Awareness & Attention

You Are Self-Knowledge

You are already self-knowledge itself, not something to attain; the Self is beyond all conceptualization and opposites, like the ocean is beyond its waves.

Ananta

That, which can say ‘I am aware now’, (is) from Awareness itself. That ‘I’ is not the usual representation of I. That’s why many of us feel a bit strange to say ‘I am aware’. I am aware even of that Aware. Because we are so used to using I as a body-mind. But it is your most intimate self knowledge or knowingness as you called it, that which cannot be gained or lost. It just always is. So, you don’t have to find self knowledge. You are self knowledge. Atma gnana is not something to attain. It is what you are. There is no difference between Self and Knowledge. This (is) true Knowledge, capital K. And no amount of perceptual or intellectual knowledge can capture it, decipher it, translate it…(simple). And there is nobody that it has to benefit. Because the mind’s ‘but’ will always come - But what happened for you? Nothing has to happen (you see, for whom anyway?) So, that keeps us away from any of these spiritual ups and downs. Sometimes we feel very happy with our spirituality, because a lot of bliss is there, freedom is there. Sometimes we feel upset with our spirituality, God also sometimes, because we’re just feeling like… [hangs head on one side and looks dejected]. But does the movement of these waves mean anything for the reality of the ocean? You see? On your surface, this one tiny wave is there which seems to always get the primary spot -- we can't even conclude that because this could be the only waking state in which you are experiencing this particular wave. We can't really confirm that it will be there, but it seems that way. But if given memory some credence, then one particular wave seems to always be in the focus, you see? But because of it being in focus, does it make you into that? Does the ocean become the wave because that wave seems to be in focus. And do the ups and downs of that wave then become the ups and downs of the ocean? A metaphor is just a metaphor, ok? Don't get into any visualization and the imagination, and things like that because the mind will try to be your friend in these ways and say Ananta is saying you are the boundless ocean, and then say ocean...ocean [shows expansive ocean with his spreading arms]. [Laughs]. You don’t have to do any of that. You already are That. Even before you can visualize or imagine or think about it, you are it. You know, Ashtavakra said, ‘You are the boundless ocean in which the arcs of the universes are coming and going’. And, many might have just heard this and started imagining themselves to be, (you know), very big [arms going upwards]... and, so big that that all this world is rotating inside you. But you are not big or small. These are just... trying to turn the self into human images because in our human mind we can only conceptualize big-small, good-bad, true-false so we try to give all these attributes to all that which is empty of any restrictions. Our imagination cannot capture it, it is too big for imagination and too small for imagination. Our intellect can’t deal with this stuff. But somewhere, somewhere, you see yourself beyond these opposites. Are you big or small? Doesn’t apply... These are just phenomenal representations. You are beyond these just tiny boxes.
