ष्मणश्चोर्मिलायुतः। माण्डव्या सहितो वीरो भरतश्चारुदर्शनः॥१७॥
“Rāma was united with Sītā, Lakṣmaṇa with Ūrmilā, and the heroic, beautiful-to-behold Bharata with Māṇḍavī.
Passage 18
श्रुतकीर्त्या च शत्रुघ्नः सर्वानन्दविवर्धनः। ज्योत्स्नया सहिताः सर्वे साक्षाच्चन्द्रमसो यथा॥१८॥
“Śatrughna, increaser of everyone's joy, was united with Śrutakīrti. With their brides, all four resembled moons attended by moonlight.
Passage 19
प्रभया सहिताः साक्षात्सूर्या इव सुतेजसः। स्वाहास्वधावषट्वौषड्युक्ता हुतभुजो यथा॥१९॥
“They were radiant like suns attended by their splendor and like sacrificial fires joined by the invocations svāhā, svadhā, vaṣaṭ, and vauṣaṭ.
Passage 20
प्रद्योतिनो विशालाक्षा विनीताः शुद्धविग्रहाः। सर्वाप्रधृष्यवपुषः सर्वविद्याविभूषिताः॥२०॥
“They shone brightly, were large-eyed and humble, and possessed pure forms that none could overpower. Every branch of knowledge adorned them.
Passage 21
सर्वशस्त्रास्त्रविद्यानां पारं प्राप्ताः सुवर्चसः। सुधियः सुमुखाः सुज्ञाः कीर्त्या कान्त्या च मण्डिताः॥२१॥
“Radiant and wise, they had crossed to the far shore of every science of weapons and missiles. Their faces were gracious, their understanding sound, and fame and beauty adorned them.
Passage 22
मातुः पितुर्गुरूणां च नित्यमाज्ञाभिवाञ्छकाः। सर्वदारिद्र्यदमनाः जगतां कामपूरणाः॥२२॥
“They continually sought the commands of mother, father, and teachers. They destroyed every poverty and fulfilled the desires of the worlds. Śeṣa Praises the Princes
Passage 23
तानुग्रवीर्यान् पुरुषप्रकाण्डान् संलक्ष्य जातांश्चतुरो वर्धमानान्। शेषोऽसुरानीकशतोपमर्दितक्ष्माभारखिन्नोऽपि तदोदसर्पत्॥२३॥
“Seeing those four foremost men born and growing in formidable strength, Śeṣa—wearied by the earth's burden under the oppression of hundreds of demonic hosts—approached them.
Passage 24
महार्हासनसंरूढान् हारिणो हृदयङ्गमान्। महाराजकुमारांस्तान् विप्रो भूत्वा प्रतुष्टुवे॥२४॥
“Assuming the form of a brāhmaṇa, he praised the captivating royal princes, adorned with necklaces and seated upon magnificent seats.
Passage 25
शेष उवाच— जय जयामितकीर्तिविवर्धना जनमनोरथदानविचक्षणाः। रघुकुलामलपङ्कजभानवश्चिरमुदञ्चत राजकुमारकाः॥२५॥
Śeṣa said: “Victory, victory to you, royal princes, who increase limitless fame and skillfully fulfill the heart's desires of humankind. Suns to the spotless lotus of Raghu's lineage, may you shine for ages.
Passage 26
सुवयसां महनीयमहीभृतां भुवनसौख्यकृता जनुषैव वः। व्यपगतोऽयमहो ह्यवनीभरो ननु करिष्यथ सच्चरितैर्मुदम्॥२६॥
“You are eternally youthful and venerable rulers of the earth. By your very birth you bring happiness to the worlds. The earth's burden has surely departed, and through your noble deeds you will create joy.
Passage 27
त्रिभुवनाद्भुतकारि यशोनिधीन् जनविलोचनसार्थकताकरान्। सकललोकविलक्षणसौभगान् ननु नतोऽस्मि नतोऽस्मि नतोऽस्मि वः॥२७॥
“Treasuries of fame that astonishes the three worlds, you make human eyes successful and possess beauty unlike anything in all the worlds. I bow to you, bow to you, bow to you.
Passage 28
इदमनर्घ्यतमं भवतामुरःस्थलविभूषणलालसमानसः। परमभक्तिभरेण समर्पये सुरुचिरं मणिहारचतुष्टयम्॥२८॥
“Longing to adorn your chests, I offer with the fullness of supreme devotion these four exceedingly precious and beautiful jeweled necklaces.”
