Passage 1
जन्म कर्म च मे दिव्यं वद रामस्य विस्तरात्। तत्कथामृतपानेन मम चित्तं प्रसीदति॥१॥
Tell me fully of Rāma’s divine birth and deeds. By drinking the nectar of that account, my mind becomes serene. Brahmā said
Passage 2
पुरा दशास्यमुख्येषु राक्षसेषु जगत्त्रयम्। व्याकुलीकृतमत्यर्थं तदा विधिरचिन्तयत्॥२॥
Long ago, when the three worlds had been thrown into utter turmoil by the rākṣasas headed by the Ten-faced One, the Creator reflected.
Passage 3
अहो मया कृतं विश्वं विष्णुना प्रतिपाल्यते। ईशेन ह्रियते भूयः संप्राप्ते भुवनक्षये॥३॥
“Ah! The universe fashioned by me is preserved by Viṣṇu and taken back again by Īśa when the dissolution of the worlds arrives.
Passage 4
भुवनस्य क्षयश्चापि नाधुनैव भविष्यति। कल्पं सारस्वतं नाम युगं त्रेताभिधं तथा॥४॥
“But the world’s dissolution will certainly not occur now. This is the kalpa called Sārasvata and likewise the age named Tretā.
Passage 5
प्रायेणैषां विनाशाय द्विजधर्मत्रयीद्रुहाम्। भविष्यति स्वयं रामः प्रादुर्भूतः क्वचिद्भुवि॥५॥
“Rāma himself will surely appear somewhere upon the earth to destroy these enemies of the twice-born, of dharma, and of the Vedic triad.”
Passage 6
ततः समाधौ प्रबभूव वाणी स्वयं भविष्यामि कलाभिरन्वितः। धर्मस्य संस्थापनहेतवे पुनः स्वभक्तपक्षप्रतिपालनाय च॥६॥
Then a voice arose within his samādhi: “I myself shall appear, attended by my divine powers, to establish dharma once again and to protect the cause of my devotees.
Passage 7
सरयूपुलिने रम्ये कोशला नाम मे पुरी। सच्चिदानन्दनवनी शाश्वतं यत्परं पदम्॥७॥
“On the beautiful sands of the Sarayū stands my city named Kośalā, ever fresh with existence, consciousness, and bliss—that eternal supreme abode.
Passage 8
पृथिव्यां भारते वर्षे प्रकटं तन्मदाज्ञया। अत्रैवाहं स्वरूपेण विहरामि परिच्छदैः॥८॥
“By my command it becomes manifest upon the earth in Bhārata-varṣa. There I myself sport in my own true form together with my attendants.
Passage 9
लीलोपकरणैर्युक्तो नित्यैरप्राकृतैस्तथा। सुरा अपि भविष्यन्ति स्वांशेन प्रकटा इह॥९॥
“I am accompanied by the eternal, supramundane instruments of my līlā. The gods too will become manifest there through their own portions.”
Passage 10
इति श्रुत्वा गिरं सूक्ष्मां वेधाः प्रोवाच विस्मितः। सर्वान् देवगणान् भूयो रावणाद्यैरुपद्रुतान्॥१०॥
Hearing this subtle voice, the astonished Creator then addressed all the hosts of gods who were oppressed by Rāvaṇa and the other rākṣasas. --- Thus ends the eighth chapter, “The Divine Descent Is Announced,” in the dialogue of Brahmā and Bhuśuṇḍa in the Śrīmad Ādi Rāmāyaṇa. Textual note Verse 5 is read with the photographed edition’s clear kvacid bhuvi (“somewhere upon the earth”), correcting the private aid’s defective final syllables. Verse 7 retains the edition’s unusual compound saccidānanda-navanī; its sense is rendered conservatively without replacing the transmitted root.
