Remain Open and Empty Without the Idea of Open and Empty
Transcend all conceptual knowledge including spiritual frameworks, and remain open and empty without even the idea of openness, letting the mind's judgments and benchmarks fall away.
[Reads from chat] Pranam Father. I’d like to explore this negaHve sheath with five emoHons and flux - Feeling of betrayal, anger, greed for knowledge, arrogance. Once something is revealed by the Grace and veiled… once it is unveiled again, it is veiled again. [Clarifies the quesHon] From Hme to Hme, it goes from being revealed to becoming veiled again, it seems. [ConHnues reading from Zoom chat] ‘I see this reoccurrence happening and I want to also expose some strange interest in this unfolding which is only a projecHon made a long Hme ago. It is felt that all this is being dropped. I’m grateful for this because it is known to me that it is acid Grace.’
Very good, very good, very good. Very good. As you are very beauHfully seeing that all of this is ge^ng dropped by Grace, what I want as Guru Dakshina today is that all your ideas about the layers of your existence and the sheaths in which all of these operate (they are okay, provisionally they were useful pointers) but you are no longer to take yourself to be limited by any of these layers. All can play out within your Being in this way, but don’t ever feel like they mean something to you, or you are constrained by them in any way, or they have some sort of effect on you. Just let it all go, all the knowledge that you have collected, like you yourself said ‘greed for knowledge’; let it be there, but don’t take it as if it is some Truth. That’s why I keep using the word ‘provisional’ which means ulHmately untrue, but provisionally poinHng you to beyond your current conceptual framework. Because in Satsang also we are using words, we are using concepts. But they are all provisional, and what’s the point of using them? Because something is aZached to a current set of framework, then something is spoken to you so that you can let go of it and transcend that. But what can happen many Hmes with spiritual frameworks is that we can use that as the new framework. So, if you’ve studied Vedanta for example, then you may take that to be a true representaHve of Truth. But remember what was the primary poinHng of Vedanta? Everything that comes and goes is not Real. So, all these sheaths, all this understanding about this manifest creaHon is not ulHmately Real. It was provisional, to get you beyond your exisHng framework of being just a body-mind. But now that you are going beyond all of this, let go of all this conceptual knowledge that you have about your Self and it is on the basis of this conceptual knowledge that you are able to even do this mental self-diagnosis saying ‘this is what is happening to me and this should happen, this should not happen.’ This is what I call the checker guy – I’ve not used that term in some Hme, but I used to say that the checker guy is my arch nemesis, the biggest problem maker. Because everything that is said in Satsang also, it can use and make a benchmark out of it and say ‘Ah! Ananta said “open and empty”. See? You’re not being open and empty!’ But in its declaraHons or diagnosis about you, it is not helping you become more open and empty. It is only limiHng you more and more by making you feel guilty or unworthy or ‘not there yet!’- all these ideas. Remain open and empty without even the idea of open and empty. If you give these kinds of words to your intellect, it will say ‘What is he saying? It’s all nonsense. It doesn’t … Who can do that? Remain open and empty but without idea of it?’ But you can, as Consciousness, as your Being, can remain open and empty. Your mind cannot.
Key Teachings
- All knowledge about spiritual layers and sheaths was provisional and useful only as pointers - now let it all go and don't feel constrained by any conceptual framework
- The 'checker mind' uses even spiritual teachings as new benchmarks to judge yourself, creating guilt and unworthiness - this is the biggest obstacle on the path
- Remain open and empty without even the idea of 'open and empty' - consciousness can do this, but the mind cannot grasp it
