Have I Really Discovered Myself - Let go of Your Spiritual Report Card

You are already the Self - the only thing creating confusion is the spiritual report card measuring progress, so drop expectations and conclusions about getting it or losing it.

Seeker

Again and again I see my mind coming and this question arises, ‘Have I really discovered myself or is this an illusion created by my mind.?’

Ananta

What would be clear proof which will convince you that you have discovered yourself? [Silence] And just to help you with that question, would it mean that the mind would never come up again? that you would never see this mind again?

Seeker

Seeing and getting involved are two different aspects.

Ananta

Yes. So if you get involved with your mind also, then to conclude that ‘I must not have got it’ and that is why I am getting involved with the mind, is that also not an involvement with the mind? [Silence]

Seeker

Yes, it is.

Ananta

You are aware now, isn't it, in spite of all the sound around you and distraction? Even all of this you are aware of, is there any confusion about that you are aware?

Seeker

No.

Ananta

If there is no confusion about that you are aware, is there something that you are looking for from this discovery that you are Aware? because this discovery is very simple. So if you let go of any expectation you may have, or something should change for Puja because this discovery happened, some halo has to come, or only good feelings must come, no bad time should come, like Guruji [Mooji Baba] said, only candy flavored moments should happen. you see? If you drop these expectations, you can never be confused. It's only because we have an idea of what freedom must mean and we are chasing this idea, but if there is chasing involved then the whole notion is fraudulent, isn’t it? You are already the Self, what is there to find or chase or discover? You are already clear about this, everybody is. But because it is burdened by an expectation which is not original to you, which is not natural to you that if I was free then this would not happen, that keeps pulling us back as spiritual seekers. So you just be interested in the Truth for Truth's sake and don’t expect anything out of it and see that the whole spiritual seeming journey will become a lot lighter, a lot easier, because this is what the mind feeds on. It says, “ See, see, how can you say you got it, look at this’ and you don't have to say ‘you got it’ by the way, there is neither getting or losing in any of this. ‘Got it’ is as false a notion as ‘I lost it’ because to get it would mean that something had to be done to ‘get’ what you already are. Are you getting what I’m saying? [Chuckling]

Seeker

Yes, yes, Father.

Ananta

Mind will attack you of course and say, “ Then what is the point of all of this!”

Seeker

Yes.

Ananta

There is no point, just forget it. [Smiles] Don't try to feed the mind some answer, which is ‘aahh..this was the point’ because it will use that very same point against you.

Seeker

And reaching conclusions is another tendency of mine. Like you told us in Rishikesh, not to reach conclusions until your last breath but what I see is always like, something happens and ‘oh you’ve not discovered’. The mind comes and says, ‘I think you’ve not discovered your Self still.’

Ananta

Yes, I feel that it is these spiritual conclusions about the progress or lack of progress in your spiritual journey which you’re believing much more than the preliminary conclusion which is leading you to these conclusions. Because these you will be able to tell me easily -that I believe that I didn’t get it; I believed I’m not making progress; I’m believing these conclusions. But those conclusions which lead to these conclusions you’ve forgotten, I think. And that just shows you that it is the seeker identity which has become primary in your condition. Empty of this spiritual treadmill of ‘getting it’ and ‘not getting it’ and measuring your progress or lack of it, this spiritual seeker identity cannot survive. There may be some fear around it; the fear may come that if I lose the seeker identity also then I will lose all the great things I’ve discovered in spirituality. I may go back to the older Pooja. Don’t worry about that. I’m not saying that you let go of your spiritual discovery; I’m only saying you let go of your spiritual conclusions, and especially your spiritual report card which is measuring whether you are getting it or not getting it, and how well you are doing and not doing. Your insights will never go, your insights are there with you. Your true insights are always present. I never have to look back at the beautiful moment when I sat on the hot seat in front of Guruji [Sri Mooji] to speak from the Truth because the Truth is always so fresh and here that I don't need to make some report from the past to talk to you about it. In the same way the Truth of your spirituality is always here, fresh and alive and we don't need to hang onto any notion of progress or regress, for that matter. Okay, so tell me now if you were in the Kanpur group that was listening to me, then you remember that I asked you all to click and see that before the sound of the click you are free. So now tell me, right now, are you not here?

Seeker

I am here, I'm fully here.

Ananta

And this is not a special moment, every moment is the same. Therefore our search for some finality is the search for some idea of some finality which has nothing to do with just This. [Silence] It’s so simple and natural. The thing is to remain in this simplicity without going to the complexity of the mind. [Silence] How were you when you were 1-year old? Were you struggling to become free? So what changed between that 1-year old child and over the years what changed? [Silence]We got a lot of identification with false knowledge, with new conditions, which actually just made a prison around us in terms of identity. But this is very beautiful because you… after you taste some salt then the sweet tastes sweeter, no? So after going through this time of conditioning then to come to this child-like innocence and freedom tastes much sweeter.

Seeker

Even dropping mind is a concept?

Ananta

Yes. [Silence] Anything that can be spoken is a concept. The point is what is it pointing to? And if you’re using one or two spiritual concepts, don’t use more than that. If you’re using one spiritual concept then see what it is pointing to instead of hanging on to it as if it is the Truth just conceptually. That which happens apparently when you drop the mind is that not already here without any idea of dropping or picking up?

Seeker

Yes. Yes, it always is.

Ananta

Now, what do you want from this? [Silence]That is what you have to let go off. Whatever answer you have. What you want from this, just let it come and go. Don’t bother with any report card about it.

Seeker

Hmm… Thank you, thank you, thank you Father.

Ananta

Welcome. [Smiles]

Key Teachings

  • You are already aware right now - there is no confusion about that awareness, so there is nothing to find or achieve
  • The spiritual report card of measuring progress (getting it vs. not getting it) keeps the seeker identity alive and creates confusion - let go of these conclusions
  • Expectations of what freedom should look like (only good feelings, changes, halos) are not natural and pull you back - just be interested in Truth for Truth's sake
