After gazing for a few moments, she understands that the child in her womb has been born. But what is this? Wonder and fear spread across the mother's face. She sees her own face reflected in the infant's dark limbs and thinks, "How can this possibly be?" The heart of the mother, filled with parental love, trembles with fear of misfortune. She thinks, "Surely, while I lay unconscious, some yoginī who steals infants came here by magic, assuming my appearance, and now hovers in the air. This is her reflection. Alas! Alas! Nṛsiṁha! Glory to Nṛsiṁha! Protect us. By the power of Nṛsiṁha's fear-dispelling name, may that yoginī be destroyed. Nṛsiṁha! Nṛsiṁha! Ḍākinī, go away, or you will be destroyed." In an anguished voice the queen of Vraja pours out many words at once. Her distress breaks the concentration of her gaze, and the reflection disappears.
