Passage 1
सुकण्ठ उवाच— एकदा नारदो राजन् देवर्षिर्भक्तपुङ्गवः। सनत्कुमारस्य मुखादश्रौषीत् सहजेश्वरीम्॥१॥
Sukaṇṭha said: O king, once Nārada—the divine sage and foremost among devotees—heard about Sahajeśvarī directly from Sanatkumāra.
Passage 2
सनत्कुमार उवाच— रामस्यातिप्रिया धन्या सहजानन्दिनी स्वयम्। आदिलक्ष्मीः सती ज्ञेया भक्तिरूपा सनातनी॥२॥
Sanatkumāra said: Blessed Sahajānandinī herself is exceedingly dear to Rāma. Know her as the primordial Lakṣmī, the eternal and faithful one whose very form is devotion.
Passage 3
तस्याः प्रसादमासाद्य यो नरो भजते तु ताम्। स रामभक्तिं लभते प्रेमाख्यां भावरूपिणीम्॥३॥
The person who receives her grace and worships her attains devotion to Rāma known as prema, whose nature is sacred emotion.
Passage 4
नान्यथा लभते मर्त्यो दुर्लभां दैवतैरपि। रामभक्तिमतिश्रेष्ठां कल्पकोटिशतैरपि॥४॥
In no other way can a mortal attain that highest devotion to Rāma, difficult even for the gods to obtain, though hundreds of millions of ages may pass.
Passage 5
आदिव्रजे निवसति तत्रस्थान् सम्प्रपूजयन्। स एव तत्प्रसादस्य प्राप्तो भवति नेतरः॥५॥
She dwells in primordial Vraja. Only one who deeply honors those who reside there becomes a recipient of her grace; no one else does.
Passage 6
नारद उवाच— सहजानन्दिनी नाम कासौ रामस्य वल्लभा। वदैतस्याः समुत्पत्तिं भगवन् शृण्वतो मम॥६॥
Nārada said: Lord, who is this beloved of Rāma named Sahajānandinī? Please tell me of her manifestation, for I am eager to hear.
Passage 7
ततो धाम गुणान् वक्तुमर्हसि मे सर्वशो मुने। यस्याः प्रसादमासाद्य रामभक्तिं लभेज्जनः॥७॥
Then, sage, please describe her abode and qualities to me completely, for by receiving her grace a person attains devotion to Rāma.
Passage 8
सनत्कुमार उवाच— सा नित्या वल्लभा तस्य प्रेमानन्दमयी परा। अमुना भावरूपेण नित्यं रामे प्रतिष्ठिता॥८॥
Sanatkumāra said: She is his eternal beloved, the supreme embodiment of the bliss of love. In this form of sacred emotion she remains eternally established in Rāma.
Passage 9
नामधामस्वरूपेण यथा रामस्तथैव सा। प्रमोदवनगा नित्यं रमते रमणान्विता॥९॥
In name, abode, and essential form she is just as Rāma is. Eternally dwelling in the Forest of Joy, she delights there in union with her beloved.
Passage 10
तथापि तस्याः संस्थानं रहस्यं कथयामि ते। यद्गोप्यं सर्ववेदेषु नाख्येयं यस्य कस्यचित्॥१०॥
Even so, I shall tell you the secret of her dwelling place—a mystery guarded in all the Vedas and not to be disclosed indiscriminately. Her supreme abode and descent
Passage 11
सर्वधामशिरोरत्नं प्रमोदवननामकम्। राजते रामवैकुण्ठं सहजायाः परं पदम्॥११॥
The crest jewel of every sacred abode, named the Forest of Joy, shines as Rāma’s Vaikuṇṭha and Sahajā’s supreme station.
Passage 12
ततश्च देवकार्यार्थं साकेतेऽसाववातरत्। आविर्भाव्य निजं धाम परं प्रमुदकाननम्॥१२॥
Then, to accomplish the purpose of the gods, she descended in Sāketa after manifesting her own supreme abode, the Forest of Joy.
Passage 13
अयोध्यां परितो देशश्चतुर्विंशतियोजनः। प्रमोदवनमुद्दिष्टं श्रीरामस्य परं पदम्॥१३॥
The region extending twenty-four yojanas around Ayodhyā is designated the Forest of Joy, the supreme station of Śrī Rāma.
