Chapter context and opening material

After hearing the hidden Vraja līlā, Daśaratha completes his pilgrimage across the sacred geography of India. At Prabhāsa he meets Durvāsas and Vyāsa, hears their declaration that Rāma is the source of every divine manifestation, and explains that he serves Rāma not as abstract Brahman but simply as his beloved son. The king then travels north through Dvārakā, Kashmir, Kurukṣetra, Badarikā, and Kedāra. When the Himalayan road becomes severe, his people refuse to abandon him. Entering Gandhamādana, he hears of Rāma’s earlier exploits and of the ascetic Viśālākṣī, whose story opens the following printed section. The witness then presents a second consecutive section numbered Chapter 137. It recounts Kamalā’s jealous austerity and rebirth as Gandhamādana’s daughter Viśālākṣī, her recognition of Rāma in a forest bower, and Rāma’s instruction that she win his love by worshiping Sahajānandinī. Leaving primordial Vraja