Passage 29
दत्त्वा प्रसादांस्तानेवं नत्वा नत्वा मुहुर्मुदा। मणिहारान् समर्प्योच्चैः शेषराजो विनिर्गतः॥२९॥
Having received their favor in this way, the king of serpents repeatedly bowed with joy, presented the jeweled necklaces with great reverence, and departed. The Sun Honors His Descendants
Passage 30
अथागमद् दिवानाथः प्रभामण्डललक्षितः। स्पृहणीयाकृतीन् स्तोतुं त्रयीमूर्तिर्मुदान्वितः॥३०॥
Then the lord of day came, recognizable by his circle of radiance. Embodiment of the three Vedas, he joyfully approached to praise the princes' desirable forms.
Passage 31
सूर्य उवाच— मत्तः साक्षात्प्रभूतं कुलमिदममलं मङ्गलं वः कुमाराः यस्मिन् सर्वादिर् वैवस्वतमनुरभवत्पुत्र ऐक्ष्वाकुरस्य। अन्ये मान्धातृमुख्याः सगरनहुषजादयश्च सर्वे प्रवीराः पुण्यश्लोका यशोभिः किमपि भुवमिमां भूषयामासुरुच्चैः॥३१॥
The Sun said: “Princes, this spotless and auspicious lineage arose directly from me. In it first came Vaivasvata Manu and his son Ikṣvāku; then Māndhātṛ, Sagara, Nahuṣa, and many other mighty heroes of sacred fame magnificently adorned the earth with their renown.
Passage 32
तेषां यूयं कीर्तिदाः स्वैश्चरित्रैः सौभाग्यश्रीवर्धना धर्मपालाः। सर्वे दोषानाविलैः सद्गुणौघैः पर्येधध्वं भूतलेऽस्मिंश्चिराय॥३२॥
“Through your own deeds you bring fame to those ancestors, increase the splendor of good fortune, and protect dharma. May all of you long flourish upon this earth through floods of pure virtues unstained by fault.
Passage 33
सर्वे भवन्तः पुरुषोत्तमाः स्फुटं लोकोत्तराशेषगुणौघमङ्गलाः। चिरञ्जयन्तु त्रिजगन्तिजप्रजासुभव्यसौभाग्यसुखैकदायिनः॥३३॥
“All of you are plainly supreme persons, auspicious through limitless streams of virtues transcending the world. May you be victorious forever, sole givers of happiness and blessed good fortune to the beings born throughout the three worlds.
Passage 34
अपूर्वा मम वंशस्य वृद्धिर्वा जन्मना भवत्। अहो हि मे महद्भाग्यं कियत्केन निरूप्यताम्॥३४॥
“By your birth my lineage has gained unprecedented increase. Ah, how immense is my good fortune! Who could possibly describe its measure?
Passage 35
इमानि मत्तुलारूपाण्युच्चैराभरणानि वः। समर्पये स्वाङ्गतेजः सङ्कोच्यैतानि वक्ष्यथ॥३५॥
“I offer you these sublime ornaments, whose forms resemble my own radiance. Contracting the brilliance of my body into them, I ask you to wear them.”
Passage 36
इति सम्पूज्य तपनो महाराजकुमारकान्। नत्वा स्तुत्वा निर्जगाम मुदोत्पुलकविग्रहः॥३६॥
Having worshiped the royal princes in this way, the Sun bowed and praised them, then departed, his body thrilled with joy. Indra Offers Celestial Garlands
Passage 37
महेन्द्रः सुरवन्दीनां विमुक्त्याशोद्भवं मुदम्। असंवृण्वन् समेयाय प्रत्यङ्गपुलकोद्गमैः॥३७॥
Mahendra came, unable to conceal the joy born from hope that the captive gods would be freed; horripilation rose upon every limb.
Passage 38
लङ्केशतनयाक्रान्तमहिमापि मुदान्वितः। अस्तौदस्तोभवचनो दृष्ट्वा दशरथात्मजान्॥३८॥
Though his majesty had been overpowered by the son of Laṅkā's lord, he filled with joy upon seeing Daśaratha's sons and praised them in measured words.
Passage 39
इन्द्र उवाच— जयन्तु नो भाग्यपुषः प्रकर्षान्निजेच्छया सत्कृपयावतीर्णाः। साक्षाद्भवन्तो भुवने शत्रुघ्नभरतलक्ष्मणरामचन्द्राः॥३९॥
Indra said: “May you—Śatrughna, Bharata, Lakṣmaṇa, and Rāmacandra—be victorious upon earth. Descended by your own will and perfect grace, you cause our good fortune to flower abundantly.
Passage 40
यद्ब्रह्मसद्मातिगमद्वितीयं परं प्रधानात्पुरुषाच्च पूर्णम्। तद्धाम नित्यं विमलं विशोकं साकेतसंज्ञं परमोत्तमं वः॥४०॥
“Your supreme abode named Sāketa surpasses Brahmā's realm, is without a second, and stands complete beyond primordial matter and the cosmic Person. It is eternal, spotless, and free of grief.
