Passage 1
विश्वामित्रस्यानुमत्या जनकः सुमहाशयः। ऊर्मिलां लक्ष्मणायादान्माण्डवीं भरताय च॥१॥
With Viśvāmitra’s consent, noble-hearted Janaka gave Ūrmilā to Lakṣmaṇa and Māṇḍavī to Bharata.
Passage 2
श्रुतकीर्तिं शत्रुघ्नाय विधिवत् प्रददौ नृपः। पारिवर्हमदाद् भूयः सर्वेभ्यश्च पृथक् पृथक्॥२॥
The king duly gave Śrutakīrti to Śatrughna, and then bestowed wedding gifts upon each of them separately.
Passage 3
गजान् दशसहस्राणि हयानामयुतं नृपः। सुवर्णानि च रत्नानि रथांश्च सपरिच्छदान्॥३॥
The king gave ten thousand elephants, ten thousand horses, gold and jewels, and chariots complete with all their equipment.
Passage 4
दासीः कमलपत्राक्षीः सालङ्काराः शुभाननाः। सीतायै जनकः प्रादादन्यच्च विपुलं धनम्॥४॥
Janaka gave Sītā lotus-eyed maidservants whose lovely faces were adorned with ornaments, together with abundant wealth of many other kinds.
Passage 5
ऊर्मिलायै च माण्डव्यै श्रुतकीर्त्यै तथैव च। असंख्येयं वस्तु प्रादादुत्तरोत्तरतो वरम्॥५॥
To Ūrmilā, Māṇḍavī, and Śrutakīrti as well, he gave goods beyond count, each successive gift finer than the one before it.
Passage 6
पुरः प्रस्थानसमये सुमहान् मङ्गलोत्सवः। अभूद्राघववंश्यस्य वरवध्वतिमङ्गलम्॥६॥
When the procession set out from the city, a great festival of auspiciousness arose; for the bridegroom of Raghu’s line and his bride, the moment was supremely auspicious.
Passage 7
विवाहमङ्गले पीतवस्त्रवेशादिभूषिताः। रामलक्ष्मणशत्रुघ्नभरता रेजिरेतराम्॥७॥
At the auspicious wedding, Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Śatrughna, and Bharata shone exceedingly, adorned in yellow garments and festive attire.
Passage 8
शङ्खदुन्दुभिभेरीभिः पणवानकगोमुखैः। अन्यैर्माङ्गलिकैर्वाद्यैः स शब्दः सुमहानभूत्॥८॥
Conches, kettledrums, large drums, small drums, ānakas, gomukhas, and other auspicious instruments raised an immense sound.
Passage 9
विमानावलिभिर्व्योम देवैः कौतुकसंगतैः। सिद्धविद्याधराद्यैश्च व्याप्तमासीत् समन्ततः॥९॥
The sky was filled on every side with rows of celestial cars, with gods who had come to witness the wonder, and with Siddhas, Vidyādharas, and others.
Passage 10
मङ्गलं सुमहत्तत्र नरनारीगणेष्वभूत्। सीतारामौ शुभाशीर्भिर्ब्राह्मणाः समपोषयन्॥१०॥
Great auspiciousness arose there among the hosts of men and women, while the Brāhmaṇas nourished Sītā and Rāma with their benedictions.
Passage 11
सुमहान्मङ्गलोपेतो राजा दशरथः कृती। सवधूकैः सुतैर्युक्तः साकेतपुरमागमत्॥११॥
King Daśaratha, fulfilled and attended by great auspiciousness, returned to the city of Sāketa with his sons and their brides.
Passage 12
तत्र वैवाहिकं दिव्यं कौतुकं परिपश्यताम्। जनानां नयनानन्दो बभूव सुमहान् मुहुः॥१२॥
As the people beheld that divine wedding spectacle, an immense delight arose again and again within their eyes.
Passage 13
गीतवाद्यविनोदेन महता संभ्रमेण च। वरवध्वोः प्रवेशेणाऽप्ययोध्या शुशुभेतराम्॥१३॥
With the pleasure of song and instruments, with tremendous festivity, and with the entrance of bridegroom and bride, Ayodhyā shone more splendidly than ever.
