Existence & Being

What We Are Pointing To is Beyond Being and Not Being

The pointer is beyond Being to the obvious 'I' that cannot be found through mind, because searching already assumes 'I am something.'

Seeker

Father [Ananta] isn’t ‘Being’ phenomenal, aren’t we pointing to ‘Being’ here?

Ananta

Rarely. Being is the substratum for all phenomena and therefore maybe called the primal phenomenal or the primal vibration or the primordial vibration. But what most of us refer to as Being, we are talking about the fragrance of existence called the Presence, which has this taste of…Presence. But really what we are pointing to is beyond Being and not-Being. [Pause] That which is even more obvious than just Being. Because many times we may say, what is most obvious? I am. But that ‘I’ which is Am-ing, which is Being, isn’t that most obvious? That’s where our mind cannot go, it might receive the question but a true answer it cannot get. [Silence] As far as Being goes, yes, I have some circumstantial evidence of my existence because the Presence is here, so based on the Presence we feel like, ‘Yes, I exist, I am’. But when we say, what is the evidence of this ‘I’, independent of Being. What is the evidence of this ‘I’? [Silence]. What is the evidence that it is ‘you’ who are? [Silence] How do you know that it is ‘you’ who are? Why don’t we look and say, ‘What is most obvious that you are’ or ‘Someone is’? Why do we say, ‘I am’? What is the evidence of this ‘I’ itself? What do we mean by that anyways, what do we mean by ‘I’? Which am? Which is the ‘I’ which is? [Pause] All of us say, ‘I am’ but which ‘I’ are we talking about? Which ‘I’ is?

Seeker

Without thinking and without perception, it is obvious.

Ananta

It’s obvious, it’s obvious. So how to search for that which is most obvious? [Chuckles] It is the most difficult! If you begin the search it is very difficult. That’s why I want to stop you before you start searching. [Chuckles] Once you get on the search you have already put on the mask that ‘I am something.’

Key Teachings

  • What we are pointing to is beyond Being and not-Being - even more obvious than just Being itself
  • The 'I' in 'I am' cannot be found through the mind; the search itself already assumes the mask of 'I am something'
  • Being is the primal vibration/substratum, but what we usually call Being is actually the fragrance of existence called Presence
