What Are You Taking Yourself to Be Now?' Is the Fundamental Question
True seeking requires wanting Truth more than mind's desires, and simply noticing distractions without self-judgment is sufficient - self-criticism only amplifies the ego.
What Is The Boundary Between ‘I’ And ‘Awareness’ What tells you that ‘It is you that is aware of perception’? This is what I mean when I ask ‘What is the basis for this claim’? That it is you that is aware of perception, perceiving. You are aware of your sight, your hearing. Like she said (what I used to call) inner perception of - imagination, memory, thought, pain, pleasure. tiow do you know that it is you that is aware of them? And it seems at this point the mind can become really loud, can play as if it is confused and sometimes it even seems like our life seems to become very loud. [Smiles] [Meditative Silence] So, with great gratitude to this moment of grace which allows us one moment to ask this question… ‘How do I know that it is ‘I’ that is aware or it is ‘I’ that I am aware?’ [Meditative Silence] It is un-deniable that ‘There is an awareness of all perception’. It is un-deniable, that much is un- deniable, that ‘There is an awareness of all perception’. Now… what is the separation between this ‘Awareness’ and ‘I’? What is the distance between this ‘Awareness’ and ‘I’? What is the boundary between this ‘I’ and this ‘Awareness’? And who is there that is checking on this? And if this one doesn’t have a story, then who does? Whose story is that? Or my story or my life story? [Silence] Who is there even to claim this discovery now or this recognition? Who can make this recognition a part of their story? Who is that one?
Key Teachings
- You must want Truth, your Divinity, more than the mind's propositions and attachments - full commitment is required, not half-measures
- Noticing your tendencies and distractions is enough - don't judge yourself or make it personal, as self-criticism only amplifies the ego
- The meeting with the Master (your true Being) cannot happen while holding duality, desire, or attachments in one hand