Passage 14
आविर्भूतं प्रियं रासं विज्ञाय सहजेश्वरी। अवातरत् स्वयमपि रसानन्दशरीरिणी॥१४॥
Knowing that the beloved rāsa had manifested, Sahajeśvarī herself descended, her body consisting entirely of the bliss of rasa.
Passage 15
सुखितो नाम गोपेन्द्रस्तद्गेहे राम उद्भवः। श्रीनन्दनस्य गोपस्य गृहे श्रीसहजेश्वरी॥१५॥
The chief cowherd was named Sukhita, and Rāma appeared in his house. Śrī Sahajeśvarī appeared in the home of the cowherd Śrīnandana.
Passage 16
परकीयरसप्रेमपुष्ट्यर्थमवतारिणी। विजहार श्रियैषा नित्यं प्रमुदकानने॥१६॥
She descended to nourish love in the rasa of a beloved beyond conventional marriage, and this glorious goddess sported eternally in the Forest of Joy.
Passage 17
नित्या रसमयी लीला सहजारामयोर्जनः। गायन् शृण्वन् परं भक्तिं श्रावयन् विदुषां गणे॥१७॥
One who sings and hears the eternal, rasa-filled play of Sahajā and Rāma, and recounts it among the wise, attains supreme devotion.
Passage 18
ततः सञ्जातया भक्त्या भवबन्धात् प्रमुच्यते। लभते तत्परिकरे कृपयान्तःप्रवेशनम्॥१८॥
Through the devotion thereby born, one is freed from the bonds of worldly existence and, by grace, gains entrance among their intimate attendants. The beauty and power of Sahajānandinī
Passage 19
सहजानन्दिनी तत्र कोटिचन्द्रसमद्युतिः। श्रीरामलोचनद्वन्द्वचकोरहृदयतोषिणी॥१९॥
There Sahajānandinī shines with the radiance of millions of moons, delighting the cakora-like hearts of Śrī Rāma’s two eyes.
Passage 20
कोटिकोटिसखीयूथतारकामध्यचन्द्रिका। नवयौवनसम्पूर्णलावण्यरसवारिधिः॥२०॥
She is the moon amid the stars formed by millions upon millions of circles of companions, an ocean of the rasa of beauty filled with ever-fresh youth.
Passage 21
परार्धरतिनिर्जेत्रमाधुर्यरसरञ्जिता। अपीच्यतनुरुग्रामकल्याणकुलमण्डिता॥२१॥
She is adorned by a rasa of sweetness that conquers limitless hosts of the goddess of love; her exquisitely beautiful body is ornamented by every abundance of auspicious qualities.
Passage 22
महामहार्हवसनरत्नालङ्कारभूषिता। वनकेलिरतिक्रीडासमुत्कण्ठितमानसा॥२२॥
She is adorned with supremely precious garments and jeweled ornaments, and her heart longs for forest play and intimate loving sport.
Passage 23
सर्वानुभावभवना विभावनिवहात्मिका। परकीयरसप्रेमसामग्रीसाधनात्मिका॥२३॥
She is the dwelling place of every outward expression of love and the essence of the full host of love’s stimulants. Her nature is the complete means and substance of love in the parakīyā rasa.
Passage 24
दोलोत्सवद्योतिनी नित्यं प्रेमशतोद्वहिनी। नानाहावैश्च भावैश्च मनो मोदयतेऽस्य सा॥२४॥
She eternally illumines the swing festival and bears hundreds of currents of love. Through many gestures and emotions she delights Rāma’s heart.
Passage 25
य एतस्या गुणाँल्लोके शृणुयाद्रहसि स्थितः। तस्य तद्गुणतो नूनं रामभक्तिः प्रजायते॥२५॥
Whoever remains in a secluded place and hears of her qualities in this world will certainly develop devotion to Rāma through the power of those very qualities.
Passage 26
सहजा सहजेत्येवं रामरामेति कीर्तयन्। मुच्यते भवबन्धेभ्यो महाकलुषतोऽपि च॥२६॥
By singing “Sahajā, Sahajā” and “Rāma, Rāma,” one is freed from the bonds of worldly existence and even from the greatest impurity.
