Chapter context and opening material

Daśaratha praises Sukaṇṭha’s intimate knowledge of Rāma’s secret Vraja play and asks Sukhita to continue the narration. Sukhita recounts a night when a great python seized his foot after the worship of Caṇḍikā. Rāma touched the serpent with his lotus foot, restoring the celestial Candramukha to his own form. Candramukha explains that pride in beauty and rank led him to mock the sage Dattaśarman, who cursed him to become a python but promised release through Rāma’s touch. Freed at last, he praises Rāma, renounces celestial pleasure, and withdraws to the Himalaya to live in loving contemplation. Daśaratha asks for more of Rāma’s secret play

Source and editorial note This chapter is transcribed and translated from source leaves 955–960 of the 1975 Pūrva-khaṇḍa scan (physical PDF pages 956–961). Chapter 133 begins at the top of physical page 956; its colophon is followed by Chapter 134 on the lower half of physical page 961. The edition prints passage number 12 twice and then resumes at 14. Both printed 12 markers are preserved above; the second independent unit is registered editorially as passage 13, yielding 62 passages in the chapter. Minor spacing and obvious OCR segmentation have been normalized against the scan. Several densely printed compounds retain the closest legible reading; the English gives their direct contextual sense without silently supplying a missing passage.
