The Self (I Am)

That Which you are Discovering Is Taking Care Of All Its Creation

Spiritual discovery is not a problem to solve but an immediate letting go into That which already governs all creation.

Ananta

Remember that if you are trying to solve this problem, you are doing it wrong [chuckles]. If spirituality has become a problem, or self recognition or self discovery has become a problem that you are trying to resolve, you’re doing it wrong. It is more immediate, it is more direct, it is more instant than that, you see. I say this another way also, where I say that if you’re seeking, be sure you are seeking in the wrong place [chuckles]. Where will you go seeking? That which is unseeable, unspeakable—where will you go looking for it? The realm of seeking is a different playground, as I call it. The realm in which seeking can happen is: you’re trying to understand, ‘What is he saying, what is he saying, how does this make sense…but in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad chapter 7, verse 53, he said, Yagnavalkya said, this is reality, but in Bhagawad Gita chapter 3, the Lord has said this is the reality.’ You are just trying to fit your framework together and say, ‘This is my reality.’ It is not worth a dime. If you are seeking a utopian existence where one body-mind is full of bliss and joy and everybody you come across you are just blessing them, you are so full of love, but it is still about the ‘me-me-me’, then you are seeking in the wrong place and you are seeking the wrong outcomes. That which you are discovering is taking care of all of its creation, and if you surrender to That even when you consider yourself to be an object in that creation.—some start with surrender, some start with inquiry, but either way you come to the same simple reality, the same simple letting go, the same simple openness.

Key Teachings

  • Spiritual self-discovery is not a problem to solve—it is more immediate, direct, and instant than intellectual effort
  • Seeking through mental frameworks, comparing scriptures, or building conceptual understanding is seeking in the wrong place
  • True discovery comes through surrender to That which is already taking care of all its creation, not through seeking utopian experiences for the 'me'