Passage 27
तस्मात्कीर्तयतां नित्यं नारद प्रीतिपूर्वकम्। क्वणयन् नाम वीणायां सद्यो निर्वृतिमेष्यसि॥२७॥
Therefore, Nārada, always sing her name with love. Sounding that name upon your vīṇā, you will attain supreme peace at once.
Passage 28
इति श्रुत्वा तु देवर्षिः सहजादर्शनोत्सुकः। श्रीरामसहजास्थानमादिव्रजमुपाययौ॥२८॥
Hearing this, the divine sage became eager to behold Sahajā and arrived in primordial Vraja, the abode of Śrī Rāma and Sahajā. Nārada enters primordial Vraja
Passage 29
प्रमोदविपिने पूर्णे सर्वर्तुसुखसम्पदा। ददर्श तत्र विमलं पदमखण्डविराजितम्॥२९॥
Within the Forest of Joy, filled with the delightful abundance of every season, Nārada beheld a stainless realm shining in undivided splendor.
Passage 30
सहजानन्दिनीचारुचरणाब्जरजोऽङ्कितम्। रामप्रेमोत्सविरहभ्राजद्व्रजवधूजनम्॥३०॥
It was marked by pollen from Sahajānandinī’s lovely lotus feet and filled with women of Vraja radiant in the festival and separation of love for Rāma.
Passage 31
हंससारसचक्राह्वकादम्बकुलनादितम्। रमणीयं सरस्तस्मिन् स्नातुकाम उपागमत्॥३१॥
He approached a beautiful lake resounding with communities of swans, cranes, cakravākas, and kadamba waterfowl, wishing to bathe there.
Passage 32
तत्र यावन्निमज्ज्यासावुदतिष्ठन्मुनीश्वरः। तावत्तत्राभवद्दिव्ययोषित् सौभाग्यशालिनी॥३२॥
The moment that lord among sages submerged himself and rose again, he had become a divinely beautiful woman endowed with extraordinary good fortune.
Passage 33
सञ्जातरूपसौन्दर्यगर्वाङ्कुरमनोहरा। ततो निःसृत्य सरसः स्त्रीवस्त्रं परिधाय च॥३३॥
Charming with the first sprout of pride in her newly manifested beauty, she left the lake and put on women’s clothing.
Passage 34
अपश्यद्रामलीलाभिर्व्याप्तं प्रमुदकाननम्। प्रमोदवनवातेन वीजिता साभवत्तथा॥३४॥
She saw that the Forest of Joy was pervaded by Rāma’s divine play, and the breeze of that forest gently fanned her.
Passage 35
अन्तःप्रेममयीं वृत्तिं दधती चकिताभवत्। क्वाहं कुतः समायाता क्व यास्यामीति विस्मयात्॥३५॥
Bearing within herself a state composed entirely of love, she became bewildered: “Who am I? From where have I come? Where shall I go?”
Passage 36
नाशकद् रोदितुं नापि शशाक च तर्कितुम्। ततो रुरोद साक्रोशं सा वामतनुरुच्चकैः॥३६॥
At first she could neither weep nor reason. Then that lovely-bodied woman cried out and wept aloud.
Passage 37
न किञ्चिज्जानती कर्तुमेकान्ते विजने वने। ततस्तस्मिन् वने काचित् सहजायाः सखीगणात्॥३७॥
Alone in the deserted forest, she did not know what to do. Just then one of Sahajā’s companions appeared there.
Passage 38
विनिर्मुक्ता सखी प्राप्ता पुष्पावचयकर्मणि। वर्तमाना सुवेषाढ्या वस्त्रालङ्कारभूषिता॥३८॥
The companion had left her circle to gather flowers. She was beautifully dressed and adorned with fine garments and ornaments.
Passage 39
सा वीक्ष्य वामां रुदतीमेनां प्रोवाच सौहृदात्। किमर्थं वत रम्भोरु रोदिषीह वरानने॥३९॥
Seeing the lovely woman weeping, she spoke out of friendship: “Why are you crying here, O woman with plantain-like thighs and beautiful face?