Passage 41
विज्ञाय भक्तौघपरावहेलनां महासुरानीककृतां कृपावशाः। इहावतीर्णास्त्रिजगद्भवाय कुलेऽमले दाशरथे यशस्कराः॥४१॥
“Knowing the humiliation inflicted upon hosts of devotees by great armies of asuras, you have compassionately descended into Daśaratha's spotless and renowned lineage for the welfare of the three worlds.
Passage 42
करिष्यथ द्यां नियतं महोजितप्रमत्तरक्षोभरभाववर्जिताम्। स्ववीर्यतः सम्प्रति मोचयिष्यथ स्वर्लोकवन्दीन् निजचित्तदुःसहान्॥४२॥
“Through your immense power you will surely free heaven from the oppressive weight of arrogant rākṣasas. By your own valor you will release the captives of the celestial world whose suffering your hearts cannot bear.
Passage 43
इमाः सदाम्लानतमाः सुगुम्फिता मुदा स्वदासीकरपल्लवाभ्याम्। अमन्दमन्दारतरुप्रसूनजाः स्रजः समारोपयत स्ववक्षसि॥४३॥
“Please place upon your chests these perfectly woven, ever-fresh garlands of abundant mandāra blossoms, joyfully fashioned by the tender hands of your maidservants.”
Passage 44
इत्यभ्यर्च्य सहस्राक्षः पीत्वा तद्रूपसारघम्। चिरं स्तुत्वा मुहुर्लब्धप्रसादोऽगाद् दिवं प्रति॥४४॥
Having worshiped them thus, thousand-eyed Indra drank in the honey of their beauty. He praised them for a long time, repeatedly received their grace, and returned to heaven. The Coming Turn Toward the Forest
Passage 45
ब्रह्मोवाच— एवं समस्तैस्त्रिदशैः काले काले यथोचितम्। निषेव्यमाणा मुमुदुर्मादयन्तो जगत्त्रयम्॥४५॥
Brahmā said: “Thus all the gods served the four brothers at suitable times and in fitting ways. The princes rejoiced while filling the three worlds with joy.
Passage 46
यथा यथा दाशरथेः कलोदयः कृष्णेतरे पक्ष इवोडुपस्य। तथा तथा कोकवामेव मम्लौ लङ्काधिपोत्तंसविभूषणश्रीः॥४६॥
“As Daśaratha's glorious son waxed like the moon in the bright fortnight, the splendor adorning Laṅkā's lord faded like a cakravāka bird parted from its mate.

श्रीरामस्य महद्वीर्यमसुरानीकदुःसहम्। प्रत्यहं ववृधे भूयः सतां सन्तोषपोषणम्॥४७॥
“Śrī Rāma's immense valor, unbearable to armies of asuras, increased each day and nourished the satisfaction of the saints.
Passage 48
अनादृत्य राज्याभिषेकं रमेशः सुराणां मुनीनां सतां मङ्गलार्थी। वसन्नेव पूर्णो यमादिव्रजान्तर्निजांशेन यातो वनं भक्तकार्ये॥४८॥
“Disregarding the royal consecration, the Lord of Ramā entered the forest to accomplish his devotees' purpose and secure the welfare of gods, sages, and saints, even while remaining fully present within hosts beginning with Yama through his own portions.
Passage 49
इति ते कथयिष्यामि साक्षाद्भगवतो यशः। नित्यं धवलितं येन स्वभासा भुवनत्रयम्॥४९॥
“I shall now relate to you the glory of the venerable Lord himself, whose own radiance eternally makes the three worlds shine pure and bright.” Colophon इति श्रीमदादिरामायणे ब्रह्मभुशुण्डसंवादे दक्षिणखण्डे राज्याभिषेके पञ्चमोऽध्यायः ॥ ५ ॥ Thus ends Chapter 5, “On the Royal Consecration,” in the Dakṣiṇa-khaṇḍa of the glorious Ādi Rāmāyaṇa, in the dialogue between Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍa. Witness control note Dakṣiṇa-khaṇḍa Chapter 5 begins below the Chapter 4 colophon on source leaf 41 and ends above the Chapter 6 heading on source leaf 45 (physical PDF pages 42–46). The witness prints a continuous passage sequence 1–49. All five scan pages were reviewed directly, including the shared opening and closing leaves, and the English is a fresh translation from the scan-controlled Sanskrit. The printed Rewa, Mathurā, and Ayodhyā variants were reviewed as apparatus rather than silently substituted into the base text.
