Śrī Sītārāma Mental Worship — the contemplative service of the eight periods. I bow to Rāma: worshipped by Brahmā and the other gods, a vast treasury of virtues, the supreme one whom the Veda makes known; famed as Vaidehī’s beloved, pure and moonlike in his delight, splendid with arrows and bow; origin of the universe and worshipped by the universe, boon-giving and immensely strong, friend of the lord of the monkeys; Lord of all, lotus-eyed, all-pervading and immeasurably glorious—the heroic sovereign of the universe. I bow first at Svāmī Rāmānanda’s feet, then to Kīla and Agra; to Nābhā, Tulasīdāsa, the guru, and the foremost Kāmadendra. I bow to Śrī Raghunandana and Jānakī, to Bharata, Lakṣmaṇa, and the destroyer of enemies; to Hanumān and the whole twofold retinue, rich in the five devotional flavours. Joined to the intimate-servant’s mood and the adornment of love, I have composed this brief, joy-giving method of mental service; with affection I entreat everyone. Wise, dark Rāma sits with Sītā at the centre of a jeweled throne. Beloved Lakṣmaṇa holds the royal parasol, whose splendour eclipses ten million suns. Bharata and his younger brother wave fly-whisks to right and left, while the Wind-god’s son fans them. Rasarangamaṇi holds this vision in his heart.