Passage 40
स्वयूथतः परिभ्रष्टा प्रायस्त्वं वामलोचने। मा रोदीस्त्वामहं तत्र प्रापयिष्यामि भीरुके॥४०॥
“Doe-eyed one, you have probably become separated from your own circle. Do not weep, timid woman; I shall take you back to them.”
Passage 41
इत्यमाश्वासिता सा तामुवाच सुनृपाङ्गना। अहं हि सहजारासदर्शनार्थं समुत्सुका॥४१॥
Thus comforted, that exquisitely formed woman replied: “I am intensely eager to behold Sahajā’s rāsa.” Led through the circles of companions
Passage 42
अतो मां प्रापय परं यत्र तौ सम्प्रतिष्ठितौ। ततः सा तां समादाय यूथेश्वर्यै न्यवेदयत्॥४२॥
“Therefore take me to the supreme place where those two are dwelling.” The companion took her and presented her to the leader of her circle.
Passage 43
सापि चान्यां स्वयूथेशीं सा चान्यां सापि चेतराम्। एवं क्रमेण सा नीता भाग्येन च सुभक्तितः॥४३॥
That leader brought her to another circle-leader, who brought her to another, and so onward. By good fortune and excellent devotion she was led forward in this sequence.
Passage 44
मुख्ययूथेश्वरीं श्यामां सहजायाः प्रियां सखीम्। सा तां दृष्ट्वाभिनव्याङ्गीं पप्रच्छ हृदि विस्मिता॥४४॥
At last she reached Śyāmā, the chief circle-leader and dear companion of Sahajā. Seeing the newly arrived woman, Śyāmā wondered inwardly and questioned her.
Passage 45
कासि त्वं वद वामोरु वसतिः क्व च ते पुरे। साब्रवीन्ननु मां विद्धि यां काञ्चिद् व्रजवासिनीम्॥४५॥
“Who are you, lovely-thighed woman? Tell me, and say in which settlement you live.” She replied, “Simply know me as one among the women dwelling in Vraja.
Passage 46
सहजारामयोर्नूनं दानार्थं समुत्सुकाम्। दर्शयिष्यसि यौ मां तौ तदिष्टं मे करिष्यसि॥४६॥
“I am eager to offer myself to Sahajā and Rāma. If you show those two to me, you will fulfill my dearest wish.”
Passage 47
संस्थाप्य द्वारि तां श्यामा महतः कुञ्जसद्मनः। अन्तर्गत्वा प्रभोरन्तस्तदागममवेदयत्॥४७॥
Śyāmā left her at the entrance to the great bower residence, went within to the Lord, and announced her arrival.
Passage 48
प्रवेश्यतामन्तरिति प्रभोराज्ञामवाप्य च। श्यामान्तः सप्तमीं कक्षामानिनाय ततस्तु सा॥४८॥
Receiving the Lord’s command, “Let her enter,” Śyāmā brought her inward as far as the seventh enclosure.
Passage 49
कयाचिद्वेत्रधारिण्या निरुद्धाभिनवत्वतः। श्यामाब्रवीद्वेत्रहस्तामियमन्तः प्रवेश्यताम्॥४९॥
Because she was a newcomer, a cane-bearing gatekeeper stopped her. Śyāmā told the guardian, “Let this woman enter.”
Passage 50
आज्ञा श्रीरामचन्द्रस्य वेत्रहस्ताब्रवीत्ततः। इदं श्रीसहजादेव्याः कुञ्जस्य मनोहरम्॥५०॥
“It is Śrī Rāmacandra’s command.” The cane-bearing guardian then replied, “This beautiful bower belongs to the goddess Śrī Sahajā.
Passage 51
नात्र श्रीरामचन्द्रस्य स्वातन्त्र्यं सखि विद्यते। ततः श्यामाब्रवीद् गत्वा सहजारामयोरिमाम्॥५१॥
“Friend, even Śrī Rāmacandra has no independent authority here.” Śyāmā therefore returned and reported the matter to Sahajā and Rāma.
Passage 52
रामः श्रीसहजावक्त्रं ददर्श करुणानिधिः। प्रियस्याभिप्रायतश्च सहजाज्ञापयत् सखीम्॥५२॥
Rāma, the treasury of compassion, looked toward Śrī Sahajā’s face. Understanding her beloved’s intention, Sahajā commanded her companion.
