Do not fight the thought. Ask who witnesses it
1:49|2026|self-inquiry
Who are you? Now, in that you don't have to create any duality. You say that the answer comes, I am this body-mind. You are not to say, I am not this body-mind. You are to say, who witnesses that thought? You are not to negate it with a negative concept. You are not trying to create a fight and get one side to win. You are saying, okay, this thought is appearing. Correct. That can't be denied. The answer is coming in the form of the thought. When the thought is appearing, it's a valid question to ask, who witnesses that thought? Now, after you ask that question often enough, then somebody like your teacher may ask you, tell me about the I that witnesses that thought. Then he may also or she may also ask you in a negative way, is the I that witnesses the thought a body? You may say no. Is it emotion? You may say no. So in that way, you may be able to negate. But initially, just stay with the simple enquiry, who am I? The answer may come, but I am this body, I am Atma, I am this male, I am this man. The answer may come, but the answer will come initially only in the form of thoughts. When we are starting our enquiry, we are not getting intuitive insight, we are getting thoughts. So when the thought comes, Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi has given us the instruction, ask yourself who witnesses that thought. And in asking yourself the question, who witnesses that thought, you will be led to a silence, to a stillness, where the revelation of the Atma within will happen. So you are not to create any conceptual duality.
