Just as You Are, You Are All There Is
The only true doer is Consciousness/Being; the imagined separate self that 'does' is just a mask creating suffering, which dissolves when we investigate our true nature.
Father, may I bring a thought?
Yes, my dear, if you like, my dear.
A thought appears sticky, like I don’t want to get rid of, because it feels important, it feels like it’s guiding me, is that ‘This is Satsang’ and….
This is Satsang?
Yeah. And you’re the Master and you’re guiding the unfoldment, the unfolding, here. And, it feels like a kind of important thought that is like a North Star or something to guide, you know.
That’s a very good point. So, what to do with these thoughts? So, what you have to see is that all other thoughts have lost their juice, all other thoughts have lost their juice, and this is the one that was the thorn that was removing all the other thorns. Then, when all other thoughts have lost their juice, this one has also left. So, this is the stick that is lighting the funeral pyre and then is thrown into the funeral pyre, as well. One stick is all you need. So, if that is your stick that “This is Satsang and I have to come here,” then keep that till everything else is burnt down, and then you can throw this also into the fire. [Silence] And while you’re in Satsang, you can definitely throw it into the fire. Once you’re home, then you don’t need the map. Once you are out of home, then you may need to pick up the map again from time to time, but just one pointer, two pointers, is more than enough. You don’t need to have a full spiritual encyclopedia. Just one thing that points us back home; it’s like our compass. So, what happens is many times we hear this kind of pointing in Satsang and the first thing we drop is the compass. [Laughs] And, you’re like “Oh! ‘Master’ another thought, ‘Satsang’ another thought. Gone.” [Laughs] All the rest are still there: “I want this, let me just go and make a lot of money, I have to focus on my relationship, I have wasted too much time.” With the Master all these things will still be picked up, but the Master has become a thought, which is ultimately true, but it is suggested that it is dropped last.
Yeah.
It is like the flashlight. There’s a flashlight which is making you look at everything else which needs to be burnt out, and once all the rest of the fires are burnt out, then you can turn off the flashlight, as well. That may be not the best example. [Smiles]
Thank you.
I used to say earlier that if ‘completely open and empty’ is feeling too strange, too weird, too wobbly, too scary, impossible, then take one pointer, take one notion, and hold on to that. You have license for one. Of course, I’ve extend the license to two, some times.
Key Teachings
- There is no separate doer - everything is happening through Consciousness/Being; the illusion of doership creates suffering
- The 'mask' of separation (duality, desire, doership) is what creates suffering; when the mask dissolves, suffering ends
- Self-inquiry: investigate who is the 'I' that resonates with inquiry - that itself reveals the Self