Passage 53
आनयस्वेह तां श्यामे प्रियस्याज्ञा गरीयसी। ततस्तामानिनायासौ मुनिं स्त्रीवेशधारिणम्॥५३॥
“Śyāmā, bring her here. My beloved’s wish carries the greatest weight.” Śyāmā then brought forward the sage who now bore a woman’s form.
Passage 54
तं तथावेशिनं दृष्ट्वा जहास सहजेश्वरी। वदनांशुच्छटाजालैर्द्योतयन्ती निकुञ्जकम्॥५४॥
Seeing him so transformed, Sahajeśvarī laughed, illuminating the bower with a web of rays streaming from her face. Sahajā recognizes Nārada
Passage 55
ततः कौतूहलेनासौ पप्रच्छ कपटस्त्रियम्। कस्मिन् ग्रामे वसस्यद्धा किं च ते नाम कामिनि॥५५॥
Then, with playful curiosity, Sahajā questioned the woman in disguise: “In which village do you actually live, lovely woman, and what is your name?”
Passage 56
ततस्तद्दर्शनोद्भूतप्राचीनस्मृतिभानया। अहं नारदसख्यस्मीत्येवमुत्तरमब्रवीत्॥५६॥
The sight of Sahajā caused an ancient memory to dawn within her, and she answered, “I am a companion of Nārada.”
Passage 57
ततः श्रीसहजादेवी प्रोवाच स्मितपूर्वकम्। दृश्यतां प्रिय नैतस्य मुनेरद्यापि निर्गता॥५७॥
The goddess Śrī Sahajā then said with a smile, “Look, beloved—the sage’s old longing has evidently still not departed.
Passage 58
पूर्वजन्मोत्थसंस्कारस्त्वत्र स्थातुमर्हति। ततो रामः स्वयमपि स्मित्वा प्रोवाच नारदम्॥५८॥
“The impression arising from his former birth must remain here.” Rāma himself then smiled and addressed Nārada.
Passage 59
मुनिपुङ्गव यद्भक्तिप्रसादस्तेऽजनि स्फुटम्। यदत्र रहसि प्राप्तः परन्त्वद्यापि नो गता॥५९॥
“Foremost sage, the grace born of your devotion is evident, for you have reached this secret place. Yet your former conditioning has still not fully departed.
Passage 60
वासना पूर्वदेहोत्था तस्मान्मय्येव मूर्छिता। स्वनाम्नैवाङ्किते कुण्डे प्रेमचर्यां चरन् रहः॥६०॥
“The latent tendency arising from your former body remains absorbed in me. Therefore live secretly in the discipline of love at the lake marked with your own name.
Passage 61
चिरं तिष्ठ व्रजजनपादपद्मरजो वहन्। ततः कालेन भविता सम्पूर्णस्ते मनोरथः॥६१॥
“Remain there for a long time, bearing the dust of the lotus feet of Vraja’s people. In due course your heart’s desire will become complete.”
Passage 62
इत्याज्ञप्तः स रामेण सख्या निःसारितस्ततः। स्थितो नारदकुण्डेऽत्र प्रेमचर्यामुपाश्रितः॥६२॥
Thus instructed by Rāma, Nārada was escorted out by a companion. He remained there at Nārada-kuṇḍa, taking shelter in the discipline of love. Daśaratha visits Nārada-kuṇḍa
Passage 63
सन्दर्शनं तस्य कर्तुं भवानुपगमिष्यसि। तावदायाति गोपेन्द्रो गृहीत्वा भोज्यसंविधाम्॥६३॥
“You too will go to receive his audience. Meanwhile a chief cowherd comes to him carrying a prepared offering of food.”
Passage 64
ततो जगाम नृपतिर्नारदं द्रष्टुमादरात्। परिवारगणैः साकं तीर्थयात्रासु निष्ठितः॥६४॥
The king, intent upon his pilgrimage, then respectfully went with his retinue to behold Nārada.
Passage 65
स्नात्वा नारदकुण्डस्य सुधास्वादुतमे जले। पीत्वा च पद्मकिञ्जल्कश्रेणीपरागौघविचित्रितम्॥६५॥
He bathed in the supremely nectar-sweet water of Nārada-kuṇḍa and drank that water, variegated by masses of pollen from rows of lotuses.
