The Self (I Am)

Who Is the One Looking for Freedom?

The invitation is to meet your Self without any expectation of bliss, experiences, or benefits - just Truth for Truth's sake, now.

Ananta

So, this provocation of, or this invitation to look at; whether we really want Truth for Truth sake or are we expecting some other benefits out of our spirituality. It’s good to see this, because it brings to light what the other alternative things you could maybe want. Maybe you just want some bliss or maybe you just want some spiritual experience or maybe you want a repeat of some idea of awakening that you may think you had, or something like this. So, when the pointers come to you and you use them for your enquiry, for your recognition, the mind plays with all of these doubts and says, ‘But where is my bliss? But where is my experience?’ or ‘This is different from what that was’ or ‘I want that’, these kinds of things. So, when you use the sword like ‘Truth for Truth’s sake’ then all these doubts are kept aside. I don’t want it to become like a new Sadhana for you. [One may] feel guilty or unworthy that I don’t… its not like that. It’s just meant to for your let go of whatever other expectation your mind may give you with regards to what is being pointed to in Satsang. So, basically what I am saying is, don’t get involved in anything else besides this discovery of your Self, this Truth, with no expectation of any other outcome. And don’t even apply to past or future, just nothing. Just now, what is it that you want? Just now. Then all the intellectual complication about ‘Oh, but this is just my person which is answering or is this really true? What voice is this?’ (all this) don’t worry about any of that. Which means that when you meet your Self, you are not expecting anything else to change as a result of that. You are not expecting some benefits out of that, you are just meeting your Self in the most open and the most simple way. Because mostly what happens is that we get caught in these expectations, we get caught in these doubts, of what the Truth must do for us. [Smiles] So, don’t worry about it so much. [Chuckles] Don’t worry about it so much! And in your heart, your answer is clear actually. And for me it’s always quite clear, quite apparent what you want because I don’t feel like you can keep coming to Satsang like this [Smiles] if you want anything other than Truth. I don’t feel like there is much entertainment that is available here, or some expectation gets created when you come to Satsang like this. Because it is relentlessly pointing you to this Truth and negating any other phenomenal benefits.

Key Teachings
