This Truth Is the Simplest to Find, Simpler Than Finding. It Is You
Truth requires no search - it is the simplest discovery because it is already you, the ever-present I Am that needs no finding.
For now, that is me.
‘For now’ - that is good enough. [Laughs] ‘That is you’, this… if you have lost the ability to intellectualize, you will still perceive that this is how it is (not perceive actually, it is beyond perceptions) you will still be able to confirm that you are looking at this hand. [Raises one hand] If you didn’t have to add up anything, didn’t had to make any sort of computation, it’s just very straightforward. In fact it is absurd if you were to say, ‘No, it is not you that is Aware of this perception’. Off course if you are an advanced spiritual seeker you will say ‘Who is this?’ … stay with me, I am getting there. It is you that is aware of this perception, which is a very, very simple seeing. Now, this you, that is Aware of perception, what is the evidence you have, that it is you?
My own awareness about myself.
Your own awareness about yourself. And your awareness about your Self, is it separate from your Self? Is there like a you which is the owner of this awareness? It is the Awareness itself, that’s why Bhagavan [Sri Ramana Maharshi] said ‘Awareness is another name of for You. You are this Awareness.’
If you look for evidence for that being me, you are still referring to perception again, right?
Yes, so is there any perceptual evidence that it is you?
No.
And yet it is undeniable.
That does not mean that it is undeniable, there is no evidence that it is deniable.
For the mind it is imminently deniable. But can you really deny it? [Laughs]
No.
Mind will say ‘I didn’t find anything, what are you talking about? There is no such you.’ But even this perception of the mind, you are aware of. Because we got addicted to using the mind as the representative of Truth, when this simple Truth is just being recognized, it can seem like ‘But that’s nothing. It’s nothing.’ Are you not aware of this perception, of this sound, of this hearing? So, how do you know that it is you that is aware of it? You don’t need to have a way, no? You don’t need to have a technique, or a tactic or some evidence, it just is that way. That is Self-Knowledge. You will never find any other type of Self-Knowledge. [Laughs] This is the only Self-Knowledge you will get. You don’t even get it, you just see that his is it. [Laughs] How do you know that, that which is Aware of perception is you? If you are referring to knowledge which is mental, you can say ‘I don’t know.’ But it is also undeniable that it is I. So, we can say it can never be known but it is always known. And because it is so empty of all qualities, attributes (all of this) it really becomes impossible to represent it in words. But it is completely universal. You could be in your first Satsang, you can even have been dragged in by a relative or somebody who said ‘Come, come you have to come’ and you could be like ‘I am not interested, I have life, [Laughter] leave me alone’ And you just hear this and say ‘Yeah, it’s so simple’. This Awareness which I have no phenomenal way of confirming is just so clearly - I, my Reality, the Self.
Key Teachings
- The truth you're seeking is already present and simplest to find, not something to achieve but to recognize
- The truth is not separate from you - it IS you, already here, now
- Seeking itself can become a distraction from the simple presence of what you already are