Passage 66
सस्त्रीकः परिवारेण सहितो नृपसत्तमः। महतीं मुदमापासीत्तीर्थस्यास्य प्रभावतः॥६६॥
Together with his queens and retinue, that finest king attained immense joy through the power of this sacred place.
Passage 67
स तत्तटमधिष्ठाय तिष्ठन्तं मुनिपुङ्गवम्। सर्वभक्तगणश्रेष्ठं ददर्श खलु नारदम्॥६७॥
On the bank he saw Nārada, foremost among sages and greatest among all hosts of devotees, dwelling there in contemplation. Majesty and parental love
Passage 68
राजोवाच— अग्रहीत् तस्य चरणौ प्रश्रयावनतो नृपः। भक्तराज इति ज्ञात्वा ननाम च मुहुर्मुहुः॥६८॥
The king bowed humbly, took hold of Nārada’s feet, and, knowing him to be the king of devotees, offered reverence again and again.
Passage 69
अहो ते मुनिशार्दूल भाग्यं किं वर्ण्यते मया। यस्त्वं ददर्श तामादिलक्ष्मीं रमापतेः॥६९॥
He said: “Tiger among sages, how can I describe your good fortune? You have beheld the primordial Lakṣmī of the Lord of Ramā.
Passage 70
प्रियेण सङ्गतां सम्यग्रामेण प्रेयसानिशम्। तस्याः कृपाकटाक्षेण भक्तिस्ते नित्यमूर्जिता॥७०॥
“You saw her perfectly united day and night with her dearest beloved Rāma, and through her gracious sidelong glance your devotion has become eternally powerful.
Passage 71
दर्शनात् तव भक्तस्य नृणां प्रेमाङ्कुरो भवेत्। अहोऽहं त्वां प्रपन्नोऽस्मि भक्तिलाभसमुत्सुकः॥७१॥
“Merely by seeing a devotee such as you, the sprout of love arises in human hearts. I take refuge in you, intensely eager to attain devotion.”
Passage 72
नारद उवाच— अहो नृपतिशार्दूल किं पूजयसि मां वृथा। कुत्र लब्धा मया भक्तिरस्य नित्यविलासिनः॥७२॥
Nārada said: “Tiger among kings, why do you honor me without cause? Where have I attained true devotion to this Lord of eternal play?
Passage 73
भवेज्जनः क एतस्य रामस्य स्नेहभाजनम्। तस्यानुग्रहतः किञ्चिद्भविष्यति किमद्भुतम्॥७३॥
“What person can become a genuine vessel of this Rāma’s affection? If even a little arises through his grace, what wonder is there in that?”
Passage 74
राजोवाच— विलोक्य रूपमेतस्य विनयप्रश्रयं तथा। साक्षाद्भवति वात्सल्यं मम भूयो विवृद्धिमत्॥७४॥
The king said: “When I see his form and his humility and graciousness, an intensely increasing parental love arises directly within me.
Passage 75
पश्चात्तु तस्य माहात्म्यं स्मारं स्मारं रमापतेः। सद्यो विनष्टवात्सल्यो भवामि मुनिसत्तम॥७५॥
“But afterward, as I repeatedly remember the majesty of the Lord of Ramā, that parental love disappears at once, O finest sage.”
Passage 76
नारद उवाच— धन्योऽसि यस्य ते रामे जायते प्रेम वृद्धिमत्। माहात्म्यज्ञानमचितं तस्य वै परमात्मनः॥७६॥
Nārada said: “Blessed are you, for ever-increasing love for Rāma arises within you. Awareness of that Supreme Self’s majesty is not appropriate to this love.
Passage 77
नूनं नृपतिशार्दूल त्वयि भूयाननुग्रहः। यत्त्वं श्रीरामचन्द्रस्य चुचुम्ब मुखपङ्कजम्॥७७॥
“Tiger among kings, his grace upon you is surely immense, for you have kissed Śrī Rāmacandra’s lotus face.
