Moved by the great power of His inconceivable līlā, Mother Rohiṇī is the first to open her eyes. She understands that Yaśodā has given birth to a son. The attendants also awaken. But the beauty of that infant, radiant like a blue sapphire, is so extraordinary that they can only gaze at Him with unblinking eyes; no one remembers the duty of the moment. They hear the newborn child's soft, indistinct crying, yet all remain exactly where they stand, like wooden dolls. Excess of joy has left their bodies entirely powerless. Surely the all-pervading Lord, the indwelling witness of all, remains alert even within bodies rendered helpless. Radha Baba
