What You Take Yourself to Be?

Every identity or position, including the negation of identity, is illusory; what remains is beyond all thought and cannot be captured by any concept.

Ananta

The one who can’t say - Doesn’t exist!

Ananta

The one who can say - Doesn’t exist! What you take yourself to be? Space - Doesn’t exist! Infinite, eternal - Doesn’t exist! Forget about it. [Silence] That which remains - Doesn’t exist! [Silence] The moment you have thought about it… the moment you have concluded… Forget about it. What you take yourself to be? Nothing, nothing, nothing - Doesn’t exist! [Smiles] To take yourself to be nothing, is to take yourself to be something. What is left? [Silence]

Seeker

No way, I am not taking anything to be myself.

Ananta

[Smiles] That ‘not taking’ doesn’t exist.

Key Teachings

  • All identifications - including 'nothing' - are conceptual constructions that don't truly exist
  • Even the stance of 'not taking anything as self' is itself a position that doesn't exist
  • What remains cannot be thought, concluded, or conceptualized - it is beyond all positions