Passage 78
तस्य मूर्धन्युपाघ्राय समालिङ्ग्य च तद्वपुः। दूरादायान्तमालोक्य गृह्णासि स्वाङ्कमध्यतः॥७८॥
“You smell the crown of his head, embrace his body, and, seeing him approach from afar, take him directly into your lap.” The supremacy of parental love
Passage 79
ईदृशोऽस्य सदा भावो ब्रह्मादीनां सुदुर्लभः। भावेऽस्मिन्नमृताम्भोधौ मग्नस्तिष्ठ चिरं नृप॥७९॥
“Such a relationship with him is exceedingly difficult even for Brahmā and the other gods to attain. O king, remain forever immersed in the nectarean ocean of this parental love.
Passage 80
अपास्य सर्वमाहात्म्यमैश्वर्योद्भूतमद्भुतम्। पुत्रवात्सल्यभावेन रञ्जितो भव भूपते॥८०॥
“Set aside every awareness of his wondrous majesty and divine sovereignty. O lord of the earth, remain wholly colored by parental affection for your son.” The pilgrimage continues
Passage 81
ब्रह्मोवाच— ततो नत्वा मुनिश्रेष्ठं शिवकुण्डं गतो नृपः। तत्र स्नात्वा शिवोऽप्यास नारीरूपधरः क्षणात्॥८१॥
Brahmā said: The king then bowed to the foremost sage and went to Śiva-kuṇḍa. By bathing there, even Śiva had once assumed a woman’s form in an instant.
Passage 82
ततोऽसौ योग्यतां प्राप्य सहजानन्दिनीसखीम्। रामं लीलारसोपेतं ददर्श तदनुग्रहात्॥८२॥
Having thereby gained eligibility to become a companion of Sahajānandinī, Śiva, through her grace, beheld Rāma immersed in the rasa of divine play.
Passage 83
तत्र स्नात्वा नृपो दत्त्वा विप्रेभ्यो बहुलं धनम्। मुदा परमया युक्तो भूयोऽयोध्यां जगाम ह॥८३॥
The king bathed there and gave abundant wealth to the brāhmaṇas. Filled with supreme joy, he then continued again toward Ayodhyā.
Passage 84
सुकण्ठाख्या यत्र गोपाः प्रमोदैकान्तसेवकाः। आसते परमप्रेमपुलकाङ्कुरविग्रहाः॥८४॥
There dwelt the cowherds headed by Sukaṇṭha, exclusive servants of the Forest of Joy, their bodies covered with budding horripilation from supreme love.
Passage 85
तत्रैव सङ्गतो राजा परमानन्दनिर्भरः। पुनः श्रीरामचन्द्रस्य वार्तयन् विशदान् गुणान्॥८५॥
The king met them there, overflowing with supreme bliss, and once more spoke with them about the stainless qualities of Śrī Rāmacandra.
Passage 86
ग्रामवासा मुहूर्तेन तावद् द्रुतमुपागताः। सायं विमलतोये कृतनित्यक्रियो बुधः॥८६॥
The village residents quickly assembled within a short time. At evening the wise king performed his prescribed daily rites in the pure water.
Passage 87
गृहीत्वा भोज्यसम्भारं प्रसादं श्रीरमापतेः। तेनासौ तर्पयामास राजानं परिवारकैः॥८७॥
The cowherd lord brought a complete offering of food—the grace of Śrī Rāma, Lord of Ramā—and with it satisfied the king and his retinue.
Passage 88
अनन्तपुरपर्यन्तं बाह्यकुण्डं नृपैककम्। कैकेयीं नृपतिं चैव तोषयामास गोपतिः॥८७॥
At the outer lake extending toward Anantapura, the cowherd lord especially honored and satisfied both King Daśaratha and Kaikeyī. > Editorial numbering: this is the second independent unit printed as passage > 87. Source control note Chapter 131 occupies registered source leaves 941–948 of the Pūrva-khaṇḍa volume (physical PDF pages 942–949) and contains 88 independent passages. Chapter 131 begins below Chapter 130’s colophon on physical page 942; Chapter 132 begins on physical page 950. The edition prints passages 1–87 and then a second independent passage marked 87 immediately before the colophon. The duplicate printed marker is preserved in the Sanskrit and the final unit is registered editorially as passage 88. All eight source pages were reviewed directly against the scan, and the English is a fresh translation from the scan-controlled Sanskrit.
