The Vraja Feast and Rāma’s Evening Return

Global chapter 132 of 51472 passagesSource PDF pages 949954
Chapter context and opening material

Daśaratha receives an extraordinary cowherd feast whose thirty-six savory preparations and fifty-six beloved offerings were taught by Sahajā herself. The meal reveals how ordinary acts of cooking and hospitality become vessels of divine rasa in primordial Vraja. At the king’s request, Sukaṇṭha then recounts the cowherd women’s songs as Rāma returns from grazing. Their meditation follows his flute, gait, glances, and moonlike face until they enter the cowshed under evening darkness, meet him in secret play, and return home bearing vessels of milk.