Passage 14
चित्रध्वजपताकाद्यैर्भवनानि विरेजिरे। लाजदध्यक्षतजलैः पुराध्वानो विरेजिरे॥१४॥
The buildings gleamed with many-colored banners, pennants, and other ornaments; the city roads gleamed with parched grain, curds, unbroken rice, and water.
Passage 15
स्थले-स्थले च नारीणां सुगीतं समजायत। शुभाशिषः प्रयुञ्जाना ब्राह्मणाः समुपाययुः॥१५॥
In place after place, the women’s beautiful singing arose, and Brāhmaṇas came forward pronouncing blessings.
Passage 16
नर्तक्यो ननृतुश्चैव गन्धर्वा जगुरुच्चकैः। जगत् प्रमुमुदे सर्वं सीतारामस्वयंवरे॥१६॥
The dancing women danced and the Gandharvas sang aloud; the entire world rejoiced deeply at the wedding of Sītā and Rāma.
Passage 17
भक्ताः परमहंसाश्च महाभागवता नराः। दृष्ट्वा सीतायुतं रामं स्वभाग्यं बहु मेनिरे॥१७॥
The devotees, supreme renunciants, and greatly blessed Bhāgavatas beheld Rāma with Sītā and considered their own good fortune immense.
Passage 18
तथा सूक्ष्मदृशः केचिद्योगिनो रामसेवकाः। रामे नित्यस्थितां सीतां विशेषाद् ददृशुर्मुदा॥१८॥
Some subtle-sighted yogins devoted to Rāma joyfully perceived, in a special way, Sītā eternally established within Rāma.
Passage 19
अमृतौघप्रवर्षी च स कालः समभून्नृणाम्। यत्र सीतायुतं रामं ददृशुः प्राकृता अपि॥१९॥
That time became for mortals a shower of streams of nectar, for even ordinary people then beheld Rāma united with Sītā.
Passage 20
परं ब्रह्म परा शक्तिः सीतारामेति कथ्यते। चिदानन्दवपुः साक्षात्कल्याणगुणाञ्चितम्॥२०॥
The Supreme Brahman and the Supreme Power are called Sītā-Rāma: manifestly a form of consciousness and bliss, adorned by auspicious qualities.
Passage 21
तद्यस्य गोचरं दृष्ट्योः स वै धन्यतरो नरः। अयोध्यास्थान् जनान् सर्वान् पशुपक्ष्यन्तिजानपि॥२१॥
Most blessed indeed is the person within whose two eyes that form comes. As for all the inhabitants of Ayodhyā—even its animals, birds, and low-born beings—
Passage 22
दृग्भ्यामानन्दयामास रामः सीतावधूयुतः। यथा राकाचन्द्रिकया युतः शारदचन्द्रमाः॥२२॥
Rāma, accompanied by his bride Sītā, gladdened them with his gaze, like the autumn moon joined with the radiance of the full moon.
Passage 23
सुखितस्यालये स्थित्वा गोपेन्द्रनन्दनात्मजा। या रता रघुरामेण सेवाभूर्जनकात्मजा॥२३॥
Having dwelt in Sukhita’s abode as the daughter of Gopendra-nandana, she who delighted in Raghurāma became, as Janaka’s daughter, the very ground of service.
Passage 24
अंशरूपेण सर्वत्र सीता सर्वस्वरूपिणी। नानया रहितो रामः क्वचित्स्थास्यति निश्चितम्॥२४॥
Sītā, whose own form is all forms, is present everywhere through partial manifestations. Rāma will certainly never exist anywhere bereft of her. Thus ends Chapter Seventy-nine, called “The reunion of Sītā and Rāma,” in the dialogue of Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍi in the glorious Ādi Rāmāyaṇa. Source note This chapter is transcribed directly from printed pages 339–340 of the 1975 Pūrva-khaṇḍa witness (source leaves 470–471). The archival page is authoritative; OCR was used only as a locating aid. Verse 6 preserves the edition’s compressed varavadhvatimaṅgalam, and verse 23 preserves its unusually transmitted proper-name and compound sequence rather than silently replacing either with a conjectural reading. The main reading kalyāṇaguṇāñcitam is retained in verse 20; the printed footnote records a variant ending in -varjitam.
