Awareness & Attention

You Are Even Beyond This God of the Waking State

You are the unscratchable awareness that witnesses even Being itself, beyond the Presence that appears in the waking state as its own divine ground.

Ananta

How you know something is missing? [Pause]

Seeker

[inaudible] There is something feels really painful.

Ananta

Do you mean there is some emoHonal pain?

Seeker

Yes

Ananta

So, if you did not have the idea that if you were truly seeing then pain should not come, then, would you sHll be able to say that something is missing?

Seeker

I don’t know

Ananta

That’s what we can look. If pain was just…[shrugging the shoulder] yeah…it can come. As long as the waking state is there, there will be pain and there will be pleasure. So, once you accept it in that way and you didn’t know what missing was actually then it couldn’t be missing. [Pause] Is the one that is aware of the pain, in pain?

Seeker

No

Ananta

Is that resisHng pain in any way?

Seeker

No

Ananta

Lets see if we can go this far. Is it possible that even it is taking some joy from even the taste of this experience that we call pain? That is, may be going a bit too far at the moment. Let me see [inaudible]

Seeker

Well, I don’t know about joy but definitely some aZracHon there.

Ananta

Yeah, so, what is the trouble then? It’s playing with what it is aZracted to. It is fine.

Seeker

Ok

Ananta

Nothing has to change in the manifest. Nothing has to change in our experience. And that is why we can throwaway all benchmarks about what freedom is, about what self-realizaHon must mean. Because it is just the benchmarks which conHnue to remain like dust on the mirror. Now what I want you to do is, that which is aware, hurt that in some way. Make a Hny scratch on it, like, just a Hny scratch. Yeah, you can’t [inaudible]

Seeker

I can’t

Ananta

And is that which is un-scratchable, untouchable in this way. Is that not you?

Seeker

It feels like it’s here but it’s not me.

Ananta

Ah aa…. so the me is which one then?

Seeker

[inaudible] now the me is gone.

Ananta

Me is gone. But you are sHll there. This is the beauHful thing. The Me is gone – you can say….and the me goes [inaudible]

Seeker

[InterrupHng in the middle] But the energy is here. The Me is not there but the energy is there.

Ananta

So, the energy is not me. That is just your mind trying to convince you it is sHll there. So, right now, [snaps fingers] (there is no) it is not possible for the false noHonal me to be there because, it needs the concept, it needs belief, it needs all that hard work to be done. So….

Seeker

[InterrupHng in the middle] I want to scream.

Ananta

You want to scream? [Laughs] If you want you can mute and scream and comeback. [inaudible] which is audible for everyone, whatever you like. I don’t know about your neighbors and Hme [inaudible]. Ok, what is the message behind the scream? Is it like a child – I don’t want to go? I don’t like this?

Seeker

Yeah. It’s about denying [inaudible], seeing that the me doesn’t…. The me is actually a sense of energy and not going with it.

Ananta

Yeah, the me is not just a pure percepHon of energy. It is noHon mixed with any experience. [Pause] You know, and this is just a variaHon of the ego’s biggest trick. And the ego’s biggest trick is to convince you that your very Presence itself, that your Existence itself is the ego [inaudible] get rid of.

Seeker

Yes

Ananta

The idea is that Hll you exist you cannot be anything but the ego, but this is just not true.

Seeker

Thank you for saying that.

Ananta

(Very welcome), so it’s not a limited Presence, if it was a limiHng ego then your sense of presence would have a boundary. Now, I can promise you that it does not have. Check, and noHce that the sensaHons which you call your body, and (the) all these visual percepHons, other percepHons are just included in that, but they don’t limit your Presence.

Seeker

Yes, that’s true.

Ananta

So it is not that which we have to get rid of, that actually is our own sense of Being, the sense of I’am-ness, Consciousness itself.

Seeker

Yes, so then what’s difference between - someHmes there is awareness of Being, Mooji even says “Yes, even the Beingness is seen”

Ananta

Yes

Seeker

So then what’s the difference?

Ananta

So, (this) and I say to you ‘can you stop Being?’ your Beingness is apparent, isn’t it?

Seeker

Yes

Ananta

Now, that which is aware of this Being, that is the one that is aware. “Oh, I woke up at 7AM” - that means this Being arises and with it then follows the percepHons of the world. That which is aware even of Being, is That which is constant much beyond even these comings and goings of even this Presence. So, this Presence, this divinity is God for the waking state, but you are beyond even this God of the waking state.

Key Teachings

  • Pain and pleasure naturally arise in the waking state—nothing is missing when this is accepted
  • The aware presence that witnesses pain cannot itself be hurt or scratched—this is your true nature beyond all experience
  • Even Being and Presence are objects of awareness; you are the awareness that knows Being, which is constant beyond all comings and goings
