In-explainable And Yet Apparent
The Self is inexpressible and unperceivable yet always apparent - the pristine source of all intelligence, hidden in plain sight as our own I Am.
The first question was ‘Who is Aware of my Existence?’ Answer is?
It cannot be a verbal… can’t say anything.
And, ‘Who is Aware of This Awareness’?
Inexpressible.
But while it is inexpressible, is it lost? In the sense, is it just a confusion or just like a nothing, like that?
Cannot be explained.
But like in most things, we say in the world that if I can’t explain it, I don’t know it. Like if, somebody comes and says to me, ‘What is the meaning of this repo-rate?’ (He answers) ‘I can’t explain it so I don’t know it.’ But in the…in this inquiry when we are asking, ‘Who is aware of my Existence or who is aware of this Awareness’, it’s in-explainable, but can it be ‘knowable’ without being explainable? Is it a statement of being lost or is it a statement of being found? That it is apparent and yet it is not describable, just like it’s many facets like love. Like that in-explainable or (shrugs his shoulders in an ‘I don’t know’ way) ‘All confused, all confused, I don’t know what this is.’
Apparent.
Apparent. So in-explainable and yet apparent. This is what, in a way, we are going for. In- explainable, it will continue to be in-explainable, because everything that you can explain about it I’m going to shoot it down anyways [Chuckles] except in these negative terms. ‘It is not explainable’ is an explanation, which we may say, ‘Okay, fine’. So this great in-explainable and yet completely apparent, this great un-perceivable and yet apparent, that can be even more confusing, how can something which is un-perceivable be apparent? But this is the nature of our Self. And that is why we say that the mind and the intellect is completely lost there. It can come along some extent… like love, I can’t talk about it but it can be tasted. Now you say, it can’t even be tasted in that way, it is not perceivable. Non- phenomenal in all ways and yet apparent, always apparent. That is why it is said, ‘It is hidden in plain sight’; ‘It is like the diamond in our pocket, always there, but we have been looking for some other quality to it.’ So this Self Knowledge, Atma Gyan, is that non-conceptualizable, non-perceivable, which is the only ‘thing’ like that - your Self. [Silence] That’s why we have been calling it the pristine discovery.
Father, by the word ‘pristine’ you mean, not associated with anything, by itself? I am not certain what I mean [Chuckles], it is pristine because it cannot be clouded. It cannot be clouded, it cannot be hurt, it cannot come and go. It just Is. That is why the term Is-ness is so beautiful. It is just the Is-ness of It [Silence]. It is our own Pristine Self. We are none other than this. [Pause] To the mind this can sound like, ‘But this sounds like nothing’, but it is the source of all intelligence. From it arises this universe which has all it’s millions and billions of facets, all of this play of life, so intricate, so beautiful comes in the light of this in-explainable, un-perceivable One. Mind will come and say, ‘That is nothing but a dumb nothingness.’ But it is beyond the Supreme Intelligence. In it’s heart, and again we are using the term poetically, is born this Consciousness, which is the light of this Universe. [Silence] In it’s light all comes and goes, all can be perceived and un-perceived, but It is that light beyond light and darkness. [Pause] And we keep saying It, but It is You. It is your Self. It is I.
