Passage 44
इत्येतत्कथितं गोप्यो रहस्यं मम यत्स्थितम्। भूयः किमिच्छथ श्रोतुं तद्वो गोप्यतमं ब्रुवे॥४४॥
“Gopīs, I have thus told you the mystery that abides in me. What more do you wish to hear? I shall tell you that most hidden teaching.” --- Thus ends the fiftieth chapter, “The Great Secret of the Rāma-gītā within Rāma’s Journey,” in the dialogue of Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍa in the *Śrīmad Ādi Rāmāyaṇa*. Textual notes The chapter begins on source leaf 354, occupies leaves 354–358, and ends with passage 44 and its complete colophon on physical PDF page 359. All forty-four passage numbers are sequential in the edition. Passage 4 corrects the transcription aid’s sahastra to the scan’s सहस्र. Passage 15 follows the scan’s विश्वप्रकाशम्, not the aid’s विष्वप्रकाशम्, and passage 25 likewise restores यद्दृष्टम् and सहस्रमार्तण्ड. Passages 10–16 preserve several visibly printed case-ending irregularities instead of regularizing them from context; the English conveys the evident syntax. Passage 19 prints वयं नः, although its request for the gentle two-armed form requires a negative sense: “we are not fit to behold this form.” The English follows that immediate context while the difficult transmitted words remain visible above. Passage 13 securely prints the rare or corrupt मरुत्त्वम्; neither its compound division nor its intended technical sense is established by the edition. The English therefore retains marut-tva instead of converting it into the more familiar but unattested महत्त्वम्. Passage 32 prints क्लेशनाशोऽपि, which makes the line’s surface syntax contradict its consoling context. The bracketed English follows the evident intended sense—very likely क्लेशलेशोऽपि, “even a trace of affliction”—while preserving the printed root and recording the problem here. Passage 37 restores the scan’s single compound पशुपक्ष्यन्त्यजानपि, “even animals, birds, and outcastes,” from the aid’s misleading word division. Passage 36 likewise follows the scan’s दैत्यान्, not the aid’s anusvāra. Passage 42 retains the scan’s अत्रस्तः, “unafraid,” rather than emending it to अत्रस्थः, “remaining here”; the latter would repeat the preceding passage’s assurance but is not the transmitted reading.
